Length. It's a common topic of discussion amongst gamers these days.

Games longer than 15 hours that aren't RPGs or strategy titles are few and far between, but every once in a while, a talented studio delivers an epic single-player adventure. There's Rockstar's studios and developers, for instance, who give us GTA and Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire , but there's also Rocksteady Studios.

They're currently working on the hotly anticipated Batman: Arkham City and according to a new Guardian interview with the studio's Sefton Hill, fans are gonna be happy with the length: a campaign of around 25 hours with 15 more coming from side quests! Furthermore, Hill understands the need to keep a player fully engaged for that length of time:

"It takes over 25 hours to complete the main stories in Batman: Arkham City. To keep players engaged for this length of time, not only do the characters and the story need to progress, but the core mechanics of the game they are playing need to change and adapt as well."

It all sounds plenty promising. In other Batman news, the graphic novel has been confirmed ; it'll "bridge the gap" between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City and cost $22.99 when it launches the week before the new game on October 12.

How long was the first one? I didn't even realize the amount of time I put into it just doing challenges and looking for clues. I was way too engrossed to even notice.

Sounds great, just as long as the side quests are interesting.

The graphic novel seems a bit over priced, but I have a lot of hope for this game.

$16 for a graphic novel is not that bad at all. I've paid more than that for others countless times.

You can actually get the comics for free I already have the 1st issue.

First where did you see $16 because the article says $22.99.

Second, where did you get it for free?

I have a program called Comic rack it's a digital comicbook reader that you can download for FREE. It allows you to of course read digital comics, the file extension has to be either cbr or cbz in order for it to be able to read it.

There are a few websites I use to get my digital comics, filestube.com, filecrop.com, ebookee.org, or you can just go to google and type the name of the comic you want followed by the cbr extension.

I sort Of started playing the first one.
It's cool. Makes me feel like Batman…(batman is a ninja)
Graphics are quite nice.
I semi-like the combat. It flows nice, but man, its extremely automated. Does it eventually expect more from you during a fight?

not really. the combat did feel very automated. i hope that is something they improve on.

i'm always skeptical of developer's claims of length. vanquish, gow3, come to mind. i beat gow3 in 2 days, and vanquish in 1. gow3's length was adequate but was nowhere near the 12-15 hrs claimed by the developer.

ofcourse lentgth varies according to the player, but i always go by average playtime on normal difficulty. i won't buy a short game unless it has a compelling multtiplayer.

i consider fallout3 goty edition one of the best purchases i made this gen. that game was packed with a ton of content. so was me2, and castlevannia los. i regard castlevannia los more highly than gow3. i'll take beautiful, open and expansive vistas over small and dark rooms anyday. plus clos length and story blows gow3's away. better value imo, and an underrated game.

i did enjoy batman aa, and it's good to hear it has some length. i look forward to it a lot.

Did Platinum say Vanquish was a long game before it was released? Not ripping, asking a legitimate question. I felt Vanquish was phenomenal but WAY to short. I hope they come out with Vanquish 2 along with a 10 hour campaign.

i could have swore they said there was 8-10 hrs of content there after people were complaining of its lentgth. that was a pr statement put out by sega, not the actual developer. i just remember people complaining about it's length and sega responding with some inflated numbers on playtimes.

i loved the game, but it was way to short. you should not be able to beat a game in 1 dedicated sitting. bring on vanquish2. add some length, and maybe some multiplayer and it's a day1 purchase for me.

C:LoS's story only blows GoW3's away ending-wise. Otherwise, its not that great.

Plus, C:LoS was WAY too long for its own good. If there was ever a game that needed to be shortened, that game was it.

And as far as the vast, expansive vistas go, both games have equal amount of small dark rooms and vast vistas tbh. There's no real difference between the two except for length and a better ending, and only one of those two things was a good aspect of C:LoS.

Wow, that is just impressive! 40 hours is like 4 of today's games in 1. Or 8 Homefronts in 1 🙂 This has always been a D1P for me but this just makes me want it even more.

If it were a Blu-ray, they could have just eased it in.

But seriously I need to get Arkham Asylum before i even think about this.

Can't wait. I LOVE Arkham Asylum. I use to watch Batman The Animated Series when I was younger so that makes me into this series even more. Hope I can play as Catwoman. 😉

Batman AA was so satisfying the first playthrough finding all the clues and solving riddles. It destroyed the replay value of the campaign but it was worth it.

I hope they'll be giving the PS3 version another extra exclusive like they did with the 1st one, when they gave us those added "play as the Joker Challenge Maps"

If they have a exclusive character for the PS3 version then I guess I'll pick it up for the 360 just so it won't go to waste along with couple of other multi-platform games coming out this year.

GuyverLT

What I meant to say was unless there is an exclusive PS3 character like last time I'll get the 360 version just to have something to play on my xbox.

Yeah…money is tight here! I only buy epic games new, and everything else sub 20$! 🙂 I usually play a game for weeks at a time so I definitely get my money's worth. If they are short or have little replay value I avoid them.

Sounds good to me. All they need to do now is give us the game and everything will be just fine.
