Yeah, we know. For a while now, you've been going: "hey, where'd that PlayStation Phone go?"

Initially expected to launch in March or April in North America, Sony Ericsson has revealed that the Xperia Play will hit the U.S. on May 26 and sport a $200 price tag. Unsurprisingly, the cost "is contingent on the buyer purchasing a two-year voice and data plan from carrier Verizon," and will cost you another $30 – $40 per month. If you'd like, you can pre-order this nifty gadget at Verizon's online store .

In even better news, the phone/handheld gaming device will come preloaded with no less than 7 games:

A grand total of 50 titles will be available to download next week for the launch of the phone. As a reminder, the Xperia Play runs the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system and "offers full access to more than 200,000 applications on the Android Market." Featuring a 4-inch multi-touch display, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera for video chat and self-portraits, this is a great option for those seeking a new phone.

From the TV commercials, I was only aware of the Bruce Lee game.. But I didn't know that the phone also came with The Sims 3, Madden 11 and Crash Bandicoot.

Yes, it came out in parts of Europe and Canada first.

I was thinking the same thing when I read this. I saw the phone in the stores 2 weeks ago. It's 450 bucks I think regular or 100 bucks on a three year plan through Rogers. I was going to see if I could upgrade but they told me I have to wait until next february…blah…lol. And I'm sorry, but I don't use my cell phone enough to justify spending almost 500 bucks on one…My phone will never cost more then my PS3…:D

What the hell?! I've already seen it in shelves here in Uruguay!!!! The price tag it's just stupid 1500 dollars…..AMERICAN DOLLARS! Will upload picture in a couple of days when I hit the mall again!

That's an inflated price. I was given to understand that the price without a contract was about $800…so your retailer there is gouging.

@Highlander, I've got it figured out, it's just the MSRP price + 60% custom taxes (for electronics) + ripping you a new one = 1500 U$D

There!

I'd shop around and consider my options. We've had the Xperia Play for a few weeks now in Canada and I recently did the upgrade thing, but I ended up going with the HTC Desire HD.

This is a cool phone no doubt, but it's a bit bulky and the sliding mechanism seemed a bit flimsy to me.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. If you're accustomed to carrying your PSP around anyway and you love phone gaming… it's a no brainer.

Until the Xperia Arc. Im considering waiting for that, or going ahead and getting the Xperia Play. I want to leave AT&T ASAP, so I am inclined to go ahead and get the Xperia Play.

While this phones does have the advantage of exclsuive PS1 games, It doesn't really have anything else (besides the interesting buttons). It's kind of funny when a device is already outdated before it even releases, but that is the case with the Xperia Play.

Beamboom

Why is it outdated? Because of the psp controls? What other phone about the same size is a better gaming model?

Well, the harware isn't as powerful as other phones currently on the market.

Don't know what the contracts where I am will lower it to, currently without a contract it will be around $1099 NZ.

I'll wait and see what they have to offer because that's a little out of my price range.

In Canada it's $99.00 with a 3 year contract through Rogers. It's been advertised for a month now. Still no word on BELL Canada though.

You are wrong as usual, this phone is awesome! iphone is gameboy color compared to Xperia Play.

I think it was good price, i paid $850 gladly here in Norway for it, contract free of course. No one is forcing you to buy anything either.

WHAT!?
you obviously have never even seen a iphone, because the games on there look a sh*t load better then what they do on this piece of outdated crap!
sony have released a ps1 in a ps3 era!

Anonymous Cowherd, you know if you were to cease the stupidly ridiculous exaggeration it would be easier to take your points and discuss them. However since the hardware specification of the Xperia Play is by no means like a PS1 in the PS3 era when compared to the iPhone, I'll just go ahead and call you a liar.

I'm using Boost but if I was still getting gouged for phone time I'd probably get in on that. I can get a decent Android phone for a little cheaper with no contract and my bill just went down to $45 a month for unlimited everything.

The specs on that phone obviously aren't as good as this and its not going to support the Playstation suite or whatever its called, but comparatively speaking its better for me to stick to where I'm at, although my current cheap $50 crap phone does need an upgrade.

Wish I didn't need a car so badly 🙁

Sounds expensive, in the U.k you can get it for free on a £25 or £30 p/m contract over 24 months.

I was interested in this but in the end I decided between this and a Xperia Pro to grab the Pro. With getting a NGP down the track and my current 3000 A slide out keyboard is more useful to me. I will still be able to play some of the psn enabled touch games too.

Ill be getting the Bionicle but this is definitely my second choice. 😀

Still Id probably kill the battery playing games and then get stuck in an emergency situation. 😀
