It still isn't official but hell, it might as well be.

And the details are starting to flow freely. Various sources – who have seen the game in action – have given Kotaku plenty of information: first up is the story, which will be a direct sequel to the plot found in Modern Warfare 2 and it'll be "bigger," too. It's also likely that many recognizable faces will return, including Captain John "Soap" MacTavish and Captain John Price. But the biggest change seems to be the overall size, in that MW3 "will take place on a much larger, epic scale." We'll follow the lead-up to a massive engagement between multiple countries that might be similar to a World War III scenario. The new focus will boast larger maps and destructible environments (hello, Battlefield ) and that's a good thing.

We may be only days away from the official announcement. So, how many copies will this new mega-blockbuster sell?

Holy balls, destructive environments and larger maps? This will be the first COD I buy since COD4

Yeah i kinda agree.

I have thought about getting a new COD for awhile, but I dont like Treyarchs COD games.

Black Ops just seems so…silly.

I love MW though, COD4 was awesome, MW2 was also awesome, so im hoping MW3 will be even more awesome, i might even consider this one.

I hate to admit it, but I don't rule out a purchase either. I guess it all depends on how good Battlefield turns out to be.
This is turning into one hell of a rat race – may the best game win!

Maybe, don't jump that far. Last COD purchased was COD4:MW. Best COD to date, still! This is sounding good but I doubt it will top BF for once. BF3-day one purchase.

Nope, I refuse to buy the same game again. Besides, if there is anyone that is more experienced with destructible environments it's Dice! Battlefield 3 for the win.

I don't remember previous COD games having large scaled maps and destructible environments, but oh well. To each his own. I'm sure BF3 will be great.

Whats wrong with u killa, they revamped the engine , i know treyarch messed up but give IW a chance, they are responding to the competition by making a new engine and by the looks of it this might be a cod thats actually worth more than $5

I'm with you. Until Acti stop churning out yearly installments of the same pap, I will not be buying any more COD crap from Activision.

Nope, I have bought CoD every year and overall Battlefield is a better game. CoD is literary like buying a 60$ piece of DLC.

Making a new engine? I thought I heard them say; "We aren't making a new engine because it wouldn't be cost effective."

Or something like that, so now they are deciding to? I didn't hear anything that they are working on a new engine.

If you have new info please share.

It'll outsell BlOps. Easily. Modern Warfare is what led the charge with CoD, and the subtitle is arguably just as, or even more, popular as the CoD branding. Honestly though, if they manage to make the story as good as the synopsis above sounds, with a longer, stronger campaign, I can imagine the hate turning away from it. You won't catch me dead buying it though.
Peace.

P.S. Hate to admit it, but it almost sounds as though IW is trying to play catch up to the announcements made thus far about Battlefield 3. I know that business is about emulating and outdoing your competition, but I'm not impressed.

There's no way it'll outsell Black Ops, especially "easily".

For one, Modern Warfare's credibility has taken some damage due to the multiple problems/issues many gamers had with it, whether it's the maps, guns, Commando perk, Deathstreaks, etc. Many gamers don't like Modern Warfare 2 because of that, but I'm not one of those people.

Secondly, Black Ops is the highest selling game of this generation. That is a bold statement, especially nowadays. Modern Warfare 3 will have a hard time outselling Black Ops.

Last but not least, Battlefront 3 will be a major competitor. I'm no a big fan of the Battlefield series, personally, but many gamers are and choose it as an alternative to Call of Duty.

Huh? CoD Blops was infinitely worse! Worse graphics, same boring gameplay and much, MUCH worse online connectivity and bugs.

You're insane.

i have to admit though that i liked black ops campaign and multiplayer alot more than mw2. multiplayer on black ops was fun, only ran into a few pricks online.

now, i want psn to get back up so i can play crysis 2 and socom 4 online.

Art o' War,
You must remember that CoD is the go-to game for casuals, regardless of the issues, and the Modern Warfare brand is just as strong, if not more so, than the main series because of the original smash hit. If I remember correctly, everyone was saying that BO would have trouble beating MW2, and look how that turned out. There may be stiffer competition this time, but that's not going to change a thing.

Jawknee,
I've actually been wondering about your username. How would one pronounce it? Jaw-knee (using the anatomical pronunciation), or Jawk-nee?
Peace.

Jawknee

@Lawless, it's Jaw-knee. Like Johnny. 🙂 I stole it from a NOFX song called Jaw, Knee, Music. Good song. You should Youtube it sometime.

@John, yea it's a given some would like Blops more or visa versa, my point is though Blops had just as many, if not more bugs, glitches, patches, the graphics regressed and people still ate it up. His assertion that people are jaded because the bugs in MW2 is just ridiculous. It will still sell ridiculously well and I wouldn't be surprised if it does outsell Blops considering IW has always done better CoD's than Treyarch.

@Jawknee

Please point out where I said Black Ops didn't have any of those issues.

My main point was that gamers had a lot of issues with Modern Warfare 2, and now started disliking the game. That's why Black Ops sold so well, because people bought the game and went in thinking it will be so much better than Modern Warfare 2.

And now, since there are numerous gamers that have been disappointed by a Call of Duty game twice in a row (Modern Warfare 2 then Black Ops), why would they expect greatness from Modern Warfare 3? They're much more likely not anticipating the game or having low to medium expectations for it.

Plot? Oh, you must mean those explosions. So, more epic and larger explosions? Yay!

/sarcasm

Lol on a more serious note, I predict another 20 million sales, at the very least, and if they manage to get the destructibility right, that'll be great but many hardcore gamers will know that COD is slowly but surely not getting any fresher (Black Ops was the most innovative in recent years, due to the Wager Matches, Split-Screen Online, etc.).

Just that interested me. We'll just have to wait and see though cause we usally get the same old "Call of Duty will be bigger better and awesomer" and then you waste your money on the same thing.

As long as the gameplay/style of game doesn't change from the way it was in Modern Warfare 2, I'll be happy. But they're using the same engine again so I don't think I have too much to worry about.

It's Infinity Ward so whoever was left from the original team will direct the newbs in making the game about the same.

Ok, so I'm very excited about that news, bigger maps and destructable environments yes please. I was going off COD multiplayer, but if this is true then hopefully it won't just be a run and gun fest.

It would have been much better if they had actually seen the story to a conclusion in MW2 rather than distracting you and finishing the story on a side story and ignoring the overall direction of the game (If that finish [MW2] were to be the final part of the story then the idea of a direct sequel which follows the war between the US and Russia that had started in MW2 should not be happening).

In short, Infinity ward do not leave us with an open ending that blatantly calls for a sequel, it's just plain lazy.

WorldEndsWithMe
WorldEndsWithMe

I suspect this is a response to the criticism from more thoughful reviewers that the basic enviroments in CoD are way last gen and needs to do something new.

Battlefield has had a handle on destruction physics for a while and BF3 looks to have the better presentation. I think whatever MW3 has will just be a wee bit of engine tweaking that allows a few corners of things to blow off.
