That reboot turned out well, didn't it? But doesn't it make you even more nostalgic for the good ol' arcade days?

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection , coming soon to the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and PC. This is the original trilogy: Mortal Kombat , Mortal Kombat 2 , and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 . It's being developed by Other Ocean in conjunction with NetherRealm Studio, and it'll feature online play, leaderboards, achievements and trophies. Said Ed Boon NetherRealm Creative Director:

"We are very excited to finally have the first three Mortal Kombat games available in one download package for long-time and new fans to play. With the release of our 2011 Mortal Kombat, and its return to 2D game play, players have been asking for these classic titles and we are happy to deliver them."

This "arcade-perfect port" will be available this summer and cost $9.99 on the PSN (or 800 Microsoft Points on Live). On top of which, just so we can get the authentic feel of the arcade, GameStop will offer an exclusive limited run of the new Mortal Kombat Klassic Fight Stick, designed by Performance Designed Products (PDP). This will come bundled with a download code for the Arcade Kollection , so you'll be all set to go. If you're a hardcore fighter fan, you'll pre-order this package, which will hold a price tag of $129.99.

Anybody else remember when a parent who thought all arcades were just bouncy and colorful finally saw MK? Remember that horrified expression? …it was funny.

I remember my mom not sharing my enthusiasm when I showed her how cool Sonya's kiss of death was. I figured, my mom's a girl… Sonya's a girl… She'll LOVE this.

I was wrong. I was forced to play it only at my friends house. :'(

This is a steal! I figured it would be around $30-$40 when I first heard about it a few months ago..

Unlike many..my mom didn't care what I played not even MK. She knew I was responsible enough to handle it.

Ben, if it makes you feel old, how old are you? i think your a little older than i am but i am not sure. i am 29 was just curious.

i have mk2 on ps3 already but i will buy this for sure. i loved ultimate mk3, one of my most played sega games when i was younger. i just played the new mortal kombat last night when a buddy brought it over. i liked it and it made me feel like i was playing these old school ones just with the graphics that i actually want to see. i will for sure pick this up and look forward to umk3 again.

with the new games they have refound the formula that will make this new ones just as great as these old ones.

58 really? I don't think I know anyone gaming older then 58. I'm not trying to make you sound old, we will all get there eventually, if we are lucky.

I remember playing UMK3 in the arcades at a bowling alley after school. Man, so many great memories, unfornately I wasn't keeping up years later so now I'm all rusted out.

When I showed my parents my skill at killing my defeated opponents one day at a bowling alley they were quite entertained.

The many many days my friends and I spent at the arcade solely for MK games will always be some of the best ever.

Hear, hear.

The greatest day out of those 365 during 1993 was when my local arcade unleashed Mortal Kombat II. After all the heads and spines ripped out from the first game, it was great to bring a whole new level of humiliation to your opponent by performing a little Friendship or Babality. 🙂

especially when that was a human opponent on the other stick, to give them a friendship or babality was like an insult by refusing them an honorable death.

Uh…is this the HD collection version or just an "arcade perfect port"?…..If this ISNT the HD collection, its still cool, but I heard they were casting new actors for the hd version….not sure where I read that, but I still hope that stands as of now. And….wasnt UMK3 console only too?

You're right..This was supposed to be in HD with new acting and animation..I heard and read about it in December..

I dont think the HD thing ever made any sense. These older MK games were rendered with 2d sprites. So unless they kept HD captures from over a decade ago, they'd have to totally re-mo-cap it with actors

@Temjin

The HD Kollection uses new actors and already began filming months ago.

Wow, hardcore.

Strange they never asked me to act. I'd make a great Johnny Cage =p

Well, Mr. Dutka, remembering all the time I spent down at the Bowling Alley to play Mortal Kombat doesn't make me feel old.

Not being able to beat my son on any version does.

Anyways, being a 37 year old gamer is all good in my book.

Awe… I was hoping we'd get a disc-based trilogy like Europe is getting. I'll probably get it off the PSN but I wanted another cool MK game to go in-between my Sub-Zero and Scorpion game-ends. I find it kind of weird the MK4 wasn't included, too. Wasn't it the last MK to be found in arcades?

You can always import it since PS3 is region free. I may do that myself since I hate not owning the discs to games.

I never had any arcade where I lived when these were popular so I only ever played them on sega and snes.

$10 sounds great, but that fighting stick sounds outrageously over priced.

I remember my parents not caring whatsoever at the games I played. "Heres some quarters go play, but make them last" They just needed something to keep me from bothering them. Although the fighting games they had at the bowling alley were Killer Instinct and Primal Rage which neither of those are exactly for 7 year olds either.

1990s, that decade was the golden decade of gaming.

MK really shocked us all. I still remember the SF / MK rivalry.

Good to see one of the pioneers of mainstream video game violence is getting some love. Whenever I see journalists flipping out on Fox over violence in video games I smile and thank MK. Not a huge fighter fan because of their lack of replay value IMO but I grew up with these games, they're classics. I loved UMK3 especially for the hidden cheat menus.

Good times!

I remember the olden days of playing my first 2 MK's, Mythologies-Sub Zero on my N64, and MK 3 on my Genesis, & still have both.

Plus, a bunch of other MK's for other systems too: Deadly Alliance(xbox), MK3, MK4, MK Trilogy, MK Myth-Sub Zero(PSX), & another MK Deadly Alliance on my PS2.

Hi:

These are Arcade Ports, right? I don't want anything else but Arcade. Mortal Kombat II is (for Me) the BEST MK ever made. I know, it's on the PSN already but, for some reason, i haven't buy it yet. Now, this is a REASON to buy it.
