Well then…those are some pretty big numbers.

Splash Damage's intriguing new shooter, Brink , launches next week and for those of you looking for variety and diversity in their games, they've provided us with a special stat chart : yeah, over "100 Quadrillion Unique Characters." …so, mathematically speaking, it'd be tough to find two players with the exact same character. Of course, maybe this isn't so unbelievably impressive when you factor in the body and facial customizations along with everything else; you know, ninety trillion different ways to fiddle with your nose, or something. Still, we get the drift and other stats are interesting, too: 45 different ways to die, 26,000 lines of dialogue, 4,500 individual weapon sounds, 4,963 weapon/attachment combinations, etc.

There's no doubt they went all out with this one; let's just hope the final product is worth the wait.

Those are some pretty impressive numbers. I have KZ3 and Crysis 2 but would be open to a 3rd game. Just about to get my plats for Borderlands and Portal 2 just waiting for PSN to come back online. So, I will be ready to go when Brink is released. I have watched a few movies and it looks very good. The customizations sound like a lot of fun. I hope this shooter does very well.

Funny that you mention Borderlands, I get borderlands vibes from this game. If the coop gaming in Brink is equally good then this is an obvious buy.

Well…

The fact that it seems people take to much damage. Having you earn XP for actual round hits usually means "hello clip to take you down".

Plus, it looks like small maps, focusing on close quarter battles. Not my thing since MAG.

I can understand that. Brink is doing it on purpose at least, they want you to focus on your team efforts so nobody is easy to kill. There are NO weapons that kill with one shot in the game, except in the case of headshots.

26,000 lines of dialogue doesn't seem likely, namely because dialogue infers conversation between two people/characters. That number seems more likely to involve in-game shouts and whatnot. But ok. I may well be mistaken.

And Brink looks so interesting, too bad I'll have to pass on it.
Peace.

So many ppl r so quick to pass on this… I mean the game atleast warrants a rent just to see how it is atleast… It looks good but i think i will wait for Ben's review before purchasing it

I agree I shouldn't have spoken so hastily in my post below, it might be something new and revolutionary. Given the track record for recent FPS releases though they are normally lackluster.

I'm not so keen on FPS in general with the exception of KZ and Resistance, but this one is looking to do some ACTUAL new things which is much appreciated.

Ninety trillion way to fiddle with your nose and only 45 ways to die. Hmmm, maybe they should have added more ways to die and if space was needed they could have taken out a couple trillion nose twitches.

I was at Gamestop yesterday replacing my stolen copy of Black Ops and the cashier said "You know the networks down right?" I said "Yeah" He said "Well this is pretty much useless then, you should wait for Brink." I said "Dude I'm not by any means a casual gamer." He rang me up and asked me if I wanted to pre-order DiRT 3 or LA Noire. I had them both preordered when they finalized the release dates. I don't think Gstop should employ casual gamers or pompous a-holes, they make their company look bad.

My point was this guy saw Black Ops and was trying to get me to hop on the casual gamer FPS train, there are like 20 that come out a year, and they aren't anything special. A friend bought Crysis 2 for me because I knew I would hate it, and I was amazed how they thought adding the stress of monitoring an energy gauge during combat would be fun. Kudos to Crysis 2 for a long Campaign, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Not saying Brink cant be good, it's just time to give the oversaturated market of FPS a break, it has been for a while now. Sorry for getting off topic lulz

Yeah I didnt want to hassle him. He already looked frustrated with whatever he had to stop doing to ring me up. I really didn't want to overload him with information and turn it into a 30 minute endeavour. I like some of the people up there, but some of their bulbs burnt out some time ago.

I saw your post up a bit about the innovation in Brink I'll have to check out some vids on it and wait for a pricedrop if it piques my interest. I can't bring myself to pay full price for another FPS this year.

Stats aren't gonna wow me enough to buy this game. Only high review scores and a good first rental will convince me to buy it. I still have a lot of doubts though.

Yeah, looks pretty cool, but I'm saving my money for the top notch AAA titles.

If Brink is still popular 6 months from now, I'll pick it up on sale somewhere. Still got Borderlands, Halo Reach, Killzone 3 and Resistence 2 to keep me happy.

Too many FPS' these days, makes it hard for any to last more than 6 months in terms of popularity and people still playing.
