We've seen a teaser trailer for Need for Speed: The Run and now, developer Black Box has offered to answer a few questions.

New information on the game can be found at the NFS Blog and first and foremost, we get an explanation as to why they chose DICE's Frostbite 2.0 engine (the one powering the very promising Battlefield 3 ). Here's the reply-

"One of our goals with Need for Speed The Run was to set the bar for visuals higher than any previous Need for Speed, and working with DICE’s revolutionary Frostbite 2.0 engine, we’re able to do that. The visual quality in Need for Speed The Run is unmatched among action racing games."

They also address a question concerning the three NFS games on the slate, what we can expect from that sweet Autolog feature, and a small story hint: "you’ll be drawn into an illicit, high-stakes race with no speed limits, no allies, and one goal: making it to New York first." As for something to mull over, they were asked what it means when they say this year's NFS "goes to the next level:"

"This year, we’re pushing the limits of everything you’ve expected from a Need for Speed game, with a gripping storyline, awe-inspiring visuals, and the most intense racing experience you’ll find anywhere."

I wish they would do another Underground, with the arcade style handling and all. No reason they couldnt incorporate it into the Hot Pursuit or something. The tracks were way more awesome back on PS1 and PS2, there wasnt this obsession with realistic looking environments and realistic handling physics. If I want those I'll go drive my car.

Frostbite 2 is going to make anything using it look amazing, I hope to see it in more EA titles in the future. Makes me wonder what the vehicles will be like on Battlefield 3 in comparison. lol

From what i've heard Run is essentially underground, but with a different title and premise.

The last good NFS was Most Wanted and the ones before it were great too. Most Wanted though was classic. After that, everything got stale real fast and Shift 2 didn't impress me at all. Run though sounds great and I will most likely pick this up…hope I don't end up returning it after a week (looking at you Shift 2)

They're using the Frostbite 2.0 engine? Awesome! I think NFS is the only 'core' racing series from which I'm missing an iteration. Well, not really, I don't have Ridge Racer. And The Run actually sounds quite good. I'll have to find out more information about it.

Besides, Black Box have done those NFS games that have had the highest critical scores, so it should wind up being pretty good. Most Wanted, Hot Pursuit 2, Underground, ProStreet. Yeah, this should be good, but I'm still looking forward to Burnout: Crash more.
Peace.

Nice. Any multiplat that uses the Frostbite 2.0 engine is gonna look good. That's guaranteed. And as long as the gameplay is good, this could be a winner.
