It's one of the greatest games of all time, but Naughty Dog isn't happy with that honor.

In speaking to Eurogamer TV , studio designer Jacob Minkoff said that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was a "once in a lifetime experience" and that the game was a "genre-defining product." Of course, now they have to find a way to top that accomplishment with Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and while some teams might be intimidated, Naughty Dog is pulling no punches. In fact, they plan to insure the third installment "outdoes UC2 in every way possible," which is a ridiculously tall order, but we won't question this developer's ability. Best of all, it seems we can expect something very special at E3 this year:

"We'll have a lot of really exciting stuff to show people at E3. I'm not really allowed to say more about where we are but, trust me, we're going to blow you away at E3."

There's almost no doubt that Uncharted 3 will be the class of the show, and yes, we're including all the other great games that will be in attendance. For some reason, Naughty Dog just always seems to be a step ahead…

Meh, I don't doubt that it's on par with 2nd game but I just see this as the typical PR for an upcoming game. It's expected that the next game in a series outdo the previous games.

Make the SP longer and I will be content.

No don't be so negative! If anyone can pull it off it would be naughty dog.

I think the SP length is just right. At a certain point (roughly 8-10 hours) any non-RPG just starts to become tedious. I'd hate to see them artificially extend the narrative for those purposes. There's nothing more bothersome than a story that overreaches just to fill space.

Well yes, I figured it was understood when I mentioned lengthening the game it was in combination with writing a story that would take up that much time.

I too agree that games that often are the longest are not always the greatest.

this is ND we are talking about, they can definitely outstrip UC2 and i think UC2 SP length was just fine.

Normally i'd agree, its the PR department's job to sell the game's image, but when its Naughty Dog I actually believe them.

Nobody believes Molyneaux when he brags about his games because he has been a proven liar over and over again, but Naughty Dog has yet to let me (and most people) down.

Looking Glass

I completely agree NoSmokingBandit. Naughty Dog has a very good reputation and there's no reason to believe Uncharted 3 will do anything but further that reputation.

if UC3 IS better than UC2… well, than we just got possibly THE best game of the generation.

Multiplayer wise it will be a MAJOR improvment.

Singleplayer, All they have to do is give Crash Bandicoot and or Jak a cameo and it will be better then 2 xD.

WorldEndsWithMe
WorldEndsWithMe

What kind of cameo? You can't have human beings running into… whatever the hell Jak is. Maybe they could just have Nathan playing one of the games while Elena walks in to tempt him away from his games.

I can see it now, she stands in front of the TV in lingerie and Drake dodges his head left and right to see his game ūüôā

Ways ND can improve on U2

– More refined use of the PS3 can give us better graphics, smarter AI, and more physics calculations. That's not going to be an easy one, but ND are one of the few that could ever do it.

– Varied gameplay. There was already an article about this one. Keeping a balance of gameplay options while maintaining linear gameplay could
help

– Puzzles that some how reorganize them selves so you're always solving a new one every play through. Not sure how that's done, but if you want a bar setting game it should be an idea at least

– Improved multi player. That's an easy fix.

– A Story that doesn't resemble Indiana Jones or any other typical cheesy Hollywood adventure film. The acting and presentation of U2 was stunning, but at the end of the day the story needed more unexpected twist and an original plot to begin with.

– Maybe a crawl button. That could be useful.

– Some even more crazy action scenes that are still interactive the whole time and less of a cut scene.

– IMO: I know this goes against the PG13 theme, but I would like to see more blood and a deeper explanation to how Drake can kill so many people and not even flinch.

That's all I can think of. I'm sure ND has some other ideas up there sleeves. November can't come fast enough.

Lol! Yep good point Drake does kill a lot of people and just keeps on smiling like he's crazy.

So you want to strip all the adventure-charm out of the game and make it a human drama? No.

SolidFantasy
SolidFantasy

Nah, There can still be a primary adventure theme, but I just want it to be more clever; have a few scenes that explain the history of what's going on. Something that blows the crap out of any other cliche movie. As for the "killing with out a flinch" issue. Yeah, I'm guess I don't want any sort of a drama, but I just wish there was a way to address it. Maybe Drake is an ex-marine and is used to it…? Not sure.

Underdog15
Underdog15

Nah, Drake's no Marine. He's cooler than that. He certainly isn't disciplined or regimental. He never thinks ahead! That's his thing!

And I think that Indiana Jones-esque approach to writing is what makes it so charming and appealing.

Maybe they can implement a backstory about Drake and his crime family ūüėõ

World's idea sounds like a feasible one. In retro spec the story idea was just a personal preference of mine and I do enjoy the reckless damn the torpedoes side of Drake.

Cool! My Socom is still in the package I'm scared to opened it. To many mix reviews some people like Socom 4 some say it's the worse game ever kinda lost thinking about taking it back to Wal-mart. What do you all think is it a keeper?

I would say try it out, even if I get people telling me how bad a game is I will always try it before I pass judgment on said game.

I just started Elite, and in my book SOCOM 4 is one my favorite shooter experiences.

In my opinion, any reviewer who keeps bringing up past versions is not to be trusted as much.

I do find it puzzling though how GT5 can get ripped for being the same thing, but SOCOM 4 changes things up and shredded over it.

Go figure.

Based on what we know it WILL be a more advanced game in every way. The question is whether or not all the plot elements and characters and pacing come together as spectacularly as in U2.

For some reason though, I'm willing to give ND the benefit of the doubt on that.

Qubex
Qubex

World, I think the story should hold out quite well. You are right though, if those plot elements and pace disappoint it doesn't matter how nice it looks… its the whole package that counts…

Similarly, I have no doubts at this stage that ND should blow everyone away… we will see at E3 just how powerful that blow is…

Q!

Yeah, I gotta say with their first 2 outings, they've done quite well with plot, characters, and pacing. They do quite well at integrating quiet funny/witty dialogue in one segment and then intense action in the next. They also blend platforming and gunplay very well.

E3 is gunna be absolutely amazing this year. Skyrim, Uncharted 3, hopefully Versus XIII, probably Twisted Metal, a new Nintendo Console, maybe KH3… My God, this will be a show to remember.

Are you talking about the ending of kh2? Because if you are, then the letter was the begining of kingdom hearts coded. I havent played it so i took the time to read a uncointable page summary of the whole series, not in detail of course. Besides, i could never take kingdom hearts coded seriously simply because it is played on the phone. Seriously whats up with square enix and their stupid mentality of switching between consoles.

Uncharted 3 will need the thing Uncharted 1 & 2 didn't have: blood. It always kinda bothered me how I completely waste an enemy, only to see him with no blood.

Riku994

Underdog15

eh… there's no blood really in Indiana Jones when people got shot either. And let's face it… Uncharted is the modern age much better version of Indiana Jones.

Of course, there's still blood in obvious story moments, still. Like the start/midpoint of Uncharted 2.

but yeah… don't start throwing in blood all over the place. I like the charm of the game as is.

eh, I'm more referring to when Indie is shooting bad guys. Lots of wilheim screams, and jumping/spinning deaths when hit by bullets, but no blood pools on shot baddies.

Obviously there's blood at key story line points like ripping a guys beating heart out.

Bold words, indeed. On one hand it does sound like what PR is supposed to say but A) He's not PR and B) The important part is that Naughty Dog has an awareness of how important Uncharted 3 is. They seem to totally understand that it can't just be a great game; it has to be better than one of the greatest games of all time. I doubt they've ever designed a game with that in mind. November will be epic!

kraygen
kraygen

I have no reason to doubt him as what I've seen of UC3 looks pretty awesome. This does however make me wonder something.

How is it that naughty dog and sucker punch in this one gen so far will be releasing a 3rd and 2nd game in their respective series. In both cases the new iteration appears to be leaps and bounds, not only above previous games in series, but of other games in their respective genres.

Now if these 2 studios can accomplish this, why is it that so many other studios are taking longer to produce less quality experiences?

I'm thinking there needs to be a school for devs. Naughty dog and Sucker Punch should provide the teachers.

I'll believe it when I see it!
I just hope they fix the broken controls!
If I had a penny for every time I went to roll but instead took cover, or vise versa, or tried to do a stealth kill but instead drake stood up and swinger in thin air, I'd be a, well, I think you know the drill by now…………….
