If there's one game many RPG fans won't be able to do without in 2011, it's Mass Effect 3 .

More details continue to arrive and the latest batch involves both story and gameplay information. First and foremost, we learn that ME3 will be "a little more like the first game" and overall, it's more of a "traditional story." As we progress, we'll start to unravel more of Shepard's past and of course, whatever choices you make in the current will have a definite impact on the immediate future. Then there are new enemy types, the fact that gun battles are "quicker and deadlier," character customization will take center-stage, and yes, we will face some pretty bad-ass bosses this time around. Lastly, there's one detail that might really appeal to the hardcore: apparently, BioWare is amping up the difficulty, as they say the Normal difficulty in ME3 will be the same as Veteran in ME2.

ME3 is just one of several RPGs slated for this year, but you can bet BioWare's newest will be at or near the head of the pack in terms of overall quality. Anything less would be a disappointment.

This should be an amazing end to an amazing series. An experience like no other in gaming. I'm going to miss Tali'Zorah on this one….

She is the only one that didn't make it in my playthrough. I wouldn't have sided with Legion if I knew that would happen, but I DO want to know why it's wearing my old armor….

Well ME2 suffered from too accurate A.I.. Not as bad as Infamous, but ME2 was pretty bad on Veteran. I hope they make the game harder by incorporating more strategy, not legendary A.I. Either way, ME3 is my number 1 must have/purchase this year. If anyone hasn't played ME2 or just can't get into it, I don't envy you at all.

Hehe that's right, I had forgotten about the insane accuracy of the enemies in inFamous.

I hope it is made harder by strategy requirement and hopefully also by buffed items etc, I love that kind of micromanagement. More loot, more stuff.

Mass Effect 3 is my most anticipated game of 2011. Can't wait to continue where I left off in the Mass Effect saga.

This November is going to be utterly ridiculous with Uncharted, Skyrim, Battlefield, and Mass Effect 3 coming out weeks apart from each other.

Man, I'm so looking forward to ME3, become quite the Mass Effect junkie this year…hell, I even bought a 360 so I could play ME1. That really made me appreciate the ups and downs of both games, and from what I'm hearing, BioWare is pretty much doing good by me with the finale of this epic. Yeah, November is going to be a biiiiiig month.

Harder is good in this case, cause I will never want it to end. I just hope the story is longer too, for the same reason.
Ahh this is SO going to be the highlight of an otherwise incredible year. The grand finale.

harder in what way?
if that means im going to be replaying the same sh*t 100 times because the checkpoints are 2 hours away from each other im going to be pissed!
one thing i wish games would adopt more often is the quick save.
a few years ago almost every PC game had a quick save, just hit F7 and your game saves and when you die, or come back you can load that.
thats one thing that pisses me off about allot of games, since when does making me do something 12000 times make it hard?
if i can do it once i can do it a million times so let me move on!

i hope they dont change this too much, 2 was almost perfect and you know the saying, if it aint broke dont fix it!
i dont want ME3 to turn into dragon age 2!

I don't understand how people can say da2 is hard… I had a much harder struggle in da:o, da2 on regular difficulty was almost too easy in my opinion. So I must have done something very right without knowing it…!
The biggest challenge for me was the boss at the end of the longest road, the expedition along with the dwarves. That was a tough one.
The end game bosses was so easy I suspected it to be scripted so it was impossible to lose…

Same goes with Mass Effect 2, there were w very few points that were really hard, the rest was a walk in the park imo.

not the difficulty, the changes.
DA2s a great game, albeit buggy, but its not a dragon age game!
i just hope bioware dont change it so much its not recognizable from the sequel.
as the saying goes, if it aint broke dont fix it!

it needs a boost in difficulty imo. i ended up playing on insanity a quarter of the way thru my first playthru. But they should also make it where insanity doesn't make quite a few powers worthless to use. Looking at you 'throw' and in some cases 'pull' and 'slam'

"A little more like the first game."

This is what I want to hear.

" A traditional story" scares me a little though; it would be prefered if the function of the Reapers remain unknown, or better yet: remain beyond our own comprehension.

It probably means there will be a larger overarching story you play through. ME2 had almost no main story as you spent all your time dealing with putting together your team and there were like a few main missions and then the final mission.

Yeah that was the one thing about ME2 I wasn't very fond of. It seemed like all the story had been done in the first game and the second one's story was pick up some people and then go kill geth.

@ World – True, just realised I probably misconcieved that quote.

@ Kraygen – Mass Effect 2 seemed near solely on building relationships, getting close to characters, and going through a stage of possibly losing them all. T'was a game designed to crank up your emotions, and it was done so very well. I have no issue with this, albeit the plot was no where near as mindblowing as ME1 – I guess they're saving the massive shocking [transcending-the-meaning-of-our-very-own-existence] twists for the 3rd installment. They did leave a few clues for Reaper origins in ME2; in the end both games a great build up to Mass Effect 3, combining both aspects and more.

Mixed feelings about their comments. More story, good, gun battles quicker and deadlier, bad. More customization will be awesome, I just hope they don't go all standard shooter on us.

I like using strategy to set up my team, I don't want to just be running and gunning.

Beamboom

They *cant* go all shooter and at the same time be a "little more like the first game", can they? I've not played the first game but as far as I understand it was more like a trad rpg compared to the second…

What they do after this will however be interesting to see.

I know what you mean, but that's what they are claiming, so maybe they mean, character development, leveling, customization, and such will be like the first, but gameplay will go quick and deadly.

Oh man I can't wait for ME3. The more we talk about it the more winded up I get. It's been *years*, if not decades, since I was this excited about a title.

There is one obvious danger here of course: That the expectations get so high it's *impossible* to not feel disappointed. I'm worried that come november I'll be well past that level.

Wait, why are we unraveling Shepard's past? I mean, considering that we basically choose his past on the customization screen, why are they trying to set a certain past in stone for him? Wouldn't that go kinda contradictory to Bioware's design goals for these games (ie, the player creates his character, and nothing is truly set in stone about the character except for what the player wants his character to be)?

I don't know, maybe I'm just overanalyzing this, but either way, I'll be intrigued to see what exactly they're talking about.

Also, I'm really interested to see if they're actually gonna keep the team you formed together for this one. I'll admit that I'd be kinda mad if they split it up again, especially since in the second one you pretty much craft this team, and to lose it all at the beginning of ME3 would be disappointing IMO.

Well, even with all these questions and doubts I have I know this'll be an excellent game. I'm very glad they've gone back to the more traditional story structure, since they lacked a main plot focus in the last one (and because since this is the final game in the trilogy, the main plot is very important and should not lack focus as ME2's did). I'm also glad to hear that they're expanding both the RPG and shooter aspects for this one. It should be a great combination from the sound of things.

Also, I've said it once and I'll say it again, where the hell is Legion?! He needs to answer my question about why he's got my armor. He still has no data available!

-> First and foremost, we learn that ME3 will be "a little more like the first game"

I sure hope so!! In many ways I felt the first game was just a much better overall game than the second. Better story, more character interaction, and most importantly a lot more & deeper RPG elements, all that was dumbed down to almost FPS type levels in the second and that really hurt the game.

Still definitely looking forward to ME3 though, and hopefully they've taken the best parts from the first and the best parts from the second (better graphics, less repetitive side missions etc) this time around…
