If you loved Mass Effect 2 , it's a guarantee that you'll own the third entry in BioWare's award-winning franchise. Right?
Details and information continue to surface, and the latest batch comes courtesy of a Spanish gaming publication and a translation in the NeoGAF forums : as you can see, there are a lot of highlights concerning the story, gameplay, and even the future of the series. I like the new skills for Shepard- rolling and jumping are new, and the "Heavy Melee" class will utilize these new action-oriented capabilities. Then there will be customizable weapons and larger scenarios and environments (provided the translation is accurate), and the possibility of space battles…which some RPG fans may not like.
The Earth locations also offer a fresh change of pace from the standard sci-fi setting (even though we're still very much in the future, of course). We'll visit New York and London, and yeah, we'll take trips to Mars and other moons and planets, too. The introduction of "dynamic damage" also sounds intriguing, as we'll have to nail certain Cerberus enemies in a weak spot to take them down. We'll even be able to remove the limbs of other enemies (ala Dead Space style?) and as far as the future of ME is concerned… BioWare was asked about this, as ME3 is the end of the trilogy, and their response – again, forgive the translation – is as follows:
"With Mass Effect 3 closes the history of Shepard, but the universe that we created is still there, with many possible stories to tell. I see many possibilities in the future from an MMO to a degree of action in first person or even why not a platformer. It all depends on what players we ask in the future."
Well, what will you ask for? These guys know what they're doing, but if an MMO happens, I'm out. What do the hardcore Mass Effect fans really want to see? Perhaps the start of a new trilogy with a new hero and similar gameplay…that might work out nicely.
