We've seen connections between video games and social networking sites before, but Naughty Dog will take that to a whole new level in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception .
It seems the developer will directly implement Facebook and YouTube features in their upcoming masterpiece: at the start menu, players can view a "feed" that shows all their Facebook friends on the PlayStation Network, and we'll know if they've posted videos or updates. Said Christophe Balestra, Naughty Dog co-founder:
"I don't think anyone else has gone to that level to bring Facebook within the game. People usually do it the other way around. We are the first ones who are doing this."
Balestra goes on to say that they want you to interact with your Facebook friends often, much in the same way you'd interact with your PSN friends. "You can talk to them and you can invite them to your party," Balestra said. Players can even post videos of multiplayer matches provided those vids are under 90 seconds. Each multiplayer session is stored on the hard drive of the PS3, and you can go into a video file and direct the scene however you see fit. You can add voice to a character, move the camera around, and share the video so a friend can assist in the editing.
The direct link for uploading videos to YouTube is dynamic and unique, and the best uploaded videos might even end up on "Uncharted TV," which will be playing in the bottom right corner of the menu. …Naughty goes all out, don't they?

That's awesome!! I'm not much into Facebook but that YouTube feature seems mighty good.
Sounds cool. Now all I need is to be able to take screenshots. I was playing some Uncharted 1 today and would have loved to been able to take a screenshot looking out over the sub. I also still can't believe how much better that game looks than many others that are newer. Specially considering that was pretty much a launch title.
If you're talking about implementing the feature itself its been done in Uncharted 2 already…if you're talking about Uncharted 1, then yes, I agree, would be a nice feature to add.
Ya I was playing Uncharted 1. I plan on going through Uncharted 2 again after I finish crushing on Uncharted. I didn't realize they had it in Uncharted 2 so that is something I'll be checking out. Thanks for the info.
Man, I wish Killzone 3 had some kind of replay feature! Got a couple great moments I would have liked to save. I DO save those moments in Uncharted 2 and Im waiting to get a nice vid card for my PC so I can upload and splice for personal viewing pleasures. Damn people slept on the whole "Machinima" feature in there…too many possibilities in there!
Please oh PLEASE Playstation Gods, can we get this feature in inFamous 2!? I would be forever thankful.
I kinda don't understand it.
We forgive you 🙂
lol so silly
Sounds interesting, I am not likely to take advantage of it at all but I think it is a very smart move. I mean think about it, what this REALLY is is a fully implement completely free way for ND to advertise their product using social media and the massive social networks of people.
Very savvy.
I"m glad a developer understands the hilarity that comes from a great online match. Being able to share those moments with other like-minded gamers will certainly add to the fun. No more story telling, just straight up great videos of what really happened.
Somehow something always gets lost in the story telling.
Especially when it always goes "Dude! I was up on top of the train and dude, this dude ran out in front of me like wtf right?"
I made the mistake one time of trying to tell the "There's a guy above you there's a guy above you."… "There's a guy below you there's a guy below you." Uncharted 2 story.
Meh, I have no use for social media other than music promotion.
I really enjoy saying "The Twitter" and "The Facebook" though 🙂
Meh, I have no use for social media.
Sorry Jawk, I'm the same way.
Why sorry? I want to give you a high five. ha!
Lol LV… I am not such a fan either of the manipulations of social media… would rather keep it real and on site 🙂
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
Not sure why this feature is really important, but it doesn't hurt right.
Sweet deal, I love uploading my Just Cause 2 video's to youtube, this sounds like it could be awesome too, might actually have something to post on facebook for once.
thats awesome and all, but personally i dont care about FB or any other social media while im playing games, i only care about awesome experience which i have no doubt, ND will deliver
2 player splitscreen, customization and recording for youtube.since i don't have a HD recorder so yay!
I think this looks very cool indeed. Reminded me of back in "the days" when I was a pc gta gamer. There was an entire subculture around the making of stunt videos made using the gta replay function. Some of those videos were just amazing to watch, really good productions with sountrack, funny comments, had it all. And they were downloaded by far more people than the clique that made them.
If anything like that will emerge on the ps3/uncharted scene then this could gain attention far beyond the playstation sphere and become a nice added promotion for the ps3!

yea……… and im pretty sure theres a reason for that!
These guys just get better and better dont they!
Amazing how ND continues to come up with features for Uncharted that only serve to enhance the game and give more options to people who play it. I personally may never make use of these features, but the way they're implementing them sounds awesome and I'm sure other people are going to appreciate using them.
Well… this is probably the only thing I totally couldn't care less about when it comes to U3. Just make the story, characters, graphics, sound and effects as great as U1 & U2 and I'll be completely happy!!!
