Final Fantasy VI , Final Fantasy III ; call it what you will. Every veteran role-playing fan on earth knows what it is.

Not long after hearing Square-Enix would deliver Final Fantasy V to the PlayStation Store comes the news that Final Fantasy VI is headed to the digital realm, too. As revealed on the publisher's Japanese Twitter page and reported by IGN , Terra's adventure will land on the PSN on April 20. We don't know when or if the game will be released outside of Japan but considering the sheer amount of fan requests, we'd say there's a darn good chance. Many will claim this entry in the legendary franchise is still the best, although you'll easily find a strong FFVII contingent that often clashes with the more old-school FFVI support. If you're old enough to remember and aren't fully aware of the history, you might know this SNES classic as "Final Fantasy III," 'cuz that's the name it released under in the U.S.

Either way, it's a timeless classic and one you should definitely have in your collection, even if it's only a digital file.

Whooooo cares.?! How about they release their AAA ps3/xbox360 games? Was ff13 there last AAA game that was released. I know square released other games, but i wouldn't call them near triple a quality games.

Well since many regard this particular FF game to be the best in the series I'm sure plenty of people will be getting this. I know I will the day it comes to the States.

@marcusfrommo

What a truly pointless comment. But, so is this. 🙂

Depends on the platform, Marcus. Dragon Quest is a pretty big deal. And, just a thought: given this site's more adult crowd, it might not be a good idea to make such remarks about some of the most beloved classics in gaming history and expect to be treated nicely, or be taken seriously. Food for thought, pumpkin!

The old Final Fantasies are the only thing I care about that that bare the name anymore. Really looking forward to IV aswell.

I really hope it comes to the states; this is my favorite FF entry in the series (so far). Heck, I've got the opening score as my ringtone right now.

hmm. Maybe I'll use that for my text message/email alert. Although right now I still have Navi saying "Hey, listen!" each time I get a text.

I've got it in the anthology. A good game, but I don't know how some can claim it's better than 7-10. Better than 12 maybe 🙂 I won't mention XIII, woops I just did.

This is the Final Fantasy that started it all for me. Such a touching and fun story. Music score throughout the game was excellent too.

It's true. Look up the philosophy of Kafka, of which Kefka is named after.

The idea that those we consider "mad" are the only ones who have experienced or have a greater knowledge of something others cannot comprehend.

In Kefka's case…. magic and espers.

Sweet. I loved this game. Excellent story and tremendous artistry into the setting, symbolisms, music, and more.

This is a game that was held back by the tech of the time. There is so much wealth of ingenuity that went into the story and artistry of this.

I hope it comes to NA. It's a must buy for me if it does.

I actually understand exactly why people value this game over FFVII. I don't necessarilly agree, especially now that FFVII has a much fuller story to the whole collection, but I do understand where people are coming from.

I have the anthology, but I haven't gotten to six yet, not that I don't want to. I think it'd be cool if it came to the U.S. Even though I have the anthology if I end up loving it, then I wouldn't mind having it on my psp.

Sweeeeet! Final Fantasy VI is my favorite Final Fantasy game, as well as one of my favorite games of all time.

Is there any chance Square will be including any new "CG cinematics exclusive to the PSN" like they're doing with Final Fantasy V? I really, really hope so.

Great! My favorite Final Fantasy game and one of my favorite games of all time.

I still keep the FFIII SNES cartdrige complete with its box and manual. 😉

Too bad my SNES console failed and it just displays games in black and white, WTF!.

Favorite FF (I-VI)?
Favorite FF (VII-IX)?
Favorite FF (X-XII)?
All time?

Hmm… tough tough tough. For different reasons… I'll need runner ups.

1) VI. Runner up: IV
2) oh man… unfair… Lets say… VII just because of the hours into the series I've put in. Runner up VIII. But I loved IX too.
3) X hands down. Runner up, XI because I really got into it…. I still haven't finished XII (SHAME!)

But in all honesty…. I loved them all… so… so much.

oh yeah, missed the all time one. lol

All time? Tough. I'm going with either VII or VIII though. But I'm a romantic at heart. And Rinoa, Aeris, and Tifa all took a little love from my heart. Not gonna lie.

Heck yeah. I still have my Final Fantasy III cartridge, in near mint condition and working like it was just bought yesterday, but it's a pain to set up the SNES whenever I want to play it. It would be nice to have this on the ol' PS3 for instant retro RPG goodness!!

whats sonys obsession with disney and JRPG games?
how about us who want ps1 classics, and are not 10, and dont like playing nothing but JRPGs?
my god, theres so many f*cking awesome ps1 classics out there, but all they add is freaking a bugs life, and FF?
come on sony, you cant tell me a bugs life was the pinnacle of the ps1!

Underdog15

PS1 was known for top notch RPG's. It was it's bread and butter. Of course you're going to see a lot of jRPG's.

And I'm afraid coming from the guy who thinks "Sheep Raider" is teh best game of awl tahm… doesn't hold a convincing argument here.

Underdog15
Underdog15

P.s. I know you still have a hard time getting it through your head, but these FF titles from VI and lower, are NOT RELEASING AS PS1 CLASSICS!

I mean, you never responded to that post a week back where you tried to mock me for not knowing that FFV was a PS1 classic… when, although it was apart of anthology, on it's own, was not a PS1 classic, and it is not releasing to the PSN as a PS1 classic. So stop comparing that.

If you would actually visit the store, you would see there are FAR FAR more PS1 classics than RPG's and Disney games. And many are amazing. There's a number of Spyro games, a number of tomb raider's, crash's, lots!

So stop your belly-aching.
