It isn't called "Deadly Descents," anymore. Just in case you were wondering.
The new SSX now has an estimated launch window : January 2012. Also, the game will be playable at E3, which is a good thing, because nobody has seen much in the way of gameplay footage just yet. We do know the reboot will feature a revamped physics mechanic that tries to eliminate any boundaries, which will allow the player to perform tricks off just about any part of the environment. And yes, you may have heard something about a parachute; in fact, you will be able to deploy a wingsuit in mid-air, which lets you clear terrain that isn't passable any other way. Last but not least, you may have to be on the lookout for freak avalanches, as "dynamic snow particles" could generate a potentially deadly scenario. We're still not sure why they dropped the "Deadly Descents" part of the title…maybe it was due to some fan backlash.
That backlash will remain, though; at least until we can lay our eyes on some gameplay.

Still interested but I'm curious about the name change. Seemed to match just based of the footage seen..
I want this one to be good. I liked the SSX games back during the last gen.
Coming out in winter season makes sense, although I will do alot of boarding till then and won't even notice the launch date of my new ride that I want to buy, haha.
This new one sounds like it could actually be like the earlier games. It seems as though 'Deadly Descents' was only there to garner attention. Yeah, there are a few new additions, but it still seems to be the same SSX, based on what I've read elsewhere. I'll keep it in mind, but I can't guarantee a purchase.
Peace.
I played the first SSX on PS2, and that was a lot of fun. It had so much crazy courses and air time. Good memories. I hope this one will be as fun. I'm not a big fan of the more realistic snowboarding games, so I hope the physics engine on this one is not too realistic that it takes away the fun I had with the first SSX.
I need….Cool Boarders
That'd be awesome if Sony brought that franchise back. I'll add that to my I-want-Sony-to-bring-this-series-back list along with Drakan, Primal, MediEvil and Jak & Daxter.

I think Universal Studies screwed us out of that one.
Cool Boarders is awesome!
They dropped Deadly Descents because it just sounds stupid and gimmicky. That and self-righteous parents won't buy it for their kids with a name like that.
Dude, I doubt they dropped it for the parents. Most parents will buy their kids any damn game they want nowadays just to shut em up for a while. The self-righteous parents you're talking about are very rare.
Hell, even if this SSX game isn't bad (and its pretty much assured that it won't be bad), I'd rather have parents watching what they buy their kids instead of getting them any game just because they whine and fuss. If a parent doesn't think their kid can handle a game like this, then its up to them to keep their kid from getting it.
Btw, can you come up with a better name for a game called SSX? Deadly Descents at least fit for they have shown so far.
This game's graphics are stellar, but if it doesn't play like SSX then they can count me out as one of the potential buyers. I do NOT want Skate on snow. Hopefully that's not what EA gives us. By the way, whatever happened to EA BIG? It just kinda vanished. I think that this generation is due for a new Sled Storm, too.
I loved EA BIG! I liked all the SSX games so hopefully this one is good. I also wish they would bring back Freekstyle. I thought that was the most fun motocross game I've ever played. I loved doing all the tricks.
Uh, will the brand characters be returning? Zoe, Psyman etc.
