The new BloodRayne will be a downloadable effort for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. And now, Majesco Entertainment has revealed some baseline information .
Rayne is back as the lithe, sexy vampire warrior with an unquenchable thirst for blood. She is recruited by the Brimstone Society for one final mission and she teams up "with a mysterious new friend" on this farewell quest. But instead of the standard 3D format from past titles, developer WayForward is preparing a 2D side-scrolling title, which certainly sounds appealing. Said Majesco CEO Jesse Sutton:
"It's been a long time since Rayne captivated players with her bold mix of brutality and beauty, and fans have been hounding us to release another BloodRayne instalment. We are excited to once again partner with the creative and committed team at WayForward to bring Rayne back. BloodRayne: Betrayal delivers the action-packed experience franchise fans have been waiting for in a digital format that's also accessible for new players unfamiliar with Rayne's over-the-top, stylized gameplay."
We'll get "new characters, gruesome environmental puzzles and a full arsenal of lethal weapons including Rayne's signature arm blades." The new blood-soaked adventure will be available this summer, and we have high hopes; a simple 2D action game might be just what this series needs. The other games had camera and control issues; perhaps all of that will go away with a new format and direction.
