Hey, you know what's cool about L.A. Noire ? …damn near everything.

We're fairly certain Team Bondi's innovative crime thriller will challenge us in a way rarely experienced in the video game world. And we aren't the only ones to believe in the potential evolutionary aspects of the game in question: L.A. Noire is the first video game ever to be honored as an Official Selection at the Tribeca Film Festival . The promising title will be previewed during the Tribeca Talks series on April 25; it's a presentation that examines the game/film crossover. Rockstar boss Sam Houser says he's "thrilled" at the recognition and calls it "another step forward for interactive entertainment." Tribeca Enterpises' Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Gilmore, also seemed impressed:

"What Rockstar and Team Bondi have accomplished with L.A. Noire is nothing less than groundbreaking. It’s an invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming, and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion. We are poised on the edge of a new frontier."

If this isn't at or near the top of your priority list, we recommend you do some research. L.A. Noire could – like last year's Heavy Rain – be an indication of the future; a glimpse into what interactive entertainment will eventually become…

That is awesome, i had to preorder this cuz of amazons 10 smacker credit but I wonder why Heavy Rain didn't get this distinction first.

Perhaps because the team behind Heavy Rain didn't lobby hard to get it? I have to admit, I can't help wondering whether this game is being hyped past it's value.

TheHighlander, what game LA Noire?

Yeah, as world said about HR. But, then again, HR had a some problems that could of prevented such things such as bad acting and iffy writing. L.A. Noir looks a lot more convincing.
On the other hand, HR was nonetheless something brand new and a step forward and therefore should still get it's wins.

These guys sound like they've seen a lot of L.A Noir and perhaps saw a lot more in it.

My own view leans towards HR for groundbreaking scenes such as father and son and the opening. It may go down hill from there, but my god, those scenes were heavy!

Considering how iffy French films are, it's amazing the French company Quantic Dream did as well as it did with HR.

What? French have a far better cinema than Hollywood!

The amount of top french films i've seen have been far from iffy.

i kind of agree with highlander that maybe it is being hyped beyond it's value, but the heavy rain comparisons are interesting. also, playing detective sounds like a nice change iof pace.

By iffy I don't mean bad films, but in my opinion more than your average number of plot holes and unresolved elements.

@Lotusflow3r:
The amount of French films I've seen say otherwise. But to each his own I suppose.

I didn't really feel like the writing was bad in heavy rain, in addition, I believe heavt rain was trying to take a step past cinema as it had the multi-decision multi-branching storyline. Its more of a step towards a three part conversion; gaming, cinema, and reality(with regards to consequences). Now i must admit i don't know too much about LA Noir but I don't think i've heard anything about the depth of consequences as related to the players actions.

However, I will admit this inclusion makes LA Noir all the more appealing. I really want to see what it has to offer, and i'd like to note the differences between it and heavy rain. This isn't to purely criticize but to see both merits and flaws. This new genre is most certainly incredibly fascinating and moving.

L.A. Noire seems to be shaping up to be a great game.
However, Batman Arkham City and Uncharted 3 are already pre-orders for me. I shall wait for reviews of L.A. Noire before buying it.

I wonder why this game seems so big. The facial animations are amazing, but the overall look of the game (environments, etc.) doesn't look as good as it should be, or at the levels of red dead or uncharted 2. Then again, the game hasn't been released yet, so I can't really make a definite judgement. But I do love the 40s vibe and the innovative gameplay that Rockstar promises. Maybe I'll give this one a shot, they don't disappoint.

Nice, I guess this means that the game will be even more cinematic than I'd imagined. And this isn't hype from R*, this is an outside source, whiich only serves to further convince me that this is going to be special.
Peace.

Interesting, but I'm looking for L.A. Noire to be more interactive than a movie.

I'm really curious to see how this game turns out, because some of the videos make it look like mafia 2 but from a the detectives side of things.

Other vids make it look more like a detective film, really looking forward to reading the review to see how it turned out. Honestly as in depth as it is supposed to be and the fact that you start as a beat cop and work your way up the ladder, this game better have at least 40 hours of gameplay. Otherwise that means there's very few ranks to advance or the story is rushed.

There's a good number of games that should have had this distinction before L.A. Noire. Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain to name two. Just because L.A. Noire is starting to break into the uncanny valley with its highly realistic facial animations doesn't mean it automatically jumps to the top of the cinematic interactive experiences list.

Keep in mind, I'm not mad or anything, I'm actually glad that video games are finally being recognized as a valid and unique entertainment medium. I just think they could have figured this out sooner.

It likely broke the barrier because of that tech since there was so much hoopla about the actors really amping up their faces in-studio. It's like a whole new kind of acting. Maybe a bit overdone in this game but people will get the hang of it.

L.A. Noire is a game I'll be looking forward to playing. I have my copy pre-ordered and if it falls under the same category as Heavy Rain, that will be awesome.

sooooooooooooo cant wait to play this!
will be interesting to see how the cases fold out from being briefed, to finding evidence, to interrogating witnesses, to firefights.
its so exciting to finally be able to play a whole new for a change!
nothing in this games been done before, and thats what makes it so exciting!
