Play However You Wish In Deus Ex

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been delayed but that doesn't mean we can't be excited.

As fans of the long-running series well know, this is more about choice than anything else. It's this compelling combination of role-playing elements and action mechanics that has kept us riveted in the past, and the developers of Human Revolution swear they're retaining that valuable core. Here's a great new trailer that highlights the player's freedom of choice in the game:

How you play is entirely up to you, and your actions will have a definite impact on your surroundings. The story should also be quite well-written and intriguing, as the plot and characters have always been a big part of Deus Ex . For those who aren't familiar, we suggest you keep this game on your radar…it could very well end up being a gem.

Looks sorta interesting if a bit…unpolished.

I don't think absolute freedom exists… the story would have to be huge to take into consideration all possible consequences from decisions you have made in the environment… unless of course, your actual choices are "limited" – very limited whereby you can't actually just go anywhere you want to and do anything you want because the environment itself will restrict you and push you into taking specific directions…

We'll see upon release!

Remember this game has a lot of time for the team to polish it so I wouldn't worry too much. The only thing that needs work is smoother 3rd to 1rst person switching other than that this looks like a real treat if not only for the fact that you have some options at your disposal. I'm tired of shooting galleries, cutscene, shooting galleries, cutscene. Looking forward to trying this out.

Also demoed on a ps3 whoo whoo!

I'm with you world, I mean it looked good, but there was plenty of room for improvement,

That is why they delayed the game until august, so apparently they agree too.

I agree, I don't think it looks the best either. Don't know why you two got downvoted for telling the truth.

Kind of like MGS4. Loved how you could approach any situation any way you want. You could go in guns blazing to choose to take everyone out quietly. Only on harder settings like the Boss Extreme setting was stealth really forced.

This game seems pretty cool though I really dislike jumping back and fourth from third person to first person. I would probably pick this up if it was just straight third person. Games that mix both third person and first person always feel disjointed and take me out of the moment. One of the reasons I hates Rainbox Six Las Vegas.

Hopefully it has the option like in MGS4 to stay in third person.

I was thinking the same thing, 3rd person would be best.

I like how MGS lets you switch on the fly when you wanted to aim down the iron sites. It's great to have the option but judging from this video it looks forced like Rainbow Six. Only going into third person when climbing ladders and taking cover.

I feel pretty confident that 1st/3rd is an option.

Pretty sure the devs have said from the beginning that it's primarily in first person, and third for only certain aspects (like cover). 'Tis said, and I would prefer if it was all in third person, but if not, so be it. The game should be good enough without the option, if the devs think it is.
Peace.

Wow. Very impressed with that gameplay. I love games that let you take whatever route you please to get through any situation.

Like Mass Effect 2 or MGS4, this game looks fantastic from a gameplay perspective. Graphics look pretty good, but nothing overly amazing.

This game might just have slipped from buy next year discounted to a day 1 purchase. As for console or PC, will have to wait on multiplayer features and which of my friends will be getting it.

Interesting.

I still have to reserve judgement until completed.

Didn't see anything worrying here.

Got MGS4 vibes from it too!

Judging from this video this game is just a perfect match to my action/adventure game preferences. Love how you are given the opportunity to discover pretty major things without them glowing from miles distance, ten arrows pointing at them from all angels, sirens howling, bathing in spotlights and a blip on the radar like some other games where you're supposed to "explore".

"Play However You Wish" <- the future of gaming. 🙂

Still looking forward to it, but the environments are pretty bland looking. Not to mention the glowing effect on ladders and such.

Agreed, but we are still almost half a year away from release. I expect those glows to be toned down. Someone around them *has* to tell them they are too intense now.

Am hopefully excited for this game. Excited and hoping it is as good as it is looking.

I think this could be a bunch of fun, especially if they don't gimp it by going rpg light. I hope it has all the rpg elements and some gun modding and upgrades as well.

I have high hopes for it, love me some stealth gaming.

Man, when I read that it's been delayed, I thought 'AGAIN!'. Overreacting 'cos, y'know, I don't like delays. Still set for August though so *phew*.

Anyway, it looks quite good. I can deal with the graphical style, it gives it a unique look methinks. Can't wait to give this one a whirl. AFTER R3.
Peace.

I'm a huge fan of the original DX and so far I like what I've seen of DX:HR. I need to hear more about the different bio-mods and how they effect game-play. Also I'm hoping this game will have more expansive levels than what we've seen so far, the levels are much larger than the small and claustrophobic levels in the abomination DX: Invisible War but not as expansive as they were in the original DX. Also I need to hear more about the story and characters in this game, story and characters were a big part of what made the original DX great.

now THIS is how EVERY game should be!
absolutely hate it when games funnel you down a specific path like a flock of sheep!
so cant wait to play this, play it however you want, be it kill everything that moves, sneak past everything that moves, or try sweet talk everything that moves.
as if thats not enough, you can even choose where to go!
now thats how every game should be!
make people use there brain for a change!
ok, that rooms flooded with enemies, so most games force you to go in the front door.
but this lets you use common sense, i dunno, maybe might be a good idea to avoid it?
maybe?
why take out 100 guards and alert everyone to your presence and risking getting killed, when you can completley avoid them and have them never know you were ever there?

Beamboom
Beamboom

What ____ said! 100% agreed. It's not a "sneak" game where you *have* to sneak, it's not a fps where you *have* to kill, it's a game where you make up your own mind, play on your advantages. This is how I want my games too!

best thing about this is that you can finish the WHOLE game without killing a soul!
and everyone reacts to it, for example in the latest video if you take your friends advice and avoid the warehouse and take the roof instead you get extra rep points with him.
allot of games let you play how you want, ME2 for instance.
but allot of them dont really change anything!
this is looking allot like alpha protocol!
nothing better then sneaking around, then noticing someones right in front of you and you start panicking saying dont turn around, dont turn around, dont turn around, oh thank god i made it!
this looks so good in fact, its making me want to go back and find the original 2 never got a chance to play them.

"sneaking around, then noticing someones right in front of you and you start panicking" – lol exactly, I love those moments! And it looks to be well balanced in that you can sneak upon them without them noticing, however do you use the gun they come running from far away causing a havoc – just like it SHOULD be.

Ok, I'm hyped. I'm sold. I'm ready!

i just hope the AI is really good.
one thing i hate about crysis 2 is that you can cloak, be 200KMs away from your enemies, put a silencer on your sniper, hide behind bushes, and snipe someone in the head and everyone instantly knows where you are.
i mean i could understand if i was really close to them, or standing in plain sight, but 200KMs away, and hiding behind bushes?
it just spoils the fun, i want to play stealthfully, but theres no point because no matter what you do enemies see you.

I like the mechanics here and like that you can go at it ala MGS. I love the 1st/3rd person switch off they have. Only negative I can say are the graphics seems a little watered down..They could be a lot better but it's a multiplat so enough said..

To me this is looking amazing. It has tonnes of elements that I love also. Larger sense of freedom, a cyberpunk/transhumanist atmosphere, RPG elements, character development.

Easily my most anticipated game so far this year. I loved the first two games and this one is looking right up my alley.

Jumping from first-person to 3rd-person view is really weird. They should just stick with one camera mode.

Gameplay looks solid and the choices you have in approaching combat/stealthy situations seems extensive, but it could use a lot more polish. Thankfully they've got till August to get it all polished up, but if they don't fix those terrible animations I'm going to be slightly disappointed.
