The knee-jerk reaction to this will probably be, "uuuuhhh… no ." But if you really think about it, given the right director…

Hollywood is often looking to the world of video games for new movie ideas, and the latest huge franchises on the radar are Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed and Ghost Recon games.

According to a new publisher survey , it seems they're looking into some big-screen adaptations. In regards to AC, they ask participants if they're interested in learning more about Ezio, Subject 16 (Desmond Miles' predecessor at Abstergo), or a new assassin. None of this should come as a big surprise; don't forget that Ubisoft's Prince of Persia series entered the world of film last year. The critics didn't like it very much but the movie did very well at the box office, grossing over $335 million. Ghost Recon is a Tom Clancy franchise and that might be enough for success right there. Assassin's Creed offers plenty of fantastic opportunities for decent writers and if done correctly, the project could be great.

What? We're not allowed to be optimistic?

AC sounds interesting but Ghost Recon, now way. I don't know that series just doesn't seem to lend itself to a movie well.

Something like Assassins Creed does sound interesting. It clearly made a great story as a game, I don't see why it wouldn't as a movie. They will probably tie Ezio with a crime family ūüėČ

It's all in the execution. I've seen great movies. Making a great movie based off of the AC mythos seems completely doable. Whether they will or not is another question, but it SHOULD be possible.

As for Tom Clancy, well, that just has 'win' written all over it.

Ac would probably make a better movie than it would a game and as for Ghost Recon, I'd rather they get with Tom Clancy and make some more movies based on his books.

I'm certainly interested in AC movie.
In fact, I can see it being made into a good one.

Yeah, it will include a mafia-like Crime Family in the Renaissance that is forced by their honor code to kill bad people that… oh never mind.

Never mind the fact that Hollyweird can't make a decent game to film adaptation, the reason these won't work is mainly that they will have to force a PG-13 rating. So yeah, lameness.

that is true. seems like more and more movies are being made pg-13 even those with questionable subject matter.

If they made a movie about Ezio and threw out all the lame futuristic wannabe Matrix nonsense, it might actually be good. The worst part about Assassin's Creed is having to look at that dopey main character before you actually get into old Italy.

lol, you know desmond's character design is the same as Ezio's only with different hair and a different outfit?

They even both have the scar.

Dude, that's the main draw of the game for many people: finding out what's going to happen in modern times. Its not a "Matrix-wannabe", its a clever and semi-unique concept that ties history into the scifi setting and is actually pretty cool.

Maybe an AC movie wouldn't be so bad. As long as the stay away from the whole present day thing and/ or avoid too many flashbacks.

Idk. Do you guys think it'd work with an original character? Something like a different chapter of the same book?

What was it called, Assassins Creed Bloodlines? That was about Ezio's father Giovanni and was pretty good. More of that sort of thing would be great.

What's with the hate for the modern day portions of AC? They are ultimately what the series set out to portray (in my eyes at least). I think that it's a crucial part to the story of the franchise, but I'm probably in the minority on this one. The thing that I like about the potential of an AC movie is what we've already seen in the multimedia nature of the series. Almost every entry focusses on either a different character, or a different timeframe in their lives. That alone makes it seem as though it won't be a straight adaption (or attempt at one, thank goodness). Depending on who, or when they choose to focus, it could be a worthy addition to the franchise. But trying to find a director who will actually follow the story? Yeah… Good luck with that. Hollywood still doesn't seem interested in accepting video games.

Oh, and Ghost Recon I don't really care about, but if it has Tom Clancy in the title, it's almost guaranteed to be bestseller.
Peace.

Thank you Lawless for standing up for the excellent modern-day AC storyline. And no, you are not alone in thinking that its what the series' story is hinged around.

Now it's not like all game movies suck, look at Tomb Raider, it's a good movie.

Prince of Persia was actually kinda sorta ok it was definitely one of the better film adaptations we've seen so far. I mean all video-games have the potential to be turned into a good film, but when you don't take source material seriously and turn the project into something completely different (which Hollywood does allot) then that when we get quick cash-in crappy movies.

Well, Hollywood wouldn't even have to make an adaptation of the games for AC. They could make their own story up, as long as it would fit with the rest of the franchise, and it may even end up adding a lot more to the AC universe in general. Of course, finding Hollywood people who don't want to f*ck up the story (a la Uncharted) will be difficult, but its doable.

But if they do make an adaptation for the games, I'd prefer they start with Altair, not Ezio.

Btw, all I ever hear on this site is "Ezio, Ezio, Ezio." He's a great character, but Newsflash: If they made an adaptation of the series they would have to adapt AC1 first, therefore Altair would have to be first as well. No matter what you thought of him as a character, Ben, just simply ignoring him all the time is getting really annoying. Just saying.
