Prey 2 Emerges From The Shadows

Some days, you just see the most surprising press releases.

We knew Bethesda Softworks parent company ZeniMax media snapped up the Prey license a couple years back, but as we never heard anything about a sequel, we figured…well, we never would. So untrue. Today, Bethesda has announced Prey 2 , the long-awaited follow-up to the 2006 shooter; the sequel is scheduled to release in 2012 and – unlike the original – be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Prey never came to the PS3 back when Sony's machine was in its infancy stages. Developer Human Head Studios is back in the saddle for Prey 2 and they're utilizing the "cutting-edge it tech engine from id Software." Said Chris Rhinehart, team boss:

"We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2. Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. We're excited to show gamers the title we have been working on and hope they will be as excited by this title as we are."

If you want to follow the game, make sure to check out the Prey 2 Facebook page . You can also rely on us to bring you timely updates; Prey is one of those games that some loved while others ignored. The first took quite some time to arrive, if we remember correctly, and the expectations were very high.

It's an FPS with a twist, and that's enough to interest us.

I got it. It was pretty good. The draw is that you can move through portals throughout the enviroment, walk on walls and ceilings and the weapons are living creatures (alien). It's old. It was release on 360 in '06 and runs on the Doom 3 engine. Still looks pretty good imo. The opening cool too. But don't expect something of a big specticle like Killzone or Call of Duty.

I forgot. You also play a native american who can go into spirit form to solve puzzles. That was a major gameplay feature as well.

Seems interesting at the least then with the features you said it has. Guess will have to take the wait and see approach

The original was the worst attempt at sexual innuendo I have ever seen. Female anatomy doorways? Really?

To be fair, every game involving squishy aliens has female anatomy something… though it's usually the aliens mouths.

Ah, but nothing says lack of tact like a labia doorway!!

Never heard of it. Honestly, do we need any more FPS? Homefront ftw!

I was going to buy Homefront on launch day, but that 5-10 hour single player campaign that's been reported by various sources, told me to wait until later.

I was too, especially after I saw some gameplay running on 360 that looked like pc graphics and they commented that it looked even better on ps3 and computer.

However then a little while back they said they had to cut a bunch of stuff to get it to fit on dvd, so now we're getting another crushed up piece of a game instead of what was intended.

Yeah the game is being gimped, mostly though it is being compressed into 2 bigger main areas instead of like 4 or 5. If it makes you feel any better 360 fans will have to swap discs all the time to get between those two areas.

A little better, but that still means instead of getting whats was intended, we're getting the 360 ball and chain attached to our leg again.

Prey was a great game back then and really did a good job with the DOOM 3 engine with a twist of supernatural abilities. Also one of the very few games that has an American Indian as the lead character. And it's nice to see it get recognized last year when it won "The Most Inspiring Game of the Decade" award. I still preferred DOOM 3, but Prey was enjoyable as well.

Yeah Rage has been on my radar for some time now. Awesome engine especially for a multiplat game. I really don't think I've played any games by ip software but the game's shaping up to be something special. Money, money, money!
