Naughty Dog doesn't believe in rehashing anything, especially when it comes to villains.
It's time to visit the PlayStation Blog and learn about 3D gameplay in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception , and the all new villain…or should we say, villainess. She – yes, she – is the central antagonist in the upcoming adventure, and her name is Katherine Marlowe. Say hello:
Marlowe is one dark, tough lady: she's "the coldly calculating leader of a secret society whose roots date back over four hundred years to the court of Queen Elizabeth I." On top of which, there's apparently a "long-standing rivalry" with Drake…see, they both think the ring of Sir Francis Drake is rightfully theirs. She's also "far more elusive and dangerous" than anyone Drake and Sully have faced in the past.
Yeah, she looks like a cross between Helen Mirren and Cruela DeVille, but that's okay. Every time we see something new from this game, we get goosebumps.
Related Game(s): Uncharted 3
what amazes me the most about this footage is drake wearing a suit, bond style… kicking arse
He didn't seem to be kicking much of anything to me. lol
oh sh**.
i can wait to see how drake handles her… or how elena handles her.

I cannot wait for this game, I mean the series in general is just amazing. The stories are awesome, character development is excellent and to top it off it includes some darn good voice acting.
Why can't all PS3 games look this good?
Why can't *all* games (regardless of system) look this good?

Yup, everything should be PS3 exclusive and Naughty Dog should teach these bone heads how to work on the PS3.
Dreamy.
PS3 wouldn't have gotten this far without the xbox. They both helped each other without realizing it really…
This game looks great, but the characters don't look fully polished yet. The buildings and surroundings all look great though.
try watching the vids in HD.
hmm, i like how naughty dog made U2 more dramatic then the first one. hopefully this will be the case with this game too. it just seems to make the game more intriguing
It may sound weird but I kind of like how they made Marlowe an older woman. I mean I like how they strayed away from making her some skin tight outfit wearing young woman with giant cleavage, like most games do for female characters. Nothing says evil like an old lady lol.

Like an old BRITISH NOBLElady.

one of the biggest criticism (and only) of the last game was that lazarevic was too single demensional. The more they push the boundaries on how sinister the villain is, the better and darker I think uncharted can be. It looks fantastic, and this villian just from that 2 min spot looks like a character we can all get excited about. (Thank god she isn't the sterotypical female antagonist)
I love it. I LOVE it. That clip was awesome. Graphics are shaping up nicely. This is going to be a tour de force by the ND guys. As if Uncharted 2 wasn't already mind blowing enough…LOL! This just looks plain incredible. I can't wait.
OK, some interesting information – background you might say.
Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh were of course famous explorers from the Elizabethan court. Christopher Marlowe was a member of the court, as a poet and associated with Sir Walter Raleigh. Here comes the interesting bit…
Christopher MARLOWE (as in Katherine Marlowe) was not only a contemporary of Drake, Raleigh and others, but he was reputedly recruited as a spy by none othe than Sir Francis Walsingham, Queen Elizabeth's spymaster…
And then there is this;
"He was amember of the secret society called "The School of Night" which was attended by fellow highly prominent Elizabethans – new beliefs were discussed and it is closely related to the mysterious Rosicrucian movement"
This information is from the following web page…
http://www.elizabethan-era.org.uk/christopher-marlowe.htm
Here's what Wiki has to say about the Rosicrucian Movement….
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosicrucianism
This game is shaping up to be incredible, and full, and I mean FULL of intrigue and secrets and who know what else. Either way, it seems likely that Katherine Marlowe is related to Christopher Marlowe a Poet and spy from the Elizabethan court at the time of Drake and Raleigh. If that's not a good story, I don't know what is.

I can't decide between this and Skyrim.
Off-topic:
Is renting off games I own illegal? I am planning on starting something like gamefly here in the Philippines.
It depends on the laws of your country. I would imagine that it's the same as the laws about DVD/BluRay rental.
So it does not break the terms of service agreement we all have with Sony or the publishers? Getting a business permit for that won't be a problem. I was more concerned about being forced to close down by Sony. haha.
Since, I always buy brand new, what do I do with the online passes, beta codes and redeem codes that I do not use? I think that it might be illegal to sell them.
Well, I could give it away the people who rents the copy first.
Do I also have to enter something like a "shelf-life" contract with retailers, where I do not rent off new games for a week or 2? How does gamefly do it? hahaha

Whoa, hold on, I didn't say it was legal or not, I said it would depend on the local laws of your country. I used the example of DVD/BluRay rental because that is an established rental business model, and as far as I know game rental follows it closely. I'd strongly suggest actually working *with* Sony as a game rental service might encourage game purchasing much like happens here with Gamefly.
Any idea how to proceed?
If I'm not mistaken, Gamehopper has been doing this for years already. They're a legit business, so I don't think it's illegal in the Philippines. I read about the site in PinoyPSX, but I've never personally used Gamehopper.
Are you from the philippines? Is gamehopper based on manila?
Anyway, I will start here In Cebu. We have an anti-jailbreak community that is willing to support the biz. After that, we will go nationwide.
Well "legit business" is kinda open here. I know someone who opened up a store (with permits and everything) specifically to jailbreak ps3s, install cfw on psps and sell pirated games.

Whoa, fellow pinoy!
To answer your question, yes I think its legal. I mean you just answered it yourself. If its perfectly legal here to open a store with the sole intention to JB, sell pirated games, etc. then why shouldn't it be legal to rent legit games? Gamehopper is basically the same.

Each country is different, so brush up on your country's laws. Typically speaking, most major rental organizations have renting permits that allow them to transfer licenses temporarilly to legally use software. I have no clue how those agreements look in terms of how dollars are distributed or how you purchase such rights, but they exist.
I would be careful, just in case your business becomes insanely successful. If you end up making a lot of money, and it wasn't done by the book, gaming publishers, potentially represented by Nintendo, Microsoft, and/or Sony, could take you to civil court and sue for losses, thus getting your profits. If your business remaind small, they likely wouldn't care, but if you made, say millions, they would most certainly go for it if you do not have a rental agreement.
But it wouldn't be so illegal that you'd go to prison for it, I wouldn't think. It would be a civil suit if it did go to court.
I dunno… if it ends up working out really well for you, you might as well make sure you are protected. Just in case your idea hits the jackpot.

Woahhh. Drake got owned by an old chick.
It will be very interesting to find out how you end up defeating her (if you do defeat her). I doubt it will be a punch on battle, though if it did happen drake would get so owned.
Uncharted 3 is gonna be awesome, but it is going to be kinda hard for them top Lazzie. He was just the ultimate bad a$$!!!
There is a 3D trailer on PSN too. It's shaping up nicely. It's already looking better in 3D than Killzone 3 and GT5.
Considering the step up from UC1 to UC3 I am preparing for my mind to be blown away when this game releases. Hopefully by the time this comes out I will have a 3d tv or at least a 3d monitor.
this looks so friggin good. i always try and not look at any new UC 3 footage so it can be completely fresh for me when it is released but it is just too tempting.
Was actually hoping for a female villain. She seems to fit right in. I love that there is a past between the characters, and that Francis drakes ring is brought back into the story!
Can't wait for this game! All time favorite games too play! Oh and the footage looks amazing! Naughty Dog is doing it again!

Looks like 3D is the new "upgrade to HDTV". When HDTVs where out no one had em, now we all do. Soon my friend, soon… you will have 3DTVs.
I reckon you're right you know, i reckon you're absolutely right
Unbelievable…teasing your fans like this. I was just about ready to watch a movie. lol
Remember, Remember the 1st of November, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot.
Nice one.
And to say that Dark Souls will be better than this? Man, it's not easy lol…
Amazing, Naughty Dog don't work at all, instead, what they do every day is do magic.
Well, it's all down to opinion…and we should respect views on two benchmark games.
I'm sure my opinion will say that Dark Souls sucks the soul out of U3 within the 1st ten minutes,…but that's me!

I understand what he's saying, I mean U3 will have better production values than just about everything else for sure, but my favorites are always going to be fantasy rpg.
Kraygen,
What ND do sit just production values. It's the entire package. Comparing games across genre is notoriously difficult be cause we all have our genre bias. But within the genre of game that Uncharted inhabits, there is none to beat Uncharted 2 – yet. It looks like even if someone comes along and beat's uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 will once again grab the lead by the throat and not let go for a long, long time.
I know, I'm just saying that regardless of quality or whatever you use to compare games, some people will like some games more than uncharted because they prefer other genre's more.
True enough. Still, I'd hope that even the most ardent fan of another genre can see the worth of Uncharted 3.
Well, i mostly dislike Uncharted's gameplay. However, i recognise it as one of the biggest benchmarks set by this gen.
It's just not my kinda game. That's it. I find a game like DS to just have much more to it gameplay wise.
They still got it!. Shouldn't be surprised about that though. I'm all giddy again.
Anyone else really get sucked into the interactions? ND has great narrative instinct. I rarely get drawn into cinematics in games the way I do with the Uncharted series.
I hear Lazarevich's voice actor. He's the thug that beat up Drake.
Lol some people thought it was Jason Statham. Well, to each his (her) own….
He certainly looks like Statham, though I thought the voice sounded different.
Shame beat me to it. 🙂
