Sorry Oscar, but it seems nobody cares.

While the 83rd Academy Awards was yet another glamorous and fun-filled night for Hollywood, it appears the majority of gamers just aren't interested in the glitzy award show for the best films of the year. We do have a few ardent movie buffs around here, but they're few and far between, and this is indicative of a rift between gaming and movies. Many just see the Oscars as a time for the obscenely rich to pat each other on the back, but let's not forget one thing- in comparison to movies, gaming is very young…given time, might we see our awards show in much the same light? Might it be just as glitzy and just as respected by those within the industry? While video games have officially gone mainstream, it by no means has the general worldwide appeal of movies; when that occurs, perhaps it'll be time to welcome our own red carpet. And then what will our reaction be…?

Just something to think about. This week, it's all about Dragon Age II and we want to know: who's getting it? And as an additional question – because we're pushing forward with our new video coverage – will you be interested in hearing our commentary on the game? Of course, you can expect our review before the video but we got quite a solid response to our KZ3 video, so…just want to make sure people still like the idea. 😉

i dont have time to not interact with my tv lol. tv is boring to me now, i just dont like most the crap on it and def would not make it through this. besides, maybe had this show been aired before killzone 3 came out more people would have been bored enough to watch it. but good luck otherwise lol.

and as for dragon age 2 well my budget is tapped for a while. no new games for me.

I dont mind watching the obscenely rich pat themselves on the back as long as its entertaining, but this years oscars just sucked on all fronts.

The only thing I think about when I think of Oscars is hotdogs.

I want Dragon Age 2. But I'm not getting it this week. Moreover, I probably won't be getting it this year.

Patience has taught me that I can get 3 games for the price of one if only I wait. Of course there's a few guilty indulgences like KZ3 and GT5.
I've already spotted Assassin's Creed: Bro Hood for $29.99. Vanquish $34.99, Halo Reach (NEW) at Fredmeyer for $29.99 this week. Yes, these games are drawing closer to the coveted $20 point.

Oh, and I am interested in DA2 commentary.

It seems odd about the Oscars – I wonder if these people like movies alot, but just aren't into watching an awards show for the "rich people to pay themselves on the back" – which I suppose I could understand.

Because with the way games are going, they are getting more "movie-like" every year. Example…. When I heard about an Uncharted movie, I said, " I don't need a movie, I just played Uncharted 2…. And if I need a movie, then I'll just play Uncharted 3."

And I for one like both movie awards shows and video game awards shows. I like to know what the people inside the industry think is the best of the best.

Fashion police love me. What I wear every day is definitely fashionable and clean. And the women love it.

Jeez, Logamus aka Deleted User, when the alternative to being clean and fashionable is being dirty and smelly like what I imagine the Villiage People "Macho Man"'d around smelling like, I'm not sure Ben's the queer one.

Not that there's anything wrong with being apart of the LGBT2Q community… but I'm sure you're not quite civilized enough to realize that it's not exactly "kosher" to take out your own confusion and anger over your own disconnected sense of sexuality on someone else just for appreciating the Oscars…

But with help, you can figure out why you do that! Was your father abusive? Or perhaps your mother was emotionally unavailable? Perhaps both?

It can be interesting to know who and what movies won (I'd like to see the King's Speech now) but I can't waste that much time on an awards show. It's a shame the biggest deal we have is Spike's VGAs, but hey its a start.

I'll be getting Dragon Age II asap, I've got blockbuster gift cards plus I'll likely be handling the review over at TitanReviews.

Not crazy about the action oriented system, but I know it's gonna be a great RPG no matter what.

I'm looking forward to the commentary, I like the fact that with the commentary we get to see some gameplay that we probably wouldn't see anywhere else.

How does this make any sense? How many gamers voted? How can you have a clear cut, consensus as to "every gamer dislikes" the Oscars? Wow is this article lame. Here fix the headline:
The PSX COMMUNITY!!!! GIVE Oscar The Cold Shoulder

Must've missed the "PSXE Poll Update" part of the title.

Next time you feel like bashing an article, tamp down the urge. Either that, or go away.

After long deliberation I decided not to get DA2 at this time for two reasons.

First reason are DLCs. Funny thing is DLCs started as an idea of free minor downloadable content to keep the game going and encourage people to buy it rather than pirate it. Unfortunately, today, DLCs likely turn more people to piracy than anything else. Second incarnation of DLCs were the ones we started paying for but they were still reasonable. Minor optional things like skins, mounts, background story etc. And then there are DLCs of today. The ones that cause the game to be chopped down to pieces even before the game is released. The ones that leave plotholes in the game on purpose so they can be filled with DLCs later. The ones when you have to go on Facebook to get them, and you have to complete the demo, and you have to have the demo downloaded million times as a community, and you have to buy some other game, and you pay $15 for an hour of gameplay, and I don't even know what else they will come up with. Of course the game is not even released, but I'm not going to take the risk. If I'm wrong I'll gladly admit it.

Second reason is so called "streamlining". In general it's supposed to be a good thing. But in gaming, especially when it comes to RPGs, it turns out it means cutting RPG features, shortening the game, making it "light" version of the original in the series and making it more action oriented.

So… I think I'll just wait for now.

lol, I had visions of Kratos, Sackboy and Elena strutting down the red carpet, posing for pictures and smiling for the cameras.

Most of the faces we put to the games aren't real, and will never be able to walk a carpet or accept an award. I think its one of the main reasons video game award shows will never be as popular as movie awards shows. I mean, sure, there are famous people in the gaming industry. However, the real stars, the characters in the game, are just pixels and a voice actor(and maybe a couple people in motion capture suits).

Maybe the developers will animate acceptance speeches? That'd be entertaining as all hell I think. Imagine Kratos accepting an Oscar…

I enjoyed the commentary on KZ3, so I'll probably watch it again for DAII. Even so, I've barely started the original game and will definitely want to wait for an Ultimate Edition, or Complete Edition or whatever Bioware is going to call it before picking it up. If that means that I have to wait another year, then so be it.
Peace.

I think the film industry at the moment is far more intense than the gaming industry, Nothing is being released at the moment. While in film we have had 2 solid months of hits, i have been going to the cinema weekly and i have yet to be disapointed by a film.

As for Dragon Age II, meh i have the 1st game and it's just not for me.

Something to liven them up.

Underdog15

You're kidding right? The second year wasn't impressive at all. He had no wit. His jokes were abrupt, and even his usual rude ones didn't flow with the actual presentation.

I'm all for keeping the audience off guard and throwing in jabs, like the one in the first year at Mel Gibson (hilarious!), but it has to flow and gel with the actual presentation still. He did that well in the first year. Second year, he wasn't witty at all. He went solely for shock value. Compare that to the first year when the shock value still actually contributed to the event! It's like he forgot he was supposed to HOST the event. Second year, he treated each moment on stage as just an opportunity to joke… I dunno… you can't sort of FORGET in the process of entertaining, that you are HOSTING the event.

No… second year, he didn't even have a proper outline, and to me, he seemed vastly underprepared in comparison to the first.

Not only that… but I think his weight loss made him less funny, too. lol

Anyways, for me, just keeping people off balance isn't enough. I want the whole package, and he didn't deliver in the second year. His jokes were funny, but they were SO forced. I'm quite certain he won't be hosting the event again, which should be disappointing for him considering they liked him the first year enough to have him back again!
