It's time for the 10th annual National Academy of Video Game Testers and Reviewers Corp. Awards, and a voting body of 640 game media critics, analysts, and journalists have settled upon a total of 250 nominees in 52 separate categories.

You can read up on all the nominations and honorary awards when you check out the press release , but here are the relevant award details: Sony is the leading publisher for nominations – as it has been in past years – with 35 nominations, while EA and Microsoft are tied for second with 21 nominations. These are followed by Nintendo with 18, Sega with 15, Ubisoft with 14, Activision with 12, Square-Enix, Rockstar and 2K Games with 11, and THQ with 10. And the #1 nomination-getter? Quantic Dream's spectacular and progressive Heavy Rain , with a total of 18. As you might expect, it's in the running for Game of the Year, along with Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood , Darksiders , LIMBO , Mass Effect 2 , Red Dead Redemption and Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty .

If you want to look at other leading games, you should note that RDR and God of War III netted 11 nominations, Mass Effect 2 and Brotherhood got 10 apiece, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Bayonetta scored 7, and as a point of interest, Final Fantasy XIII got 5 nominations. All the winners will be announced tomorrow.

Think we're going to disagree with Heavy Rain 's domination in the nomination field? …don't think so.

Wow nothing for GT5. That's sad. At least HR is getting the attention is deserves.

Very sad indeed, and a travesty, to some degree – we need an awards show for niche games as well (as GT5 really is a niche game, in terms of gameplay), as the mass market stuff is nice, but the niche stuff is bloody good as well :).

Heavy Rain certainly deserves all the accolations it gets.

All those games listed, except Darksiders and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, I have in my collection. Red Dead Redemption was very much a fine game, and I'm certainly missing it right now since I traded it in a few months ago. Waiting for a special collection edition of the game with all DLC on the disc like with GTA IV and Borderlands.

I'm so happy to see this change in direction in people's mindsets on what quality means, that sales don't represent quality and that under dogs can achieve well with the mature demographic that it's aimed at i.e. Sony's fan base.

I really don't believe something like this would of fared well on MS' machine. I'm just happy the industry is growing at the same rate as me, in terms of what's being put out matches my age progression quite nicely along with my growing tastes. And I think it's fair to say that no one would of seen this sheer amount of quality on our story shelves transcending to our personal collections. It really has been an AMAZING decade of gaming for all owners of all systems, and I'm glad SONY is in the leadership position for this industry, constantly focusing on quality games, and amazing side entertainment apps to boot, undoubtedly turning the PS3 into the ultimate entertainment machine, a true all in one system.

Congrats Quantic Dream. Heavy Rain deserved it, a most brilliant game. By the way what is the latest on its sales?

it's at 1.5 million copies sold. that number is sure to increase since it was recently added to the greatist hits selection.

Go AC:B! No game gets vertical like that and add the breath-taking graphics and historical element that equals a winner!

I dont know you personally on here, but everyone sees you as a political nut job on here, but I form my own opinions and I'm just putting this in the air, I'm not going to troll you. Just a word of advice these guys on here do know there stuff regardless of debate tactics they may use, just stick to the games and leave politics out of it, politics have no business in a good ol' gaming website like this. I had to learn that the hard way and you come to love this site and respect the people associated with it, its a great group of guys and gals on here, and it's a very unique gathering. Take it easy man, peace 😉

Hey, I don't! We need nut jobs around here. Makes me feel less alone! Go nut jobs!

… And Brotherhood.

Thanks Jmo, honestly I do get heated when talking about games not being innovative by fault of bottom-liners, but I am a gamer first and a debater second. I am enjoying this site, its the first time I've had the nuts to post anything on a board in a really long time so its great to get back in the action! See ya on the battlefield! by the way I am playing Battlefield:BC2 on PSN right now, add me PSNid: NotGoofingAround

Don't worry man, at least you figured out the Reply button haha Im just playing, but hey these guys are pretty receptive and can get on ya about the small things, but it makes you a better and more mature poster for any site you might be on, Im sorry you didn't exactly get the welcoming community, but Im sure you'll earn there respect back, just keep cool 😉 It's by far the most mature site I've been on (no dirty thought intended) haha for really any criteria.
P.S. ill add ya when I get the chance, haven't been able to get on in a while, the mom's BF's son hogs it all the time haha

Being the sci-fi rpg junkie that I am there is no alternative: I cross my fingers for Mass Effect. There was no better game in 2010. However for some reason I do not think they will win… My second favourite on that list is Brotherhood. They'd deserve it too.

And although I still stand behind my less than flattering opinion about Heavy Rain I'd love to see it win cause that can only be a good thing for the general willingness of taking chances in this business. And without those the gaming world would be a much duller place to be.

So… Go Heavy Rain!

Yeah…ME2 and ACB were my favorites games from last year followed by Fallout New Vegas adn GOWIII. Heavy Rain isn't a game in my opinion, but it was very good. I want ME2 too win…that game was damn near perfect in my eyes. Sci-fi nerds unite!lol If all fells, give it to ACB…can't believe no one screams how awesome this game was even though the story kind of dissappointed.

Well, actually this site's very own Ben has screamed that ACB is good several times – and with good reasons. It *is* good. It's a visual feast, the controls are tight and feels natural right from the start, and the story is well worked out. It's simply a good game in every possible way.

… Although Mass Effect is in a league of it's own. That's more than a game, it's an escape. 🙂

HAHA right and I know Ben is an avid fan…little people here don't care too much for AC though.

Mass Effect 2 is as much of an escape as Brotherhood was…meaning that they're both escapes. There's nothing that godly about ME2, despite it being a great game.

Its about time Heavy Rain was respected in awards. PSX seemed to be the only ones who truly honored this game.

It's awesome that Heavy Rain is receiving this kind of praise. It's been overlooked by way too many and maybe this will open the eyes of some people who missed out on it. With it being part of the Greatest Hits line now, there's no reason to not play it.

Also, did I read that right? Darksiders received a GotY nomination, but not God of War III? Don't get my wrong, I loved Darksiders, but this is almost kind of strange. I guess they can't have too many PS3 exclusives in for GotY, though.
