Endurance Races In GT5 Will Soon Be Much More Doable

So how about those endurance races, huh? No B-Spec-ing them like we did in GT4. Well, you can, but you also have to A-Spec them if you wish to truly complete the game.

Wouldn't it be nice if instead of leaving the PlayStation 3 on for an ungodly amount of time, we could just save our progress and turn it off? Wouldn't this come in really handy for some ridiculous venture like 24 hours on Nurburgring? Well, believe it or not, that option is coming: GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed as much on his Twitter page this morning; translation courtesy of GTPlanet :

"I’m sorry. Game saves during endurances. They are currently under development."

This is a hugely requested feature all over the Internet and suddenly makes all those races seem doable. You'll have to take an RPG-like approach to them, depending on how long you plan to race at a stretch, but at least you don't have to constantly worry about power outages, a kicked cord, the dog, or whatever else might tragically end your 24-hour run at the 22.5-hour mark.

Can't wait until this is ready! Might actually be able to finish A-Spec.

well this is good news, so far I have only managed to get 2 endurance races done the first one and the indy 500. And those were only about 3 hours apeice and my ass was killing me after sitting in my homemade wheel setup for that long.

Wow, great news. I remember my buddy & I took turns on the 24hr Nurburgring in GT4. When he went to sleep, he would wake me up to race. Good times. It doesn't really break my heart that I don't get to do that anymore tho. 🙂

In truth though, in a real endurance race, the drivers take turns, no one driver races for 24 hours straight, it would be suicidal to do so.

daus26

To be very technical, one driver has done so. But yes, it's too dangerous and unhealthy to go 24hr straight in a competition that requires you to be really focused, and if not, BIG accident.

Not there just yet but that'll be veeery interesting now 🙂

I'm up to the 9hr Tsukuba event but I haven't found the time to do it since I'm currently doing a lot of KZ3 time. If we can save progress then it'll make it easier to go back to GT5 and not worry about overnight in game pauses.

However, another part of me says that the true 'hardcore' will do the events with no pauses; it is a Simulator after all…I'm not _that_ hardcore I guess. lol

9 hours is fine and doable. I'd be up for that.
The 24 hour ones however is another story. Doable if one has enough drinks to sustain it, or a friend, but realistically it's not doable. So no worries.

Goodness, you could sit there for 9 hours? I had a hard enough time getting through 3 1/2 hours of the 4 hour Endurance Race. Of course with my luck, while I was coming back to the race after replying to a PSN message I accidentally restarted the race when I only had 35 minutes left to go. I was pulling my hair out.

I could pull 24, but it's not healthy sitting that long for me, or for anyone that matter. I've done it before a long time ago. I've even stayed up 4 days straight never went passed that and i felt like complete crap after that.

1 thing I had wondered is if Polyphony would enable a feature on their online component where say, 2-3 friends could get into a lobby and share a vehicle (from any of the 3s garage) and then do the 24 hour event non-stop taking turns driving (just like the real event).

I haven't made it that far, but I doubt I will EVER sit there for 4+ hours playing 1 single race… I just don't have the patience.

This *exactly* what I wanted. No fast-forward crap,

I wanted this very feature where you can just pit and save the race then when you play the game again all you do is continue the race.

It's cool if one has a friend to do the whole 24 hour races (that's how they do it in real life pro racing). But since that's not the case in the game this is truly a great way.

By the way, I can't freaking wait for the FT-86 II, what a beautiful car.

well all i have left in b spec of the endurance races is the formula and the 24 hour events. in a spec i am just now reaching that point, i have a little left before i reach level 25 and should be there by the end of the day. probably within an hour or 2 i should have it opened up. when i go to bed at night i usually run the Tsukuba 9 hr event. its good way to level up and to make money. just auto pit and walk away.

something like this changes this games difficulty all together. i am glad they will do this because i was doubting if i would be able to do them.

DAMNIT! No patch for me. This would be a helpful addition. I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that PD is still supporting and growing this game. It's simply amazing. But they still need their revenue streams, so I'd like to know what the next retail project they're working on is.

Will it be GT6 for a PS4 launch? Tourist Trophy II? A new, open-world racer? Something not involving motor vehicles in such a heavy focus?
Peace.

This is indeed great news. I have completed a few of the endurance races (Grand Valley and Indy) and that was at my limit.

Once this patch is deployed, I have another 70 hours or so of racing to do.

daus26
daus26

What do you mean by limit? The Laguna Seca endurance is shorter than the Indy 500. Have you done that one? If you can do Indy 500, certainly the Laguna Seca is possible for you.

maxpontiac

Yeah, I'll do that one as well, but 4 hours is really pushing it for me.

9 and 24 hours are out of the question.

Like a few others I have only completed a couple Endurance Races. I had no hope of completing the rest until now.

Man, I haven't even touched an endurance race after the 4hr Indy race, Grand Valley Race and Mazda race…they are too long. I spent my whole Saturday playing the Mazda Race on and off only to receive a small amount of XP and money…lmao…yeah, waste of time. Good patch, now I might actually want to complete some of these races. Now bring a patch that can help me lvl up faster. Been stuck at level 30 forever now.

daus26
daus26

New patch? Dude, the 1.06 patch should be enough for you to level up. Most of them are at LEAST tripled in XP amount. The 4 hour Nurburgring is at a ridiculous 2 million XP now. Indy at Dream Car championship is 32k for just 5 mins of racing.

If you want massive XP for the shortest time, attempt the Vettel Challenge and get at least bronze. The bronze times have even been lifted.

FM23
FM23

Didn't know the patch increased the XP because you still don't gain enough points to lvl up faster really at all. If I have to race 4hrs just to get half way to the next level…thats annoying. I have to wait until LVL 40 to play the main event and I don't even care to keep playing any more races with that length. The Indy race doesn't speed up anything as I play that race to make spare money and my XP bar doesn't move dramatically at all. I just want them to make a patch that helps me gain points after level 30 easier. Thats all.

Hey FM23… What's the hurry to rank up?

daus26
daus26

I've been at 98% since December. The 4 24hr endurances is the only thing that stands in my way of getting 100%. I never really attempted it because I had this feeling that Kaz would respond to the 8,000 plus vote requesting this feature. It turns out that he did, and now any of us should be able to complete it now.

My problem now is leaving the ps3 for 24 hrs on my B-spec ones. I won't need them for platinum trophy if I can get the A-spec ones, but I do want to get 100%. I need to get myself a personal ps3.

I like the menus.

maxpontiac

As do I. Plus, the load times aren't that bad. IMO, the only viable gripe you have is the shadows. They aren't pretty, but are from being a deal breaker.

Excelsior1
Excelsior1

@jawknee

fair enough, but i found the menus clunky. what i mean is navigation within the menus is a little on the slow side. go back gt3 or gt4. one button press, and boom you're there. why can't gt5's menus be as quick? it's hardly a game breaker, though.

one question i've never heard answered is what's up with the 8 bit shadows? can they fix them?

i still think it's good game that was a day1p for me. it was a great value for $60 with its wealth of content.. please don't hate me guys if don't like the shadows or load times.

Not hating over your opinion. I am just questioning your reason. Plus, you could see a noticeable difference in the speed of the menus as well as a slight shadowing improvement.

As much as I dislike some of the shadows, I would rather see the game improve in other locations. Worry about the cosmetic improvements later.

i sense ylods from this game. Better be leaving your system in a open enviroment so more airflow and less dust build up. Anywyas that is quite the feature, it would take a lot of stress of many gt5 racers!!!

I thought this feature was already included, it's not like it's the first iteration to have endurance races and without a save it's ridiculous. It's like that last mark in FF12, it only took 2 or 3 hours and they implemented a mid-battle save just for that one instance.

I left off at lv 24 but my GT5 has been collecting dust the last few months since it freezes every time I tried to install since upgrading my hd (and no I'm not impatient, I left it on for hours).
I have yet to try it again after deleting my game data but that's cuz I don't want to download the gig or so of updates for the 4rth or so time.
Oddly enough when I disable the internet to try and work around the updates it stopped even giving me the option to install, wtf is that?

yeah, did they really think everyone will play 24 hours straight? i mean, not everyone is a hardcore gt5 fan so why isnt this feature there at launch. granted you dont unlock endurance races till you progress alot but still, playing a race that long is just not practical. besides, i dont really want to leave my ps3 on while i take a break from a race.

As my granny would say as she was lacing up her combat boots…."Sounds like a few of of you young-un's just don't have the stamina". LOL

Hell, at a ripe 58 now, I did a a number of GTA-4 marathons just about 4 months ago, and the longest lasted about 32-33 hours.
And I would've played it even longer but by the last hour, I was seeing these 3 Niko triplets racing all town with the same identical makes, models, and colored cars.
So I definitely knew it was time for a serious nappy-time tune-up for me.

And at 58 now, I finally got my virin feet wet & jumped into Killzone-3's MP yesterday, & I wound up playing for slightly over 18 hours, from around 5 PM till after 11 AM this morning, ranking up to Captain III, with over 165,000+ EP.
I only put my controller down for a few quickie combination snacking fuel pit stops/bathroom breaks.
And if I wasn't called away to take care of some important club biz, I would have still been playing till who knows when.

The only downside of my marathon playing is that my old 60GB PS3(now a 640GB)fan has started shifting into hi-speed mode soon after being into the game, and it usually stays there until each match has ended & the stats pop up. And it's not just KZ, it actually does it with every game now since I did that last GTA-4 marathon.
