Okay, so Crysis 2 is less than a month away. But the developers are already starting to think about the next installment…provided March's release turns out well for everyone.

When asked about the possibility of a trilogy for the popular shooter, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli sort of confirmed a third Crysis . It isn't exactly surprising, but it's interesting to hear that the team already has the story all mapped out:

"We definitely want to make Crysis 3. I'm not making a formal announcement. We'd like to make Crysis 3 but the second game needs to be successful first. I will mention that there is a plan for how the fiction of Crysis should roll out, but again, it depends on the success of Crysis 2."

However, he also said that if Crysis 2 doesn't hit the team's goals and doesn't manage to break even, the series may stop. Of course, we're all quite familiar with Crytek's building of hype over the past few months, but it's probably just beause they really want to make a third Crysis .

If you're looking for Crytek to produce TimeSplitters 4 , you might be out of luck. Yerli did say his team wants to expand beyond the FPS genre.

"We have a bigger ability now to expand with more games. As a company we can't just make shooters, we need to breed genuinely new forms of entertainment and interactive experiences… The genre may not even exist yet for that matter, so what we're keen on is games that offer new experiences for every moment the gamer plays."

That last statement is very interesting coming from a studio that has only made shooters. Have they been simply honing their skills by making a shooter so they don't face technological difficulties when they're ready to unleash something fresh? Would be interesting to see what they've got cooking in the back rooms.

Hmm. Crysis 2, right now, is playing third fiddle on my March line-up to Yakuza 4 and Motorstorm, and I can't really see myself picking it up anytime (soon?). As such, I wouldn't really care for a third game, but if Crytek wants to expand, then I welcome it. By all means, create something new and innovative. If it seems genuinely interesting, I'll make sure to take a look at it.
Peace.

So far Crysis 2 is looking good to me, but I hope the story is well put in this one as I only played the first Crysis for about 30 minutes.

Theres not a whole lot of story in Crysis. Basically you go to an island to rescue some hostages, stumble across some kind of mechanic alien guys in the mining site, kill everything, escape.

Crysis 2 takes place after this in NYC when the excavated alien guys start attacking everything apparently.

Oh, you fight Koreans too because they want to contain the alien guys and use their energy while your character just want to get rid of them.

attn: Sony

how about having this kind of forward-thinking attitude like Crytek instead of wasting your developers talents on sequels.

But seriously though that entire statement alone really demonstrate how forward-thinking Crytek as a company is and why they are destined for greatness.

Yes because GG, Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, Polyphony Digital are all wasting their talent. Ignorant remark. I honestly don't believe Crytek should be mentioned among the greats of developer teams in the industry, they really haven't created anything that grabbed my attention or pushed the industry as a whole. Even their hype train comes off as a 2 AA powered Hasbro toy to me.

Nut up or shut up.

Talking isn't the same as doing. Look at the numerous, varied franchises Sony has: Uncharted, Gran Turismo, Killzone, LBP, Heavy Rain, God of War, Sly Cooper, and that's just to name a few. Now, what has Crytek done: Oh, Far Cry, Crysis, its expansion and sequel. Yeah… impressive.
Peace.

oh, come on. crysis 2 is a sequel itself, so why single out sony?

Destined for greatness? This game will most likely sell on the 360, and get below average sales on the PS3.

This developer runs it's collective mouth way to much and that to me shows a lack of confidence. Take a look at Naughty Dog. They are a certified AAA studio that lets there games do the talking.

That is greatness in my book.

Maybe we should just ignore this troll (since that's pretty much what he is) and not reply to any more of his posts. He might finally go away.

Already talking about a Crysis 3 huh? Screw Crysis 2 im waiting for 3!

– If they want Crysis 2 to be successful, shouldn't they not talk about it maybe a year after Crysis 2 released?

its nice to see a developer branch out a little instead of getting in the mindset that only shooters sell well!

Why is this new game called Crysis 2 when it is the 3rd in the series? (1.Crysis, 2.Crysis Warhead)

Crysis and Warhead are 2 of my all time favourite PC games and I'd love to see them made for the PS3 as well.

Really stoked about this game – a day 1 for me.

Because Warhead has always been referred to as an expansion, not a full game.

Rumors are spreading about the PS3 version of Crysis 2 being a really bad X360 port. IGN has a new article about how bad it looked and played on the PS3. They were playing the demo. I am hoping they are wrong and by March 15th Crytek gets all the issues ironed out. If this game is bad on the PS3 I will cancel my preorder. Bummed out, I was really looking forward to this game. ūüôĀ Back to the phenomenal KZ3 SP!
