Crysis 2: First PS3 Footage Reveals Multiplayer Demo

Crytek has said many times that PlayStation 3 owners needn't worry about a crappy Crysis 2 port.

And they try to back that up with the first available PS3 footage of the highly anticipated sequel, which can be found at Eurogamer . The footage is from a single-player level called "Semper Fi or Die" and it should satisfy the naysayers. On top of which, an announcement at the end of the video tells us a PS3 multiplayer demo for Crysis 2 will be available. Executive producer Nathan Camarillo told everyone they could "probably hope for" a PS3 demo and that has proven true. We don't have a date just yet but considering that the game arrives on March 25, we have to assume that demo isn't too far off. The multiplayer demo for PC hits on March 1 and it includes two maps and two separate modes for 6-on-6 matches. That's likely what PS3 owners will get, but you never know. We'll definitely be on board with that demo, if only because the hype has been really building over the past couple of months, and we just need to see this thing…

Will Crysis 2 be best played on the PC? Yeah, probably. But console players shouldn't be left out in the cold.

The lack of footage of PS3 gameplay is worrying, there's barely any screenshots or videos.

Maybe you should just get the game on PC

About time. Now maybe I can actually play the thing and it won't lock up my console.

I'll save everyone some time and effort, they only released a demo on 360, buggy, glitchy and rife with problems.

The 360 being the easier platform to develop for, doesn't leave me filled with a great sense of hope for what the PS3 version will look like. I love Crytek, scratch that, I loved Crytek, for their work with Crysis and Warhead, but they sacrificed far too much to bring it to console, and now honestly, I just don't think what made Crysis as amazing as it was, is being carried over to Crysis 2.

Definitely passing on this, on PS3 and on my PC. Have no need for another consolized shooter.

I really do find it annoying when people keep saying (pc purists) that games get the shaft when shifted over to console. Crytek lost a lot of money on the original crysis due to piracy. They admitted that so of course they want to make money and I have yet to see any consolization in the game.

I could care less what annoys you. Considering I have both a PS3 and PC, I know what I'm talking about, as you apparently do not.

The facts are, Crysis and to a lesser degree Crysis Warhead were both originally very glitchy on PC. That's one platform. We now have 3 platforms that Crysis 2 is being launched on. The easiest to program for? Has already had so many bugs and issues, that Crytek is now backtracking on the 'exclusive' demo, because the world's pretty much aware this game will have problems and they want to try and reassure everyone these issues won't occur on PC or PS3, of course, we won't know for months, because they're going to hold out on the demo as long as possible.

Additionally, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli, already stated publicly that PC components were cut, or never added in the first place, because they wouldn't carry over to console.

Next up, the power suits been dumbed down to be more manageable on controller. After that, the environment sizes have been nerf'd to allow for the consoles lack of RAM, ruining the ability to tackle objectives in any way you see fit.

These are valid concerns, and a large deviation from the original games scope. Maybe it's better to be unaware of these changes, maybe not, dunno, for me personally though, I prefer games to be tailor made for the system they're on. Not running as low as the lowest common denominator can handle.

I game on the PC as well and tailor made or not instead of focusing on each individual platforms strength they make it even on all. I have not once complained about consoles ever getting pc ports if the company is confident enough about doing cross platform gaming they can. Crytek does not apparently.

Ports are garbage and are ruining the industry, if devs can't get their heads around one platform, why the hell are they attempting all 3? Because, they know sheep will simply buy it without doing any research, thus, it's a money grab. Nothing more, nothing less.

What made Crytek amazing, was their unflinching desire to push boundaries of what hardware and their engine can do. They have simply turned their back on that, and as such, are going to flop.

dude dont write off the game before youve played it.
have a look at the trailers from the leaked beta, this looks 10 times better then the original crysis and 10 times larger!
only thing thats disappointed me is you cant choose which suit powers to use, then use them.
as soon as a powers chosen power drains, so if you want to use the shield ability power drains even if your not getting shot, where in the original the shield only depleted when getting shot.
thats such a stupid change, why should the power go down if your not getting shot?
so if you want to use the shield ability, you basically have to wait till your almost dead then turn it on to maximize its full potential, and hope your reflexes are flash fast!
freaking utterly freaking stupid!!!!!!!!

Too late, it's written off, I've got way better things to do with my money that perpetuate the myth that multi-platform games are worth anything this day and age.

the lack of ps3 footage has been worrying. the 360 demo wasn't that impressive, so i remain unconvinced. this developer has done a lot of talking that has kind of turned me off to the game for whatever reason.

Well it looks and runs pretty good regardless. I'll might pick it up if the reviews are good. I wasn't all that impressed with the first though.

just watch the vid, it looks ok, but i dont see it looking better than uc3. until the demo or mp demo for ps3 comes out im still going to be skeptical. i don't mind seeing vids of gamplay or pics but its never same unless you play the game first hand yourself.

I can't wait for this game to come out. Not because I want to play it. But because Crytek can start fully working on Timesplitters 4. 😀

Awwwe yeaaaah! I've only played TimeSplitter:Future Perfect and played a lot of it too. In fact I still have my copy of TS:FP. It think that was my fave PS2 FPS. I really liked the four player split-screen, the variety of themes and modes (which I thought there were a fair amount of), the many guns and even more characters to choose from (like 150 or so with their respective hands, height and attributes). Actually I'd probably welcome an HD upgrade of that game!

At around the :35 mark, waterfalls pop up. That isn't really a good thing.

On a side note, I tried to log in and as I was doing so, the add page popped up. I thought I remembered reading a while back that the site wouldn't become like IGN in terms of ads and such. Those full-page ads annoy the hell out of me.

I have a big ad blocking all the left area and all the left side of the article, and I'm using a PC. Thanks to the ads, I can't read any article at the moment. It looks like its becoming of ign. I really, really don't like it.

Never seen a single ad on this site.

i completely agree about the full page ads. they are annoying as hell. i used to use my cell phone to view this site, but the ads make it clunky as hell. can't seem to skip them, and they come up more than once.

i still love this site, but it's getting kind of clunky.

"Will Crysis 2 be best played on the PC? Yeah, probably."

What do you mean by yeah, probably? When it come to a game like Crysis 2 the PC will be the obvious choice of platform(for anybody serious about the game) given the fact you can run the game on settings higher than the console version and the avaiability of future mods/add-ons.

OK, just watched the footage & it looks like a decent game though only average as far as games go, And so far, it's not even being as 1/10th as impressive as Crytek keeps claiming it is.
And so far, It can't even hold a candle to KZ3's "WOW" factor.

So one or the other, Crytek now needs to either "put up, or STFU"!!!!!!!!!!!

Crytek has put up guys, is no one in here impressed by this footage? It's aesthetically appealing, no framerate issues, excellent sound design, and the ps3 version actually looks solid. I am actually quite impressed, the demo should be incentive enough to try this out. I tried the demo on my crap-box and wasn't disappointed. Well, the map was 'meh'.

For a multiplat game this is shaping up well.

first off, that's all cgi, not in game. They could make cgi like that on ps2, so not really anything to be impressed by.

Coupling the incredibly short player limit of this multiplayer with what I've played from the 360 demo, its clear to me that Crysis 2's multiplayer is very much the same as every other multiplayer out there, with very few distinguishing characteristics (if any) at all.

So it looks like the only reason I would get this game is for the single player. And so far what I've seen of the story and gameplay is not as excellent or revolutionary as Crytek would have us believe.

But Kraygen is right, at least they got the f-bombs down. I'd be horrified if they didn't have that in an FPS.

Just downloaded the 'You are the Weapon' trailer from psn and I have to say that I was not impressed at all by the graphics or story. While Crytek may be a developer that is best known for producing one of the best looking pc games ever, they sure have a ways to go towards doing the same on a console. For anyone thats played Uncharted 2, I'm betting that you will be completely underwhelmed by the graphics of the this game unless Crytek makes some major changes in the next couple months, which I doubt.
