Although Killzone 3 isn't exactly scoring poorly, a few less-than-elite scores sparked plenty of controversy in the past week.

And after reading them, we wanted to know what you thought: have the reviews that stressed negative aspects of the hotly anticipated shooter affected you? Are you thinking it might not be so great? Well, the answer was clear: regardless of what some sources say, the fans aren't dissuaded; the vast majority say Guerrilla's latest is "obviously an awesome game." You'll see our review soon enough but for the time being, it's interesting to see how people respond to lower-than-expected scores for massively hyped titles. Then there's the ongoing theory that PS3 exclusives seem to be underrated on a frequent basis, and there may or may not be any solid evidence to prove such a theory. But in the end, it's our job to tell you if KZ3 is worthy of your time and money, and we'll try to do exactly that.

This week, thanks to the Sony Ericsson unveiling of the already-known Xperia Play, and the ongoing NGP news coverage, we want to know which of the two interests you more . Or maybe you really want both…or neither. Sony has said they need to differentiate between the two devices; they need consumers to be very clear on the obvious differences. We're wondering if they'll be successful in that, or if someone will easily confuse the Xperia Play for the next PSP… At any rate, what do you think of the two new portable devices? Want 'em?

I'll get it eventually, just not right away. I'm rather miffed that playing online will be a pain since i wont have the retro map pack from preordering it. They should give it to anyone who owns a copy of KZ2. I technically own a copy of those maps already, right?

Meh, DLC always starts me ranting so i'll just stop now.

Are you from the states? If so you can also get it from buying Slurpees. It only takes 2 collector cups ($2.50 a piece), 5 points each, to get it. They be releasing it sometime soon.

Daze,
You can't always count on 7-11 even getting those cups.

FYI, I've been trying to pick up the LBP cups at every 7-11 for over 3 months now & although the giant LBP ad(& KZ3) ads are posted right on all of their Slurpee machines, nobody's seen or heard of the LBP cups as of yet. And the same goes for the KZ3 cups.
GRRRRRRR

BTW, the only cups that they've all had(and still have) are the MMA, A.C. Brotherhood, & the MOH cups, all of which I've already added into my gaming collection.

@Biker: They don't have to be LBP or KZ cups. It can be any collector cup they have. There is a code on the inside that you redeem for points on the Slurpee website. I bought 4 cups and not 1 of them is LBP or KZ. I've already redeemed for the LBP dynamic theme and 2 home outfits for KZ. Now I'm just waiting on the Slurpee sticker pack and a few other Home items for LBP.

Daze, You are right, I stand corrected.
I forgot when I registered my codes a while back, that they weren't cup art specific, probably cause there was nothing there I wanted yet at that time.

But I still want 7-11 to get on the frigging ball here & bring out those holographic LBP & KZ3 cups just so I add them into my gaming collection.

I just went and payed off the rest of my pre-order for KZ3. I've been enjoying the beta and the single player demo. Can't wait to get the full version.

On the new poll I am definitely exited about the NGP but the phone I could care less about. I recently cut a lot of features off my phone to save money. So a new phone with extra monthly costs is just out of the question for me.

What negative reviews?????

Jawknee

Not so much negative, rather reviewers have been nit picking it apart and scoring it lower than they would other games with the same, if not worse flaws. It's almost as if they want something to be wrong with the game so they ding it for stupid crap like not liking the menus or the cut scenes fading to black(see IGN's review) when they end too often.

IGN's review score didn't make sense to me. It seemed the reviewer liked the game a lot, but, for some reason, ended up scoring it lower than expected.

It's weird how the scores for Killzone 3 came out defferently from the other sites. It really does seem like people don't want it to be great. So their picking at anything to bring the image of Killzone.
I mean Guerrilla put alot of effort into Killzone 3 in a sort amount of time. And story telling isn't their strongest attribute, but from what i've seen they did a very good job.

Felt like KZ2 was better. Not that I didn't enjoyed the beta though.

But I'm still getting this game.

Yeah well if all review sites gave KZ3 a 9.9 then the PS fanboys would all be hooting and hollering over how great KZ3 is only to complain a year later about it being the most overrated game of all time.

These so called "negative" reviews certainly need to be taken with a grain of salt, but to ignore is just plain ignorant.

The only question I'll ask is, what do you think KZ3 would score if it was 360 exclusive? … yeah that's what I thought.

After playing the beta a bit I have come to the conclusion that I am angry that the controls have been downconverted to CoD status. So sad. As such I'm gonna wait on it since I'm about to be overloaded with like 4 games. Still a must own, but FPS must always come after RPG.

I want the NGPSP2 but I don't need the phone, screw that thing.

Jawknee

I prefer the old controls as well but playing the single player demo, it's already growing on me to the point where it won't ruin KZ3 for me. They kinda went too far. They only needed to improve the responsiveness slightly.

maxpontiac

It would have scored a 9.5 if it was 360 exclusive. See Gears of War for an example.

The controls are fine in my book.

I'm liking it, so screw the negative reviewers!!!

Since I've never done online MP mode before, I've been putting all my free time into my very first beta, & I plan on jumping back into KZ3 in as soon as I've done reading this.

So if you see me there, just have a little mercy on this ole 1st time MP beta n00b.

I'm getting KZ3 on day 1,fork the forking negative reviews.
But there are a few things i found out that has lowered my buzz for the game like no online co op,sure its got split screen and thats great but i live alone and was looking forward to playing it with my younger brother over the net as well as my friends all over the world.
Another thing it seems is GG is taking away key features that made KZ2 stand out like online in botzone and the ability to spawn on your squad leader making the squad feature basically a private chat function, does anyone remember the uproar when insomniac removed the wepon wheel from resistance 2?….they should never take away from a game but add to it.
I really hope they can add online co op to KZ3 via a patch…hell i'd even pay 10 buck for it as dlc,oh well maybe i'll just have to wait for resistance 3 to get my campaign co op fix! I have no doubt that KZ3 will be a killer game(would of crapped my pants if the game was from was from the helgast point of view,DIE ISA DOGS!)

stopped listening to reviews when they gave GTAIV a 10!
if GTA IV deserves a 10, than almost every exclusive in this industry does!
just like almost every ps3 exclusive the technological side was there, but the gameplay side, the only side that matters was seriously lacking!
i dunno about anyone else, but playing a game where i do nothing but drive people around bores the sh*t out of me!
only complaint ive really heard about KZ3 is its cheesy story.
its nice to see the level design has opened up allot though, the demo really shocked me, i mean KZ2 is the typical corridor shooter you can go one place and only one place, but in the KZ3 demo it was more or less if you can see it you can visit it.
which is how shooters should be, just common sense tells you if you stay in front of a enemy at all times your not going to last long!

as for the ngp and phone, not really interested in either.
the ngp is going to be seriously expensive, and really only thing that interests me is the pretty graphics, but im not willing to shell out 400+ AUD for it!
as for the phone, my iphone 4 does everything that thing does, and then some!
looks 10 times better too!

Just a question for you. Exactly how much does an iPhone 4 cost in Australia? Because I'm willing to bet that the NGP would not cost as much, and get a decent Android phone to boot.

GTAIV is a technical achievement and great game. That game deserved those scores especially when it came out in 2008…ahead of its time. Today I wouldn't give it a 9, but back then a 10 was well deserved.

Dancemachine55
Dancemachine55

@ ZettaiSeigi

My iPhone 4 in Australia cost me 250 bucks up front for the 32 GB version on a $50 a month plan with Telstra. To buy an iPhone 4 outright costs about $800 – $900.

If the NGP can be offered outright for less than $500, it'll be a tad expensive but only just worth it for tech lovers and most hardcore gamers.

If there is 3G support available from Telstra or Optus (the two biggest network providers in Australia) for, say, $30 a month for 25GB on a plan with the NGP being $200 AUD or less, then I reckon it could hit it big with serious gamers and gadget lovers.

___________

has to be allot less then 500 bucks!
any more then 400 bucks and i cant see anyone buying it, i mean how can a hand held cost more than a 250GB 360?
no one buys phones outright because the telecoms rip you off!
im only paying 40 bucks a month for mine, and that includes 1GB of 3G data, 250 bucks worth of calls/SMS and i get 200 free minutes optus 2 optus monthly.
not bad for 40 bucks a month!

Thanks for the info, Dancemachine! Yeah, I'm referring to the outright price and that's what I'm referring to on my post above. I'd rather get an NGP (if it's going to retail for US $400 max) and a mid-range Android phone (as long as it allows me to send messages and make calls).

The reviews say the game is good except the story. I loved KZ2 and there was little story. Not sure the story can be any worse than CoD as ND did work with these guys so yeah. As far as the controls go…WHY o Why did they get rid of the weight. It's lightweight at best. Doesn't feel like CoD, but more like BC2 with a lot more weight. But the controls do feel real good though, but that heavy feeling gave it alot of character. Doesn't matter because the game feels better at the end of the day because lets face it…those laggy controls were pretty iffy. Feb. 22 is so far, but so close (GRE test coming up).

its a matter of preferance. if you liked KZ2 you will most probably like this. but if you like RPG's or are tired of first person shooter, you probably won't like this. For instance, PSXE gave Just Cause 2 a bad review( sub-par) but its one of my favourite games. reviews only give an overview of the game, its your choice if you like it or not.

I don't pay attention to most reviews anyway, I only use metacritic as a vague guide and most of the time even metacritic is biased. When a multiplat game comes out they often use positive reviews from the ps3 version on their 360 score and negative 360 reviews on their ps3 score. You wouldn't know it unless you went and read the full reviews, but I've seen them do it several times.

Most review scores are corrupted, sometimes by money, sometimes by personal agenda. Just don't take them to heart and you should be fine.

I get the feeling that is game is going to me considerably more popular and sell considerably more copies than it's predecessor ever did even though it's predecessor did better with critics. The irony is rather delicious.

I don't know why everyone is up in arms about the scores. If you're so insecure that an exclusive PS3 title didn't score a 10 from a bunch of videogame websites then you might have bigger problems. Who cares? Play the beta if you like it, then buy it. I personally loved KZ2, I like the Beta so i'm going to buy Killzone 3. People who obsess over review scores and claim that "if it were on Xbox it would do better" are pathetic and weird.

I read some of the reviews, some of the complaints didn't seem like "nitpicking", they seemed like legitimate complaints. So either ignore them, or don't.
