2K Unveils Duke Nukem Forever Balls Of Steel Edition

The best way to celebrate Duke Nukem's long-awaited return is to go all out…balls-out, if you don't mind the term.

Today, 2K Games has revealed the Duke Nukem Forever Balls of Steel Edition, which will be available alongside the standard edition on May 3. This special collectors package is exclusive to GameStop and Amazon in North America, so just remember it can only be purchased at those two locations. For $99.99, you will receive the following:

As the press release says, Duke Nukem is "irreverent, politically incorrect, and uber macho," although we wonder if they're right about saying he's "one of the biggest and most recognizable brands in the interactive entertainment industry." …he certainly is for those over the age of 25 or 30 but the young'uns are pretty clueless about this dude.

Well, either way, we hope it's good and we hope it's popular. The Duke deserves nothing less.

I wish I had money to burn on this. The Duke certainly deserves it. I'll be getting the game at least (if for no other reason than nostalgia), but I doubt I'll be ponying up a C note for the collector's edition.

Hail to the king baby!! Now lets just pray i can get this in canada and not have to waste far to much money to import.

I wonder why they say it available in north america when it is only in usa…. Amazon.com and ebgames.com both have listing for this. Amazon.ca and ebgames.ca no listing…. This is seriously the 6th special edition in the last few months i had to import from the states to get and every one of them listed as available in north america yet can only be bought in the states. So damn lame and frustrating.

If I was a Duke fan, I'd be all over this. He's just never really appealed to me, though. This is wicked for the fans out there, that's for sure.

Every time I hear about this game, though, I laugh that its sub-title is "Forever" and it literally took forever to get here. Funny stuff!

AWESOME!!! It's actually happening! I cannot wait for this game. It's going to be SOOOO old schools it's going to be ridiculous. The nostalgia I am going to feel playing this game will be second to none. Duke…..Welcome back son!

"Shake it Baby!"

#Best videogame ever line!

I love Duke Nukem games. I remeber playing Time to Kill on the PS2 and going to a strip club to tip the hoes, go take a piss in the restroom, all before blowing up some pig cops (I know, redundant, LoL) into oblivion. And it had a freakin Jetpack!? OMG, Im getting myself HYPE for this game!

LONG LIVE THE KING!

Personally I preferred, "Your face, your a$$, what's the difference?"

Or the always delightful, "I'm going to rip off your head and **** down your neck."

No one tells it like it is better than the Duke.

Ok you got me. Duke is full of awesomeness!

The best thing about that was that you really did finish the boss fight by ripping off his head and sh*tting down his neck!

I'm a long time fan, and have done all my research on this game.

Let me tell you, CoD, Killzone, R3, Bulletstorm…ANY FPS will have no chance against this!

I don't give a damn what any of you lot think, im ol'school, i know what's up and this game is gonna teach this effed up generation what true gaming, true FPSers are all about.

An ego metre as a health bar?! Heal by lifting weights, checking yourself in the mirror etc?? No ridiculous regeneration health? That alone is balls out REAL!

Im just so glad they got rid of all the shoddy modern techniques ala iron sights etc.

Kids will see what it meant back then.

I'm down with all that, but I fear the things that make it great will be the things that the evil reviewers use to say it sucks.

Have you seen the IGN preview? It's hilarious and does exactly as you say. Duke is review proof.

The clips and info i've seen are absolutely brilliant.

I'll check it, I suppose that means a 7 from IGN at best.

Hey, I'm all for anticipating this game too, but I don't see quite as much to get excited about as you do. Sure it'll be nostalgic, but will there be anything substantial other than that?

Also, I think its a little premature to be saying it'll be better than all those FPS's you mentioned. This game is in an entirely different sub-genre of FPS's it seems (well, except for Bulletstorm, they both seem to be in the balls-to-the-wall fun as hell FPS sub-genre, although it looks like Duke is going to be the better one by far). So really you can't compare it to Killzone, Resistance, etc.

I do agree that we've needed an FPS with an actual health bar for a while now. I'm getting a bit tired of the whole regenerating health myself. And an FPS without ironsights has been long incoming too.

I guess the game is still set in Las Vegas since it comes with cards, poker chips and dice. I'm still not sold on the game but then again, I can't believe Duke Nukem Forever is actually going to release!

Yep it's set in Vegas. One of the screenshots shows the Bellagio sign. Well, actually it says Fellatio, but put one and one together, and you can figure out what it's supposed to be lol.

Back in 1999, I saw screenshots of the game and all the casino resorts have humorous names. Very similar to what Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas did later with Las Venturas.

I can't be affording all of that, but it's pretty cool. Why mini cards though? Are they from when Duke gets shrunk to a pint sized dude?

Ya gotta love when old school comes back to play. Duke is a must buy for nostalgia purposes and it would be cool to see a new generation "get" this kind of thing. I fear they will just think it's cheesy though. It's like showing somebody the movie "The Last Boyscout" They think it uses tired old comedy lines when that's where they all came from in the first place.

Now, if Duke is a success, when can I expect the return of Lo Wang?

Whilst it's defo old school, 3D Realms were also aiming for innovation and i read that back in early builds, the game was way ahead of the time but George Broussard (writer, director) was never satisfied. Whether innovation is still there or whether it's now an entire old school (in the good way) affair is to be seen.

I read that some of the material they had from a 2001 build would still be fresh today if it's kept in, the example he gave was that it had a feature where duke could pick up and carry anything and when combined with other actions, became revolutionary, such as creating your own ways around obstacles or creating barricades, all the way to shrinking a pig cop and putting it in the microwave until it explodes. That does sound outrageous for 2001 and would still deliver a kick today.

lol, microwave bacon. One of the strongest things Duke had back in the day was those things you just didn't expect like an ACTUAL reflection in the mirror, taking a piss, or giving cash to the strippers. If they take that forward with what is possible today the interactive environment nature alone could make your cods look like a stale point and shoot environment.

I don't know about all that stuff. Let's just see if the game is good first before plunking down this kind of money for some playing cards and dice.

It should also come with an actual pair of steel balls… like spheres not testicles.
