It's one of the most popular FPS franchises out there and in 2010, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 received our Shooter of the Year award.

DICE is a premier developer in this industry, and they're not about to abandon one of the most accomplished names today: it has been revealed that Battlefield 3 will hit store shelves this fall. Scheduled for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, the game will be available in limited edition form (details coming soon) and unsurprisingly, will boast both a single-player campaign and an involved online multiplayer component. Max player support? 64. Plus, we'll get true-blue co-op for the campaign, which ought to make many shooter aficionados happy, and we'll even be able to pilot jets around. This new installment will feature DICE's upgraded Frostbite 2 engine; the original Frostbite was utilized in the first two Bad Company titles as well as Medal of Honor . The latter was technically developed by Danger Close, but Dice handled the multiplayer, remember?

Evidently, we'll play as a U.S. Marine who will be dropped into battle situations all around the world. That includes major cities like Paris and New York, so variety of locales shouldn't be an issue. In all honesty, we'll probably be more excited about Battlefield 3 than Modern Warfare 3 …but maybe that's just us.

Frostbite in the Fall. How unusual.

I skipped Black ops for Halo Reach and I think I'll be picking this up over Modern Warfare 3. I've just lost interest in Call of Duty (too many hours glued to online trying to prestige… eugh, what was wrong with me?)

I will most likely pick this up for Xbox rather than ps3 for the simple reason u get more chatty crowds and personally I find it more fun on xbox. Single player games and al those PRECIOUS EXCLUSIVES is what I keep my ps3 for. It is also the preferrable console overall :).

Off topic: just purchased Vanquish in GAME and I highly recommend it for those up for a real blast and unique expereience. Don't expect much in terms of story but for me its rekindled my love for bullet time and ridiculous shooty blasty explody things!! Give it a purchase, u wont regret it ;).

Great choice, cod is as generic as they come. I really wouldn't say playing on live could be more fun, i just cannot justify paying to play online. I mean, how expensive are games these days, plus $50? No sir, the only part of online gaming I pay for is to my ISP, just have fun with the 12 year olds screaming obsentities into your ear.

Not a fan of playing with 63 other players at the same time, but I tell you, that co-op campaign is real good news. As long as the co-op isn't just split-screen nonsense. I want to play with my online friends. They do that, it's going to be fantastic.

And why jets? Unless we're talking some kind of killstreak reward. Who wants to fly around while all their buddies are on the ground?

not sure if you've played much Battlefield Bad Company 2, but pilots are a excellent addition to the team to have, if that person knows how to fly. They get just as many points as their grounded allies, especially when one of your friends is in the gunner seat with you. Often, the team without a good pilot is the team that loses

I haven't played BC2 at all. I bought it on sale a couple weeks back but haven't gotten around to it yet. Do you fly jets in BC2 or are you talking about the choppers?

are you a cod guy or just plain stupid?
in bc2 having a pilot in the air supporting the squad is awesome and sometimes even necessary to win. and having a buddy do it is even better.
a 64-player cap is a little much, because 24 is plenty in bc2… the more the merrier i guess.
go play bc2 right now Alienage. get good at it.

there are no jets on BC2 that are controllable, only air vehicles are a variety of Helicopters, including transports with side mini guns to attack choppers, equipped with hellfires and a gunner seat for a buddy.

The other vehicle is the UAV, its really small unmanned vehicle with a camera equipped as well as a gun with the right set up. It can also fire off a hellfire, really good against tanks.

However, on Battlefield 1943 ( the downloadable title ) there are fighter jets. Even on that game, if you had a good pilot, it greatly helped out.

I got into the series after playing countless hours of CoD4 ( my personal fav CoD), figured id give Bad Company 1 a try. Its different for sure, and may be a bit jarring at first. BC2 is pretty addictive for me

Bye crap of duty, with Battlefield 3 and Frostbite 2.0 DICE won't hit the overrated series sales numbers but critical acclaim like bad co. 2 did.

This fall is going to be very busy! Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, Resistance 3. Hmm, seems like a common theme is developing here.

They need to stop releasing so many games because these games are targeted at an adult crowd who just don't feel the need to waste money on everygame that comes out. I might be speaking for myself, but I use to waste alot of money buying/collection sneakers…I won't let gaming do that to my empty wallet. And my life is get more chaotic with expenses, gaming is never in the equation anymore…it's always a luxury that I don't want to spend money on anymore. (Will get UC3, ME3, Oblivion for fall..everything else is a maybe or maybe not)

Battlefied 2 was a great rental. That's why I have a feeling I might actually purchase one finally. By then KZ3 might either be tired for me or I just want a new shooter and this looks fulfilling…I just hope this isn't a November release…that's one competitive month.

Is it wrong to still be playing the first one? Ah dang. I guess it's time to fire up the second one in anticipation of the third.

I never thought I'd be excited about another war/multiplayer fps game anytime soon, especially with so much other great stuff in the pipeline for this year.
But this looks just too good to be ignored, especially that they have bothered to go through the technical challenges of implementing *real* coop: Storyline coop. Those are few and far between!

I was talking with a COD mouthbreather yesterday about Battlefield. I explained to him about strategy and working together as a team, yada yada. He looked at me, eyes glazed over, and said "Thaa game sound stoooopid." Anyway, cant wait for this. Ill be playing Bad Company 2 and Killzone 3 til it arrives.

LMAO…that was funny. Sounds like the crowd I run with. Name something like Bioshock or KZ3 and these guys go "Huh?…thats not CoD"…WTF is wrong with these guys. And why is Black Ops still pushing units that most publishers wish their own games could pull in int the first week of release.

oh, yeah and I have one more little thing to say… I HOPE THIS GAME BLOWS MW3 RIGHT OUT OF THE WATER!!!… well, actually that wont be hard if COD keeps doing what they are doing.

So is the main name whittled down to just "Battlefield" now?

Um it always has been just Battlefield .

Battlefield2 is one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played. Flying a helicopter with 5 of your friends inside it shooting at the enemy below is something COD doesn't offer.

"Um it always has been just Battlefield"

Not true. The very first game of the franchise was named Codename Eagle. It switched to Battlefield for the next game, and the rest is history.

I've always enjoyed the Battlefield series. Well, except for Battlefield 2142 anyway. So I'm looking forward to this next one as well. And 64 player online has been there since the original so that's nothing new. And jets were in BF2 so it's nice to see them coming back in this one too. And it's even nicer, for me at least, to know that DICE has already said the PC version will receive extra attention.

no its not confirmed, all they said is they are thinking about making it.
but thinking and actually doing are 2 very different things!
its not going to be out anytime soon though, DICE are busy working on BFBC3, BF3, and the free to play game.

Geobaldi

EA Games Europe senior vice president Patrick Soderlund confirmed it. DICE has only declined to comment on it since it hasn't been officially announced as being made by them. Common practices that are always being done by video game companies.

I read somewhere that the 64 players on a map only applies to the PC version and that the consoles only have 24 people. Which suits me fine. It worked for BC2 so why change it.

spiderboi

I've yet to play the first one and the sequel, so sue me. But I really enjoyed BF1943. My very first shooter on the PS3. I spent countless hours trying to master the plane. And how I wish they could integrate such vehicles into the latest.
