It's likely atop the priority list for any hardcore role-playing fan, but what about those sitting on the fence?

Well, that's the purpose of demos, right? It appears we might be seeing a play sample for BioWare's Dragon Age II at some point in the very near future, although there's nothing official as of yet. A reader has pointed us in the direction of this GameSpot forum thread , which may have some very real evidence: it seems Danish EA subscribers have received an e-mail saying the DAII demo is "out now." Well, we certainly don't see it on the PSN but remember this- in new copies of Dragon Age: Origins , we saw the date February 1, 2011, which we all assumed was the release date for the sequel. But that date is actually March 8; perhaps they always intended for the demo to drop on the first of February this year…? That might be a thin theory but we're trying to be optimistic, 'cuz we're all sorts of interested in Dragon Age II .

Whenever that demo does show up – which it very well might do this week – we'll take a look and toss up our hands-on impressions.

I'm definitely downloading this. I missed Origins so I'm I wanna see what the fuss is about.

You missed a hell of a game in Origins, though I can't speak for the console versions. I played it on PC, as such games are intended to be played–isometric view, strategic pause, beefy graphics, etc. 😉

I recommend picking it up if you get a chance. It's pretty lengthy, especially if you go through all the side quests, and the replay is good for the intro stories and alternate endings!

Played DA Origins on the PS3, and I enjoyed it immensely, despite the know console issues.

PC gaming, meh.

Yes, you missed one excellent game! If I were you I would get Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition right now. The gameplay is awesome and a lot of fun. The characters and voice acting are top notch. The graphics are very good. The only thing I didn't like was the travel system. I would have loved to actually walk from location to location instead of seeing bloody foot prints on a map. I would have liked it to be like Oblivion in that respect. That was my only gripe as it was like a good book and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Don't play DAOII before you play and finish DAO. Give it a shot!

The ps3 version's freezing and slowdown seems to have improved since patching and the isometric view, while nostalgic, isn't nearly as good in a roleplaying sense.
I've got one in the middle of Awakening and one still early on. I had a lot more but it's one of the few saves whose finickiness wouldn't let me transfer between hard drives.
I've got time before March though,
and I'm to busy showing up the Lakers in the conference finals atm.

Cool, I'll check it out when it lands. Though, I'm going to log in a lot of time with the first game before I think about playing the second.

The date makes a lot of sense to me, cuz not only is it this week, it's a Tuesday, and we all know the PSN is updated with fresh content on that day….

I just put two and two together, so hopefully it comes out 4!

This demo will actually be one I plan to miss out on if it comes. Certain games I know I'm going to buy I like to come at completely fresh.

Whereas I still habour concerns about it taking a new direction away from Origins.

I currently have a preorder but would like to try the demo and satisfy myself I am making the right purchase.

Exactly. This is one game I do not need any demo for. Day one, played fresh out of the box.

I agree with world, certain games you like going into fresh. Ignoring all the media and previews behind the game and just being completely surprised. That was what was nice about the PS1 days, you never knew what you were going to get unless you subscribed to a gaming mag.

However world I would caution with this game, if they bastardize DA2 like they did ME2, then you might want to try the demo. I can only hope they aren't trying to appeal to the masses with this game by changing everything around. I dont think its as likely to go the action route as ME2 did, but there is always that chance now that I've seen what EA is capable of ruining. As you can tell I have a little grudge towards EA =P

I'm interested in this game. I hope the shiped game doesn´t require a big mandatory install to the HDD, mine is running out of space. Time to upgrade.

I hear that and just upgraded my PS3 to a 500GB! Best decision I made! I can now play GT5 again with 8GB on the HDD! I found a WD for $53 at Amazon with free shipping. Make sure you choose a 5400rpm due to the 7200rpm causing to much heat. Cannot go wrong upgrading as it is very easy. Just make sure you have a large enough USB HDD or thumb drive to house all your backup. Mine was 59GB so I need to "rent" a USB HD from a dept store to do my upgrade.

I really want to have a demon for Dragon Age II. I haven't played a lot of WRPGs, but there seems to be a lot of positive stuff going on with Dragon Age. A demo would definitely help convince me if this is going to be my cup of tea (or coffee).

Ergh. I still haven't finished the first one. And I'm kinda bummed I didn't get a code for Isaac's costume for DAII.

Still getting it though. It's good stuffs.

I think I will give the demo a whirl, simply because I never played the first Dragon Age. Engine should be improved, felt the graphics of the first one was mediocre at best.

Its not all about the GFX, its more about the world, the characters and the story. But presentation is not bad, but it could have been better.

We'll see what Dragon Age II brings to the table…

Q!

You really should finish DAO before you play/buy DAOII. IMHO that is.

Yeah, the graphics on the DA:O was mediocre, and the animation was pretty choppy. I hope they use the Mass Effect 2 engine for DA2. That would help alot!

There's a good chance I'll probably pick up DA2. But I'll definitely check out the demo first to see what the graphics and play mechanic is like.

@big6
fyi: Me2 Engine=UE3 (we all know how well that one fares on PS3 ^^ – interested to see how the final build of Bulletstorm compares to its 360 counterpart).

Dragon Age uses one of BioWare's proprietary engines. DAII will utilize an updated version of DA's engine and I kinda prefer DAII's look 😉

ME3's gonna use the latest UE3.5 and after Bulletstorm I'm kinda hyped to see the new engine in action on PC (yea, I played ME1+2 on Pc using the import feature and bought a ps3 copy to support BioWare).

That is a very interesting point "ro kurorai" brings up there, about the proprietary engine used for dragon age vs Unreal on ME2. Cause I firmly believe that it makes more sense from a developers point of view to use available engines as opposed to every developer spending resources on "reinventing the wheel", as I imagine many around here is advocating.
One could always argue about Unreal and other commercially available engines shortcomings etc, but I believe that at the end of the day the use of those engines gives better games.
