Silent Hill: Downpour has been confirmed by the recent issue of Game Informer, and a few more details – along with new screenshots – have arrived.
You can find the new pics over at VG247 ; they show off a certain darkness and grittiness customarily associated with this freaky franchise. The better news is that the game should be ready to go for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall and thus far, Vatra's effort is looking solid. As for whether or not it'll be a direct sequel, Konami has said Downpour will feature a "completely original storyline," which puts a new protagonist, Murphy Pendelton, in the limelight. He's actually a convict who escapes and finds himself trapped in Silent Hill and you can see parts of the town in those screenshots; two new areas, The Diner and The Devil's Pit, are shown. The plot and atmosphere have always been two of Silent Hill 's most crucial elements, and it seems the new designer understands that. As for an official release date, we'll just have to wait a bit longer.
Now, all that's left is for Capcom to announce the new Resident Evil . That has to be soon, wouldn't you think?
