When it was first announced, all we had was the Japanese trailer. And because there was plenty of dialogue, some viewers felt they were missing something important.

Well, you can view that Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailer now in high-definition and with the English voice; Lightning narrates and although she doesn't really give us any hints about the sequel, it does help. However, if you have not finished FFXIII and you intend to at some point, there are some definite spoilers in the video. You probably guessed that if you caught the Japanese version but we just figured we'd warn you.

There's just something about that trailer that irks us but at the same time, it has that classic Square-Enix polish. We have asked what "evolved" means and the more we think about it, the more we think the developers are heading in the wrong direction. But who knows? Maybe they'll surprise us all and deliver something that plays like an RPG; maybe it won't feature the real-time combat found in Versus XIII .

Until we catch the gameplay details, FFXIII-2 is up in the air.

I think "evolved" means that FF XIII-2 will use motion controls(Move, Kinect).

"Evolved"…I could have sworn Yoshinori Kitase said the same thing about FFXIII's battle system…that it was an evolution.

But did anyone notice something. Check out the date: "NEXT WINTER"…Winter 2012. WHAT…THE…HELL.

In the Japanese trailer it said Coming 2011.

Or when they say "next winter" they really mean Winter 2011, since we are currently in the winter season (well most of us…lucky Aussies! & penguins!)

It probably means that the English language version is releasing a few months after the Japanese language version.

I was irked by Tidus (although I liked his narration) and Vanille, but other than that I've enjoyed many of SE's English voice overs. Balthier, for example, was outstanding.

But I would be all for the option of selecting English or Japanese from a menu!!!

WorldEndsWithMe

FF voiceovers are pretty good, the acting itself used to suffer (Tidus and Yuna sometimes made me queasy) but the voices themselves are usually solid and fit the characters well. None so more than XIII. You can always buy the 360 Japanese version that has the option of subtitles.

I have noticed this amongst all video game and anime fans. Why the heck are we so content on having japanese voice overs?

The english and japanese voice overs both sound good to me. Can hardly tell the difference. Maybe back in the day you could easily tell how bad the english voice overs where (for example: Samurai Showdown the movie).

It seems like people only like them now in days because it is japanese and never give their american counter parts any credit. Maybe it is a otaku thing or japanese pride situation. Either way, I still have no freaking clue…

Well Kiryu, one of my friend imported the Hong Kong version because it contains Japanese voice and English Subs.

Maybe you can get that.

AnonWTF, it is just something the elitist Otaku people insist on. It's annoying as hell. They say the acting is better, but it's just as over-the-top in the same exact places. Not to mention most of these folks don't even speak the language they claim to know so much about in the acting department.

@Worlds
While there is some truth to what you say, I've personally always preferred subtitled foreign language movies to dubbed ones. There is something about the original performance that somehow doesn't always translate to an English dub. I'm not saying that's always the case, but it definitely *is* the case many, many times.

As an example, have you ever seen Das Boot? I've seen it in German with subtitles and dubbed. I saw the German with sub-titles first, and saw it was coming on again years later and decided to watch it – not knowing it was the dubbed version. I didn't hate the dubbed version, but it felt hollow. A year or two later, I purchased it on DVD, and was uber-annoyed to find out that what I thought was a subtitled version turned out to be the dubbed version. Now the thing is, that the dub was done with a good cast of actors, but it just didn't capture something that the original had.

On the flip side, there are plenty of Anime where the dubbed version is superior. Then again, there are plenty where it's not… Some of it is personal taste, some is the quality of the cast, and some is the quality of the voice casting. I always hate it when the folks casting the voices think that they know better than the original director and can take a voice in a different direction.

It raises so many questions. Will this remain PS3 exclusive? Are these the missing contents taken out of the original FFXIII?

Good job for making gamers buying "one" FFXIII game for the price of two.

So, this just announced game already has a localized trailer? Wow, that's convenient.

BTW, any news on WKC2? All this talk of RPGs has me wondering whether there is any more info on that one? The last information I can find was indirect confirmation of localization and suggestions that Sony will release WKC2 internationally once two major DLCs for WKC2 are launched in Japan.

I would be more inclined to play with the Georama portion if it wasn't so damn hard to up my guild rank.

I really hope the trophies and online guild stuff is re-evaluated for WKC2. I wonder if the US will get the revamped first game with the second as well. If they do I'll play that through again with the improvements for sure.

@Worlds,

I know what you're saying, believe me, I do. But, I also think it might be worth it. It isn't as hard as you think, and doesn't take as much time as you might think. The quests escalate in the number of guild points and XPs you get, so you can level both quite quickly in the end. It does take too long for my liking, but I really want to rebirth my avatar and beef up my Georama.

WorldEndsWithMe
WorldEndsWithMe

I'm definitely using my avatar again. I guess what is annoying about the ranking is that you have to do the same quests over and over to get anywhere, and you can't count too much on someone being there online to help.

TheHighlander

Yep, that's true Worlds. Last night I tried one of the farming techniques that the forums suggest, re-running Best Served Cold over and over. All you do is start it, talk to the guy and then go directly to the ruins and kill Big Red. But, as much as I hate re-doing the quests, that rinse/repeat cycle of just re-doing thee boss battle from Best Served Cold was sleep inducing. So I went back to my escort mission in the Frass Chasm, it's repetitive, but at least I have more than one kind of opponent, and besides I get XP and GP as wll as gold and tons of drops, so it has it's compensations. GR6 and counting. The gap to GR7 is a PITA, but there are new quests so….

IDK about this one. I remember that FFX-2 really wasn't what I was looking for.
Plus I really don't want to return to that FF13 universe. Since its due out this yr in Japan, we'll have to have new details on gameplay soon. I'll make a decision then.

Each Roman numeral represents it's own world and characters. That's all you really need to know.

If FFVII has 6 titles, they all take place in the world of FFVII. If it has a different roman numeral, it's a different world with different people. That's all you need to know. Gameplay often changes no matter the Roman Numeral. In the end, judge each game as it's own entity.

No problem! You aren't the only one to be confused, for sure! I know lots of people who wouldn't try a modern FF because they thought they'll be lost in the story since they haven't been around for the first 12.

But yeah… each one a unique experience separate from the rest. ^.^

WorldEndsWithMe

Along with that, there are common elements in (most)every FF such as a character named Cid, critters like Cactuar and Moogles (Google Moogles, they are cute) and Chocobos.

There are also a lot of names based on weather and element patterns, and variously cool versions of summoned monsters to help you (Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut)

These are all part of the charm that fans have friendly arguments over, which had the better Bahamut, which had the best story, which had the best villain, which had the best battle/support system? and on and on.

Hope that helps too.

I think I prefer the trailer I can't understand to this one.

The voice acting and dialog was terrible throughout most of the game. I'm with Kiryu. Blue Ray affords you plenty of room. Give people a freaking choice of Japanese or English.

Well, FFX-2 had sweet gameplay (the best battle system of any FF in my opinion) and was entirely different from FFX.

But I think I'll wait for a few reviews, particularly from here. Either that or wait for a price drop. If they can make the characters interesting, I'm all in. So… we'll see.

That and SE seems obsessed with Lightning's thighs over any other female feature. It's just weird.

Look at the cover of your FFXIII game if you have it, Light's thigh appears scarily abnormal in length.
