The PlayStation Network is home to quite a few unique downloadable titles, and it seems we'll see several more in 2011.
One of them is the intriguing project by Vitamin G Studios, Undergarden . The new game was unveiled over at the PlayStation Blog and as they say, the game is about exploration. They call it "part game, part experience" and it definitely sounds cool; the various environments should be a huge bonus, and as a player, we'll sort of "float through these dark caverns, and fill them with color and music." You'll collect pollen so as to grow beautiful flowers and exotic plants, and some of those plants will bear fruit, which can then be used to help you progress through the levels. The whole thing sounds extremely artistic; it also supports drop-in/drop-out co-op play and overall, we're thinking this one has a ton of promise. Here's one snippet:
"Many games are really fast-paced and full of tension. The UnderGarden is pretty much the polar opposite of that. It is about creating rather than destroying: you can’t die, you can’t really fail, and you play at your own pace. In the right state of mind, it is a nice relaxing experience. You can pour yourself a beverage, shut off the lights, and just float around the world. If you are a fan of games like Flower, or flOw, then you’ll be right at home here. Even if you spend more time playing shooters, The UnderGarden is a great change of pace to help you unwind afterwards."
And did you notice the first line of the post? "Congratulations! You’ve hit rank 50 in another first-person shooter. Now it’s time for something completely different. Welcome to The UnderGarden." That. Right there. Give 'em your money for that quote.

All I can say is that the screenshots look gorgeously gorgeous.
Looks great, it's almost SNES-ish (which is a great thing!)
Should be an extremely relaxing game. Definitely artistic.
lol, that quote 'bout FPSs was great.

Played the PC demo of it two months ago. It's colorful and all but I just couldn't get into at all no matter how hard I tried. I'm sure there are others out there that should enjoy it, but just too kiddified for me.

That part semed aimed at a certain demographic… I lol'd
Kudos for the Monty Python reference as well. Classic material.
Great idea… definitely something too look forward to exploring I think. Hopefully playing this gives me the same feeling I had when playing Flower…
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
Looks interesting though I was confused when I read the title.
In the UK "Undergarden" means something completely different 🙂
this is one of the best things about sony, there actually willing to take a leap of faith on things.
allot of publishers would say oh no thats too risky not many people will buy it, but sony says lets give it a try.
thats why you would never find other games like this, flower, heavy rain or TLG on other systems.
Sounds like Flower in a cave. Cool.
Now how about Wesley Snipes' PSN, Live project that he's putting together from jail?
Yeah I was thinking flower in space.
I like that people choose to do the artistic games, but flower wasn't really my thing. I'm glad people do this stuff though, just means more options and inspires others to do something innovative.
It's Flower in darkness with co-op. Trippy.
I just have to point out this isn't a PSN exclusive. It has been on XBLA for months.
Yea, I found out from reading the comments in the PS Blog.
I thought it's a new game when I read this article.
Unfortunately the reviews I read were not very good. I was intrigued by this game, though, because the screenshots look great. I'd be interested in seeing a review from you guys when it's released.
Exclusive or not… That doesn't change anything. A cool experience is a cool experience regardless.
I totally loved Flower, and when it comes to games I put two things above all: Exploration and coop. So I look forward to this one!
It's local coop only 🙁 Oh well, still look forward to the exploration. 🙂
looks like a cross between pixeljunk shooter and pixeljunk eden. Looks really cool though.
I thought exploration couldn't be done on a nextgen console.
It looks like they cross-pollinated Pixeljunk with Flower(which is a good thing)
