While we still don't know exactly what Hideo Kojima plans to do next, we know his Kojima Productions team has to push forward with the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

As reported by Andriasang , the team is hiring for the "Next Generation Metal Gear Solid Series Production Staff," according to a new job listing at Konami's Japanese site. For programming, they're asking for people with experience on all major platforms (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC) and for graphics, they want applicants who are interested in "conducting research into next generation CG." Now, MGS4 was exclusive to the PS3 but like so many third-party franchises, the next iteration may indeed be multiplatform; we can't forget about Metal Gear Solid: Rising , which is in development for both the PS3 and 360. Kojima is often very cryptic so we're never really sure about his definite intentions, but one Tweet last year may have hinted at MGS5:

"Had our first meeting for the next 'A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME' with the core team members today. Some member are also participating on 'RISING' so 10 people total this time. We will have a meeting every morning to discuss planning, testing, research, and scouting. An open environment to talk about important issues and share our dreams and concept for the project."

Later, he said he'd either make MGS5 or an "original game," although he never came clean about his decision. Many have hoped to hear about a new Zone of the Enders , which has apparently been on the back burner for a while , and others have hoped the mastermind would turn his attention to something entirely new. Well, either way, we do need the next Metal Gear Solid , right? We still have a lot of questions but perhaps we'll get some answers this year…

I don't care if its multiplatform as long as the game is great and pushes the limit for the console of my choice

I agree. I would buy games like Crysis 2, because the graphics just look awesome in everything. Games like Bayonetta, I won't even touch because of the bad port. If they aren't making any effort for the gamers, why should we give them our money?

Kojima has always focused on Japan first, I'm pretty sure PS3 will always be their lead platform.

But you know that doesn't happen Aaron. Look at Castlevania. They did a great job but the game still has some multiplatform hold backs going on. The clunky frame rate and some times rough on the eyes graphics. Some times it looked like everything was scrubbed with sand paper.

It's just better when developers can focus on one piece of hardware.

true, but i just need another mgs fix. I guess what i meant to say as long as my console of choice ( ps3) isn't severely gimped like Bayonetta or something like that

Indeed. I would just hate to see a new MGS featuring either of the Snakes take a step backwards from MGS4. Game is such a masterpiece and a lot of the reason the game came out the way it did was because it was exclusive. Rising looks interesting but I have a feeling it's going to be very short and will disappoint a great many MGS fans.

The problem there is when it comes to muti-platform games they are always made to run on the lowest common denominator and then ported to other, more capable platforms. Wasn't Kojima complaining that 50GB with BR wasn't enough for his vision with MGS4? Well Kojima good luck then making you're vision for MGS5 fit in 6.9GB… There are three things that really separate the PS3 from the 360; The CELL processor, Blu-Ray and standard HDDs. So therefor MGS5 will be gimped when you compare it to what it could be if it's PS3 exclusive. I'm not saying MGS5 will be a bad game I'm just saying it wont be as content rich as it would as PS3 exclusive which for me will be disappointing. It will be FFXIII all over again… I'll be left wondering what was left out of the game to accommodate the 360 and the limited DVD capacity also MGS5 will be extremely linear.

No thanks. If MGS5 is a multiplatform title, I will hold off on buying on it until I see that it is flawless on the PS3.

Bayonetta is fine though with the patch though. Your just missing out on a fantastic, off the wall action game.

The first thing I thought of when I read the topic title was PSP2, since it's the next gen of Sony Handheld devices. But they're looking for PS3/360 programmers, so (thankfully) it's a console game.

Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Metal Gear Solid is FINISHED!
Seriously what can they do, a sequel after 4, no.
a prequel, no, because they have already done Portable Ops and Peace Walker, surely we cant get another one. There is nothing new they can do without it getting milked.

Maybe they will transform PSP's peace maker into the Major consoles but still this article indicating about a all new game for the series.

Actually there is one thing I can think of that just might work. Make MGS5 a prequel and make it about The Boss. Specifically about her early life and how she became The Boss. I think that could actually work out really well.

Let me go into conspiracy theorist mode and tell you why we need another MGS title.

The accounts holder at Microsoft dangles a big juicy carrot in front of the face of the accountant for Konami. He says that if they can get Kojima to release an honest to god MGS title on the 360 then he can have the carrot. He then follows up by saying that if they can't convince Kojima to release an MGS on 360 then they will be forced to reconsider their future financial dealings with Konami.

Fast forward to the board meeting with Kojima Productions and Konami. The accountant for Konami has relayed all this info to the higher ups and they pass along the news to Kojima all the while stating that if he can't seem to find the time to make a 360 MGS release they don't know if they will be able to find the time or money to finance and release anything else that he produces.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Japanese business dealings. Strong suggestions are made and that stuff gets brutal and tense.

Is that how this game came about? I don't know. Is this scenario even close? Maybe, maybe not. Like I said, I went into conspiracy theorist mode.

@Ultimadream

Oh I don't know. Considering the pivotal role The Boss played in the series I'm not so sure if a game detailing her life and her origins would really count as "milking".

Jawknee
Jawknee

Considering the last MGS game on a console came out in 2008, you cannot say they would be milking it by giving us another. This isn't Call of Duty. This series has substance and as I said below there are plenty of holes in the story arch to fill. Have faith in Kojima.

spiderboi

Well, we all see how this will go. Sure, they can make an MGS out of The Boss. But how will her story go? That she's a prodigy of "The Captain", and she's *shudder* suddenly betrayed? Let's not be so predictable, shall we?

If they do decide on her, better not be an origins, as it may turn out as I mentioned above. It should be on the back reason why she chose to do what she did. MGS4 and Peacewalker didn't really give a clear picture her rationale on her actions.

MadPowerBomber

if they decide to make a game about Boss, I'm sold. She's one of the most interesting characters to come out of MGS, and I loved all of them. Except Otacon. I liked him like an annoying little brother, but all the others were pretty awesome in one way or another.

Even Raiden.

But Boss is just golden.

Akuma_

No, it cant be about The Boss.

All mgs games have been about the Snakes.

Thats the way it should stay.

I don't see a problem with them making a 5th entry to the series, in fact, i don't like the way 4 ended, making it seem like Snakes story was over, he was the most badass hero ever, his story will never be over, he will never just sit back and let the rest of the world destroy itself, he is a quintessential hero, he will keep fighting, and we will keep playing his story.

I wouldn't mind seeing a MGS:Meryl done from her side, along with all of her backstory.

Just make sure to interlace her storyline with Snake, Octagon, & a host of the other characters.

I say to this, we DONT need a next MGS. We don't even need Rising. CANCEL that right now. Peace Walker was a beautiful, authentic definitive one to end it on. MGS4 WAS the actual conclusion chronologically aswell.

All these things but the biggest one is that Kojima deserves to move on creatively. He has so much talent/ability that he should be allowed to use it to explore and show us something else wonderful for once. WE the fans owe him that.

GuyverLT

UUHHH!! Some of us actually want to play MGS:Rising, I know I do, So no they shouldn't cancel it. As long as it's coming for Kojima's team I know it will be a great game multi-platform or not.

If you don't want to play the game or your not interested, then don't play it when it comes out, just turn your attention to something else. That is not a very hard concept to grasp.

It's Kojima… what's there not to be excited about? I still enjoy playing through MGS4. I've put over 70hrs into Peace Walker and Rising seems to have a gameplay mechanic of it's own! Even if his next project isn't a MG it's still going to be gold. On the other hand, I just wish he would stay exclusive. Kojima productions is too talented to be multiplatform.

btw any more news on rising is news worth reading to me.

Kojima is MGS and MGS is all by Kojima , Kojima hasnt helped with Rising in any way possible , All MGS series has been directed , formed and produced by Kojima only with no help of any other person .

I dont think that there will be any person who is good at producing any other work replicating KOJIMA's effort .

End of the line

Looking Glass
Looking Glass

Well, the main reason that MGS4 was and will in all likelihood remain a PS3 exclusive is because it was designed specifically for the PS3. Therefore a port would have been very hard to make and would have taken an exceptionally long time. At least a year. Microsoft found this unacceptable so they gave up on MGS4 and settled for a 360 version of Rising instead. With this next game I really don't know how things are going to play out.

Iv been afraid of this to happen , MGS the original game to go MULTI PLATFORM ,
there is a great chance for this game to receive the same treatment the FF received when it went multi platform , being liner , poorly developed , but since Kojima would work to get this game better , IM not afraid

how would ever a single DVD to carry 9 hours of cut-scenes?

and why would we like to have another MGS game? the last one did have a magnification ending with every element of the story line has a definitive ending , so where would the next game fit?

Looking Glass

Personally I would have no objection to another MGS game. But even so one would have to admit that MGS4 did a pretty good job of wrapping things up. I think it's a distinct possibility that a lot of people are concerned that another game in the series could potentially end up becoming what essentially amounts to an MGS equivalent of Bioshock 2 or something.

Jawknee
Jawknee

LOL! I loved Bioshock 2. I liked it more than the first game. I think what ever Kojima can do will be great. He's never let us down before. I can't think of any game I played that he's made that I disliked. There's plenty of holes in the MGS story arch that he can fill with another game. I like the idea above about telling the story of The Boss. They could explore how Naked Snake and Major Zero's relationship deteriorated or they could follow Sunny to see what she's got herself into after the events in MGS4.

Yea im with jawknee on the Bioshock thing. I havnt finished 2 yet but im enjoying it much more than the first.

As for a new MGS. As jawknee atated theirs a lot of information still swirling around te MGS universe. Id appreciate a 5th installment. Even if that meansit doesnt necesarilly answer any more questions. I just want another one! And with Hideo at the helm, its tough to have any doubts about the product. The man is partocular and really loves his games. Gotta have faith in that.

Looking Glass
Looking Glass

Fair enough. Mr. Kojima does have a pretty good reputation. If anyone could pull it off I'm sure he could.

And I'm not saying that Bioshock 2 was a bad game. Just that even if it was good, it still seems to be more or less a totally unnecessary sequel that was made for the sole purpose of making more money and nothing else. And while it didn't do badly in sales it still didn't do as well as 2K had hoped.

It's too bad that Hideo Kojima wasn't working on it.

@Jawknee
Im sure that Kojima will do great , but wouldn't he get limited by the low potentials of the xbox ?
how can he ever fit 9 hours of cut-scenes into the xbox????

by judging the size of MGS4 he need to get that game into more than 6 DVD's

I agree with you and I will be the first to complain if the next console installment ends up on the 360. I hope Kojima would have enough sway over at Komani to at least say "look, I want to focus on the PS3. Im making this for the PS3, when I am done you guys figure out how to get it on the Xbox if you want it to be multiplatform so bad."

I really am sick of the Xbox gimping games and it's only going to get worse as this generation moves forward. The quality of PS3 exclusives makes most multiplatform and even most Xbox exclusives look last generation.

On BioShock 2: although it has a number after it, I wouldn't call it a sequel. It's another story set in that game's world, but the first and second installments don't have much to do with one another. Unless I'm forgetting stuff.

How was Tekken 6 a stinker? It took what was set up in Tekken 5 — the best in the franchise in my opinion (yes, better than 3) — and pushed it to another level.
