After extricating themselves from Microsoft's grip, Halo developer Bungie has been secretly cranking away on a new project.

The current rumor is that their fresh "10-year franchise," set to be published by Activision, is a massively multiplayer online game of some kind. This is due to the studio's call for "hundreds of thousands" of gamers to be involved in the upcoming beta test. But now there's a new development: according to web-surfing sleuth Superannuation , Bungie has placed four new filings with the United States Copyright Office; "New Monarchy," "Dead Orbit," "Osiris," and "Seven Seraphs." All were initially filed last July and they all carry the "Visual Material" indicator, but we can only guess as to what those names mean… The only other fact on the table is that Bungie's title will be multiplatform, as it has been confirmed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. MMOs are hit or miss with the PlayStation crowd and we're still waiting on other promising titles like The Agency but for now, we remain interested in Bungie's project.

"Interested" is as far as we'll go, though…we really know nothing at this point in time.

I really hope there not doing an MMO. I want a great game I don't have to pay for monthly.

An attempt at a multi plat MAG perhaps? All I can say is if it's online focused I'm not too interested, and if it's FPS too I'm not interested at all, and if you add a deal with Activision on top of that I might hate it already.

Absolutely right World.

No interest in online shooters right now. More than enough in the market, don't really need another one.

"Osiris" certainly sounds like an interesting name though. "Dead Orbit" just sounds too similar to Dead Space, I hope Bungie ditches that one.

In fact, I hope Activision kills th FPS online shooter genre soon, those games seem to be flooding the market right now!!

It took 4 years to bring down Guitar Hero, and since we're into our 3rd year of Call of Duty madness, I'm hoping to see a massive CoD recession end of next year.

I wonder how long it will take the masses to realise they can just play their old MW or Black Ops and still have the same amount of fun without having to update to the new one every year?

Unfortunately, I see the end of every year being the same. One guy wants the new CoD, so his mates get the new CoD to play online with him, the a whole buncha others get the new CoD to join them, and the immature little brats laugh at whoever is playing the old CoD from last year.

… makes me wanna sell my copies of CoD and give up on multiplayer with friends altogether. Damn you Activision!!! Yearly installments hurt the industry and gamer's wallets!! Leaves no room for innovation either!!

Well said, World. While I don't entirely feel the same way, I'm pretty much un-interested if it does, in fact, turn out to be a MMO-style game.
I'm also curious if Bungie will be able pull off an entirely new franchise with long term success.

Sell me Black Ops DanceMachine. My friends are begging me to buy it to play it online with them. Even used the piece of crap is like 40 bucks still! And I'd only be buying it for them. Telling them I have quality games I Want to get doesn't seem to be helping ūüôĀ

I agree with you 110% dancemachine55.

I was hoping COD would disappear off the face of the planet after MW2, It was a huge disappointment for me. I love COD4MW so much, it was the only game I played for the longest time.

I still like shooters, but just hate COD. I haven't played a good shooter since COD4MW, I'm needing my fix. I got my eyes locked on Homefront and KZ3. There get my fix.

Interested…? I don't know if that is the right word.
But I guess I'm some what interested, since there hasn't been anything said about it, not even what genre.

Weren't Bungie working on a remake of the original Halo (Combat Evolved) or was that handed over to someone else?

I am interested to see what Bungie do next, i personally loved the Halo series so i am pretty keen to see what they have up their sleeves.

I read rumors about a Halo: CE remake as well. I hope it's true. I really liked the first Halo. I would like to see the new team get comfortable with a remake before tackling the next major Halo game.

I think 343 Studios (or a similar name) does all of the "Halo" stuff now.

Sounds like another sci-fi game. Maybe this time it'll be third person, like Halo was originally intended to be. Actually, I hope it isn't first person, because then I will instantly see the Activision tag and think COD: Bungie. It'll get eaten up by the 360 fans.

I want to see them do something that pushes the boundaries, but I cannot see Activision giving them free reign. The publisher, I feel, will be heavily involved in whatever this project turns out to be, and as such will be more of the same, mediocre, and eventually milked material that we have seen from them before.
Peace.

meh.
i really liked bungie when they were developing for the mac, halo was one of my favorite games still is!
but ever since M$ bought them and sullied halo 2 i have never enjoyed there games.
combat evolved was pure gold, all the rest were meh at best!

Bungie has always been an independent developer. Their thing with MS was a set exclusivity deal, not a buyout, which is why they have since signed on with Activision for the next ten years.

You say you liked Bungie before Halo? Did you ever play Oni, and if so, what were your thoughts? I saw it at the video shop the other day and was thinking of picking it up, but I'd like to gauge fan reaction.

no i have not, halo combat evolved is really the only bungie game i liked.
halo 2 was ok, 3 was crap, ODST was by far the worst in the series and reach was decent.
neither are even half as good as the original was though.
i hope bungie do a new shooter, but none of this alien scifi crap id be interesting to see them do a more realistic shooter but not military.

I used to own Oni, but i'm not sure what i ended up doing with it. It was a decent game and fun to play when i owned it. I wouldn't have expectations high if you do play it though.

It's a mix like Uncharted but you don't climb walls or anything you can run and shoot and punch/kick and do other moves and you can do this one move that you jump on the shoulder of an enemy and break his neck (ouchie) I'm not sure what else is in the game i didn't get far into the game because i think someone either stole it or i lost it when i moved.

Bungie's Marathon for the Mac was the first real FPS multiplayer game I ever played and was a hoot to play.

Oni's graphics are of the Anime type, that remind me of how the Speed Racer cartoons looked.

I hope they don't make a FPS or MMO-FPS. FPS are everywhere right now. If Bungie makes a FPS..by the time it comes out we'll have Killzone 3, Resistance 3, and Uncharted 3. 2 FPS and 1 3rd person is really all you need.

Tired of CoD as well. I only got Black Ops to play with friends. I really hope Bungie brings something completely new to the table. I liked Halo 3, ODST, and Reach so we know what can be done..but we need something different to appeal to the Playstation fan base.

I seriously doubt that it's going to be an MMO. Microsoft has already demonstrated quite effectively that MMOs and the Xbox 360 just don't mix so to speak.

Bungie signed with Activision, the overwhelming odds are it is going to be COD in space.
