Because 2011 is so densely populated with unbelievable games, it might be easy to overlook something like MotorStorm: Apocalypse .

But that would be a huge mistake, especially if you're a racing fan and/or a fan of the series in question. You may require more information before committing to a purchase decision, though, so check out the latest Game Informer update : if you didn't already know, Apocalypse takes place in a busted-up urban environment with plenty of dynamic, destructible action. And yeah, there's a bit of a story, too. "A community of thrill seeking speedsters has decided to spend their last days ripping up the uneven pavement in the midst of the city's chaotic collapse." Evolution has the plot scripted out in the form of comic book-like cut-scenes; you can choose to control one of three characters, each of whom sport a different skill level and must defeat different opponents in different locales. All of the vehicles from past entries in the series will return and they're adding super bikes and muscle cars for extra flavor.

But perhaps the most appealing factor is the chaotic destruction. New natural disasters will rip through the city as you're flying through it, and once the catastrophe takes place, there ain't no going back. This means courses will be changed depending on what happened, and you'll always have to adapt to your surroundings. Lastly, let's not forget about the 3D effects, which are reported to be "subtler" than in other 3D presentations you may have seen. Overall, the game boasts 40 races and new challenge modes, along with 16-player online races and offline split-screen fun. If that's not worth $60…well, what is?

I really like these kinds of games. In fact I can remember way back in the PS1 days dreaming about an arcade racer like this one that had a distinct chaotic action element to it. A now here I am waiting for it to be released. ūüôā
might be a D1P for me.

Changing environments. That alone is something I have wanted to see in off-road games for a long time.

I wonder if this game will be compatible with the wheel I bought for GT5

If the controls are the same as the previous MotorStorms, then a racing wheel won't be an advantage. Turns are often quick, and touch sensitive, not wide and sweeping where radial degrees of turning accuracy would be required…but who knows?

When I first bought the PS3, Motorstorm and VF5 were purchased with it. I got a lot more play value out of Motorstorm than I originally intended. There's something about games that require a person to stay in control of their vehicle while traveling rough terrain that I find appealing, especially when the game looks great. While Motorstorm: PR was a little hit and miss for me, I enjoyed it a lot, overall. This newer Apocalypse game looks like a lot of fun, I suspect it'll deliver and be well worth the time and money.

I played the E3 demo at the Sony Store on a 3D TV. It was unbelievable. The 3d effects were perfectly executed. You're not only racing your opponents, you also have to navigate through collapsing buildings, panicking people, subways… It was pretty cool.

I remember reading or hearing about racing during a tornado, with debris, winds and rain all getting thrown your way. Sounds freakin awesome.

Nice. I'll probably pick this up to expand my 3D content. Been playing GT5 and Star Dust HD in 3D and I love it.

Ultimate Electronics had some great sales this holiday season. I found my 55" 3D TV for a very good price. Cheaper than what I paid for my 52" Samsung LCD TV 2+ years ago.

Is playing 3D such a leap ahead Jawk? How do these games really feel in stereoscopic 3D, would you say it is worth investing now or waiting some more?

Q!

One of the games I am definenly deciding on a day 1 purchase.

I have not seen a racer as chaotic as this.

Wasn't too thrilled with the first too. That feeling of no matter HOW well you played you always had a guy right there on your bumper. Found it to be a little fake. I'll pay attention to the reviews before worrying about whether or not this one is any different.

Reviews don't matter.
Play the demo and THEN decide for yourself.

Did I put "too" instead of "two?"

Anyway, this is not a new IP Scarecrow. My experience with the first two tells me to hold off.

The reviews, that you think don't matter, actually help me to see whether or not "part 3" has made the improvements I want in the game.

The reviews don't matter if there's a demo for the game.
I mean unless you don't understand the purpose of a demo……….

There are are FEW competent reviewers out there.

Love the series because it's real YET it's Arcady. But not Arcady in a dumbed down way, Arcady in a thrilling way.

The authenticity of the vehicle types remains one of the most amazing things about Motorstorm.

You will feel the weight of a big rig, the amazing handling of an ATV, and the stableness of a buggy.

Can't wait to race in these evolving environments. Big rally fan here, this will definitely fit the bill.

Oh, Motorstorm = ps3's best lighting. Maybe only second to Littlebigplanet.

Isn't this set for a March release? I have always been interested in the Motorstorm series, but I've never gotten around to purchasing any of them, and I don't really see that changing here, as much as I would like to. Racers simply aren't that high on my priority list, and with KZ3 in February and SOCOM and Yakuza 4 supposedly in April… We'll see how it all goes.
Peace.

While previous MotorStorms have track deformation, the track routes were static (though depending on the event/challenge and/or vehicle, the routes would change). In M3, the tracks will change depending on certain events (somewhat like Disney's recent racer Split Second), however, these changes will remain persistent throughout the campaign, and will change the routes. For example, you may be racing along the surface fallen building that was previously merely a background asset in the same race or previous races.

I've previously heard the 3D is far more pronounced than other implementations of 3D such as in KZ3, only because Sony Liverpool/Evolution Studios have been Sony's R&D for 3D for a while now and since inception.

Ben's article mentions it as more "subtle", so they may have scaled back the 3D from when I heard of it (which was earlier last year).

This game really is a revolutionary racer, and fans of Road Rash, and previous MotorStorms should be elated. I know I am.

so cant wait for this!
i just hope they improve on the 3D effects over motorstorm 3D rift.
its got by far the best 3D effects so far, but its still not really that noticeable.
you get a little smoke and dirt sort of leaking out the TV, but you dont get the fast in your face movement i was expecting.
plus thats all you really get, a little smoke and dirt i was expecting bits of car to come flying at ya.
like a few times i slammed into a wall, sparks came flying out but they were not in 3D, and a bumper flew off but nor was that in 3D.
whats the point of playing games in 3D if all your going to get is a little smoke?
i can get plenty of smoke poring out of my TV without the need of glasses thank you very much!
