It was leaked by various retail outlets late last year but now, it's official.

If you check the PlayStation Blog , you will see the box art and initial info for the anticipated Tomb Raider Trilogy . First, they remind you of the new Tomb Raider project in development at Crystal Dynamics, and the "new direction" they're taking (so like, a Lara Croft shooter, or something?). Then they get to the Trilogy details: the box includes remastered HD versions of Anniversary and Legend , along with the final chapter, Underworld . The latter was on the PS3 in HD, so it's basically just the same. Plus, the collection will feature an exclusive static theme pack, Lara Croft and Viking Thrall avatars for PlayStation Home, and some behind-the-scenes trailers for each of the three titles in question. The Tomb Raider Trilogy will arrive on March 22 for the expected retail price of $39.99.  That's only about $14 per game including tax.

So, will you be picking this one up? Maybe it'll prep you for the big new title, or maybe you just never got a chance to play the past installments.

Maybe, maybe not. I hope the new tomb raider ads aren't just the cutscenes. We'll see.

I for one am excited about the new TR. For what I read on GameInformer, it does not look like it will be a straight out shooter, might be a bit more like Uncharted than any past TR games. The graphics are looking really good and the game play I read about sounds very different from past TR games, at least the intro part they played at GI…
As for the Trilogy, I'm itching to get it but, I did play and beat all those games and might as well save my money for the ICO/SOTC collection…

I know, right? Hasn't every new TR game that has come out in the past 10 years supposed to have been a "new direction"?

At least they SAY they're trying.

I was tempted by this, Underworld looked really good, but then it gets unbelievably silly near the end which is a shame.

I dunno about this. I really enjoyed TR Underworld, especially the mythology and such about it, and I even thought it looked REALLY good.

But after I finished it, I played the first Uncharted. The sheer difference in terms of graphics and polished gameplay made me not want to touch Underworld again, even though I want to since they've patched it with trophies since I first played it. But man, the difference between a multiplat game and an exclusive, and the argument therein, can really be won by just comparing those two games.

Lara was friggin hot in Underworld. But if you already have one of these games, this pack doesn't sound worth it. Not YET anyway…

I think it's a shame they're making reboot Lara to be just another TPS, Tomb Raider all about the Puzzles and landscapes, the combat was a side issue really IMO.

It seems like shooters are taking over every genre like a virus, RPG's (Mass Effect), Puzzlers, I'm putting dibs on once Twisited Metal is released No racing games with will do without Guns, That'll be a change to GT6 😉

Hi Ultima, not meaning to be confrontational but, were did you see anything about it being just a TPS?
I got the GI magazine with the article about the game and the feeling I got was something more like "Out of This World" and "Uncharted". Something about atmosphere and gameplay elements described in the play test they did got me really excited about this reboot… Is there any footage of actual gameplay around that we can look at?
Peace.

I have yet to find any, But yes i have heard it is going to be more like Uncharted, which is a thirs person shooter, Dont get me wrong i love Uncharted as much as the next guy, and possibly even the guy next to him. But it's just not how i see Tomb Raider and if im honest, i'm sick of every game nowadays using the over the shoulder camera.

I see, it would be nice if TR would veer more to the side of adventure and less to the shooter side, on that I agree with you. Still my feeling is that it will be more of an adventure game in the vein of Beyond Good and Evil or something… Well one can dream 🙂

I think I may have to get this, haven't played any of the recent Tomb raiders.

I would definitely recommend it under those circumstances. You could probably find the three games for less total money, but not much less, and you get them all in one package (one disc?) and in HD and with trophies.

Personally, I have two of them and plan to get the third, so I doubt I'll spring for the trilogy.

I'm cited to see how the new TR turns out, I bought Anniversary for my PSP and it reminded me of why TR went downhill. Basically the shooting was more of an afterthought compared to all the climbing and swinging. Uncharted makes a definite point of focusing on the gun battles just as much as the climbing and puzzle solving so it's more balanced. In TR I just get frustrated from hours of climbing about with just a couple wolves to shoot at.

The only thing I'm leery of is the open world supposedly showing up in the reboot. We'll see though.

Passing on this trilogy though, an HD remastered version of I-III would have been better.

Hey World, if its any consolation "Aniverssary" is just TR1 remade in HD. It looks really great on the PS2 and I beleive it will look much better in HD since they are using the the version that released for the X360 way back… I played it on my PS2 and can tell you its a great way to replay the first one, it makes you appreciate the level design quality of the original title. Also they have added new things and gameplay mechanics so, it feels fresh and familiar at the same time. all in all, it was a great way to bring a old classic back to life.

That's why I bought it, TR1 on the Legend engine was a must buy for me.

I can only imagine if they remade TR2 the same way 🙂

World,

That's what I liked about the recent TR games…less shooting, more puzzle/platforming.

The mansions were my favorite parts.

Sweet. Glad to see this releasing soon. I'm not really interested since I already have the games on Steam but still, this is great. I hope more developers see the success of these collections and start releasing their own collections *crosses fingers for Ratchet & Clank, Jak and Daxter, Metal Gear Solid, and Kingdom Hearts collections*

Eh, i think the price is a lil too much, I'll probably get it when the price drops to $20.00.

It's tempting. I really enjoyed playing Guardian of Light, my first venture in to Tomb Raider. I was busy logging in hundreds of hours with Final Fantasy when there games came out.

Maybe it's time to take a look.

Here's one more game in 2011 that I want now. The list is never ending.

I never got into this series, but now I can and get rewarded with nice updated HD graphics and the addition of trophies at the same time.

With Dragon Age II and Killzone 3 coming out earlier in the month, I think I'll already have my hands full. I will have to pass on this one.

hmmm, I'm not sure on this. I want it, but don't no if it'll ever get to it with the endless amount of games this year. I really don't want to say this but I hope 2012 is half as good as this year, Because all these game this year can keep me busy for a long, long while especially now GT5 is in my collection.
