Red Dead Redemption was a massive game with massive appeal. Easily one of last year's best, it garnered a huge following and that huge following has only one question: "when are we gonna hear about a sequel?"

Well, after the rip-roaring success of Rockstar's latest epic open-world adventure, it seems very unlikely we wouldn't see another installment. And although they're not talking about it right now (we imagine they're knee-deep in development on Grand Theft Auto V ), they do drop a little hint that tells gamers the team is always thinking about new stuff. In speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine (as cited by CVG ), Rockstar VP of product development, Jeronimo Barrera, first says they're quite pleased with how RDR has been received, and that such a reception has proven gamers want a "game about the wild west." Then, when asked if they had any material left after editing and tossing out potentially good ideas, Berrera said:

"For all the games we work on, we have a massive number of ideas that [don't] make it in."

So maybe they could find a place in a sequel…? Although we remain mostly confident that Rockstar will eventually start toiling away on a follow-up to the gripping Western tale we had all been waiting for, no such project has been confirmed. But in the meantime, what ideas do you have for RDR2? What improvements or alterations would you make?

Ugh i hope it wont have a load of DLC content, it's completely off putting, that zombie DLC was a pure cash in. It's the same with Fallout 3, i bought the special edition when it first came out and then all that DLC came out too, The same is happening to New Vegas, so i refuse to buy it.

I gotta agree. Not worth the extra cash. I bought the retail version and it came with all the DLC packs. Most of that stuff should have been included in the game in the first place. The MP was a complete joke and R* pretty much lied in their ads about what they were going to give us upon release then released it as DLC instead.

I thought the single player was fun and mostly worth the $60 so I can't complain too much, but I'm not sure I'd buy a sequel. The game got massively boring and repetitive about 3/4ths of the way through. I couldn't wait for it to end.

I have yet to play Red Dead, But your comment remeinded me instantly of how i felt about GTA. once i got to the third island the repetition kicked in and i just did not find exploring the enviroment as fun as previous games. Now i'm put off more than ever with the addition of downloadable (or as i like to call 'missing) content.

It's a much better game than GTA. There's a lot of stuff to laugh at, like the the bugs. But in the end, it just got suooooooo boring. I think I'll be sticking with inFamous for my open world needs. ūüėČ

The DLC for New Vegas is only on 360 for now, big surprise huh? But I don't mind because it reviewed poorly and I've learned that Bethesda DLC isn't really worth it.

@Jawknee.
I just finished Infamous this morning and I agree with you about how it's basically the only open world game that doesn't get repetitive. The only problem I had with it is that you didn't get the lightning storm till so late in the game because that was some major bad assery.

As far as the environment & climates are concerned i'm not too sure how much further they could add to that aspect. They had desert, forest & snow pretty much covered with a solid amount of livestock within those areas too.

I'm personally more keen on how GTAV is going to turn out. I wonder if country & desert backdrops are going to be in this time around like San Andreas?

Regardless, RDR2, GTAV? Both should be epic.

Except for all the delays and the unfortunate table tennis game, Rockstar is killing it this gen. I really wish they wouldnt talk about a new Red Dead until they nail down a REAL release date for Max Payne.

RDR really surprised me with how great it was, and that's despite having the usual high expectations that come along with anticipating a Rockstar game.

I can't wait to see whatever it is they come up with in the way of new characters and story.

Thanks to RDR, I have even higher expectations for the next GTA.

RDR blew the western theme wide open for video games. Rockstar obviously spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours getting it just right because they knew they were treading not only unfamiliar, but dangerous grounds. Very few devs have this kind of ability. It's no wonder they have tons of ideas left over. They are leaders in this industry.

Totally agree. I picked it up on release day, but didn't really start playing it until now — hard drive issues from the summer, etc. — and it's become my new obsession.

…trying to knife cougars was hilariously fun… heh.

I'm not too sure we'd see a sequel to RDR to be honest. After beating Red Dead Revolver I waited forever for a sequel. Instead got a new installment in Redemption after all this waiting. I doubt we see a sequel but probably a new character, world, etc.

I can wait for a new RDR but I would want to see/have GTA V before that. Even then GTA will need to bring something new to the table..

Red Dead Revelation. Oh yes. But, I hope they take a long time in the making so that I can forget how bored Redemption made me as I got closer to the end. I want to see GTA: Next, Agent and a new Midnight Club, long before we go back to the Wild West.
Peace.

I think they should come up with a Canadian version and call it RDM (Red Dead Mountie) If you don't think it's a good fit, go look up a picture of a Royal Canadian Mounted Police uniform, especially from that timeline..They're all Red!!! It's a perfect fit!….

Although I guess it would be kind of a boring story from a Canadian History point of view….I can just picture the dialogue….

"Freeze, eh? and Drop that Beaver….No, You can keep the Beer and Maple syrup…Okay, Thanks, eh?"

Now there's something I'd like to see also, but I don't think it will happen until the next console generation at least. Also, twenty in-game days would be enough for a season IMO.

I had a conversation with a friend last night about something similar. I remembered a Sonic the Hedgehog game from the Dreamcast that was somehow synced to the DC's internal clock that changed some graphics and visuals for the games at certain times of the year. Like around Christmas time, there was snow and Christmas trees and such.

Now, I could be remembering wrong, but I thought it was a cool idea then, and I think it'd be a cool idea now.

That, and a GTA/RDR option for the game to run in real time, with the disc running in sync with your PS3's internal clock and timezone.

Dunno if it'd work, but it'd be kinda neat. For someone like me, anyway.

RDR is for sure a quality game, and perhaps some day I will finish it. My idea for the next one is to ditch the need to make camp in order to fast travel. I'm no twitcher but man it gets boring when it takes a half hour to ride to your next destination only to find a mission that is identical to six others you already did. An RDR2 would have to be a bargain buy for me.

But wait. The Official Playstation Magazine had Rockstar on the line and didn't ask a single effing question about Agent? What kind of crap is that? They haven't got past the title screen in a year?

Lawless SXE
Lawless SXE

I'm not understanding your complaint World… it wasn't difficult to set up camp if you wanted to fast travel. That being the case, why did you feel the need to ride for half an hour to get anywhere?

MadPowerBomber
MadPowerBomber

Haha, I know what you mean. There were so many times — pre-hard drive crash — when I forgot you could set up camp and fast travel, or take a stagecoach… and I'd fall asleep riding my horse from one town to another.

It was either that, or get completely side tracked shooting every animal that crossed my path.

I believe the reason why the had to cut out, or couldn't proceed with all those ideas is because they wouldn't have been able to fit everything onto a 8.7 GB DVD – thanks a lot Xbox!

So Rockstar has a lot of ideas about any game they working on, and not all of the ideas make it into the final product. No real surprise there. It's just a byproduct of the creative process. Maybe we'll see some of these ideas in the form of DLC, if we haven't already. ūüėČ

If it was a Ps3 exclusive all those ideas & more would of made it.

I have a question for the fans of Red Dead Redemption:

If there was a sequel, would you want to play as a new/different character or would you want the Marsten story to continue?

Any new ideas for the story of the sequel?

Plus, what new aspects would you want to see in a sequel?

R* doesn't really use the same characters in their sequels. I've always liked that about them. Keeps it fresh.

I would love to continue Johns story. He grew on me as a character. More so then any GTA one did. AS for gameplay improvements here is my list.

Upgrade and run the ranch. (micromanage the homestead. Buying horses, selling crops and so forth would be a massive timesink for the hardcore gamer.)
Bigger world (The world of RDR was massive but left no surprises. I want hidden villages. Interaction with the Indians, riverboat rides and fishing spots. Would it not be great to discover a deserted town or village when hunting only to find surprise quests within.)
More weapons. (Bigger guns with mods.) enough said

BTW I'd like R* to intertwine a new character like in the Episodes Of Liberty City. Doesn't have to be in the same timeline.

Spoiler:

When I asked if players wanted the Marsten story to continue I was referring to Jack Marsten, John's son, so I didn't spoil it for people who havn't played the game yet.

If you don't know already, the player is able to play as Jack after John dies.

**Potential Spoilers**

I definitely feel that John's story was finished by the time the end of the game rolled around, and as such there is no need to continue it. At no point did I feel inclined to find out what sort of a life Jack had, so I'd prefer an all new character, and a new setting. Imagine an Old West game set outside the Old West, and instead somewhere like… I'm not good with American geography OR history, so… Connecticut?

Nah… Red Dead Revelations is good.
Peace.

Well, I will definitely be picking up the sequal when it is released, sometime in the future. GTAV is also a must… these are day one buys for me…

id love to see a new red dead game.
not a spin off or DLC like red dead nightmare, but a whole new game like RDR.
hopefully now they have the engine in place it wont take them 5 bloody years to make it!
just one thing.
please, for the love of god put in some missions that are actually fun!
i really, really want to finish the game so i can see what happens, i hear its got one of the best endings in a game ever!
but i cant force myself to do it because the missions are so god dam boring!
just like GTAIV Oprah is more entertaining than the missions in those games!
taxi driver galore, go pick this guy up take him here, go find this, go find that.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lawless SXE

They kind of had the engine in place extremely early on in production. After all, it uses the same engine as GTA IV, MCLA and R* presents Table Tennis. It just required some modification to get the hills and all that just right, and then they didn't even get the physics for the animals in until a couple of months prior to release.

Also, I think Red Dead is going to be R*'s "serious" series, so I don't expect to see too many off-the-wall missions.
Peace.

yes the engine was already in place but they had to build the whole world which would of taken ages!
its freaking huge!
i just wish R* would stop with these boring as bat sh*t taxi driver missions!
they create the most technology advanced games out there, but my god are they boring!
when a guys saying he would rather watch than play a R* game you know theres something seriously wrong!
thats how boring R* games are!
worse than watching paint dry!!!!
