There are going to be a lot of Dead Space 2 fans out there, and that's primarily because there were a lot of Dead Space fans. Simple math.

And if you were one of many who played and enjoyed the first title – and you hold on to your gaming history – you'll get a special bonus when you pick up the highly anticipated sequel in a few weeks time. Thanks to a reader, we've learned about developer Visceral's plan to include the original Plasma Cutter for those who still have a save file from the first game. So said studio member Louis Gascoigne on his Twitter page :

"gamespot report about carry over of Plasma Cutter in #deadspace2 @deadspace http://tinyurl.com/25mtt5j [you just need any save not comp.]"

Unfortunately, while you'll get the gun, you won't get back any of the upgrades you put into it. Well, that's okay, 'cuz Isaac will have plenty of handy-dandy new weapons to help with his phase two ass-kicking. The demo is currently available to download and we've issued our thoughts on the experience …big surprise that we came away all sorts of happy and satisfied. Can you believe that we're already going to have two legitimate Game of the Year contenders for 2011 in January ? The only question left is- will you have time for both LittleBigPlanet 2 and Dead Space 2 ?

I saw this earlier. Looks like I'm gonna have to start playing DS1. I had it on my 360 but since that is gone I bought it again for my PS3.

What happened to the poor machine?

Oh I traded it in. After about a year with the PS3 I realized it was the only system I needed. I was a hardcore 360 supporter. Hell my gamerscore was over 110,000 when I quit playing it. I even still had 7 months of Live left but just didn't care anymore.

Understandable, at least it didn't die like so many others.

Sorry I didn't mention that it was my sixth one. I had my first 1 on day one and it broke within 6 months. Not one of them lasted over a year except for the last one.

Damn just realized I posted twice earlier. Just not my day. Can't get names right and can't post right. lol

That's why I don't have one. I would love to play a couple games like Alan Wake and Lost Odyssey, but I can't risk the damned machine exploding. And the new unit doesn't give me a lot of confidence. My old fat PS3 has never failed me.

Awesome!!!

By far my favourite horror title of this gen. I only hope the action factor doesn't outdo the terror factor, or else we'll end up with another Res Evil 5. Such a letdown after the awesomeness of Res Evil 4.

And yes, I have preordered both LBP 2 and Dead Space 2. My January gaming is set.

That's sweet, still have my save. I have the DS2 demo but I have yet to play it. Guess I better get on that. It was this site that convinced me to get DS1 and it's totally worth it.

Even more incentive to play back through the original before the second launches. I usually do it anyway, but what a surprise goodie. On the other hand, this obviously means that the DS2 Plasma Cutter is different to the one in the original, and I would like to know in what ways.

And is there not at least one GotY contender for each month this year? 'Tis good to be a gamer I tells ya.
Peace.

I deleted a lot of my older files & saves when I was trying to get back a few extra GB's, DS included.

So after I swap out my HD with a bigger one soon, I'll reinstall DS to get some new saves in.

that should do it, the message seems to say your save doesn't need to be a completed game.

I have the first one on PC and PS3. It was just so good I bought two copies so no matter which machine was being used, I could still play it lol. Downloaded the demo for part 2 but haven't played it yet. Also waiting to watch the movie for the second one before I dive into the game.

Dead Space. The way survival horror is supposed to be done. Resident Evil, you would do well to take notes.

Yep, and part 2. And Steam even has the first one on sale right now for $7.

There is a difference? because it seemed the same to me in the demo, or is it just a little cosmetic difference

I'm actually glad to read that. I hope all the core stuff is the same, it doesn't need much tweaking at all. New suit, new story, new critters, new weapons and I'm good to go.

Yeah, what is the DIFFERENCE? It felt the same in the demo.

dam, i was hoping you would get to carry over your content like what ME2 lets you do.
i got the plat for the first one, so i wanted to bring all my upgraded weapons and suit through.
oh well, one thing i wish they would do though is release extraction earlier.
its just stupid releasing it at the same time as DS2, i dont have enough time to play that, let alone extraction!

I like to be the one with the tentacles you can climb the ceilings and shoot his barbs just like he did in the first one. I cant believe I got 15 platinums and i work alot. Anybody want to add me my psn name is slapahoe08.

Yay! The 25th is going to be a good birthday for me. I pre-ordered the collectors edition and I just have another $25 to pay it off. I'm been playing the first one and I'm going to try and get the platinum before the second game comes out.

Yes, DS1 IS an outstanding game. I bought it 6 months ago on the cheap and never had a chance to play with all the other games I was playing at the time. Well, I started playing it 4 days ago and I am hooked. This is the best survival/horror game of this gen. System Shock 2 being the best of past gen. But this out does SS2 in a lot of areas. I am on Chapter 6 and loving it. I don't know what it is but it's the complete package of story, graphics, sound and gameplay. It really gels and the control is outstanding as well. So far the hardest part for me was the ADS cannons! That was so hard! I figure it out though and didn't miss any of the big asteroids and passed it at 20%. I will never get the trophy! DS2 is now my day 1 purchase as Mass Effect 2 has been moved into February. But then Killzone 3 comes out so it may get pushed to March/April. What a year of PS3 gaming!!

I agree. System Shock 2 was fantastic and still a great play today. A definitive classic.

And the two Crusader games were fun also 🙂

Yes, SS2 is great with the texture/model enhancement. Yeah, Crusader is my favorite character. I wish they would resurrect that universe. The WEC needs another beating! 🙂

It would be nice if No Mercy would ever come out. It was supposed to be at least a five game series 🙁

And have you ever added the System Shock Rebirth mod to SS2? Updates the game to more modern character models and really nice looking models at that.

CrusaderForever

Yes, I know it's awesome. That is what I was referring to. They did a nice job. Even though I would love to an SS2 remake verbatim, well almost. I know Bioshock 1 and 2 are spiritual successors along with Infinite but not really in my mind. I want to see SS3 with SS2 HD included for free! HD is not enough though, need the remake to use SS3 engine with state of the art models and textures! 🙂 Now that would be a nice PS3 package. I would pay $50 for a SS2 HD, easy!

I hope that doesn't mean you can just plow through this game with that weapon aswell, that was my one gripe with DS1, the plasma cutter was brilliant, too brilliant, while the rest of the weapons are terrible.

The flamethrower was underpowered. The Plasma Riffle was just… useless. The was another bigger version of the plasma cutter( cant remember the name), and then the sawblade weapon which wasnt to bad.

"The was another bigger version of the plasma cutter( cant remember the name)"

It was the Line Cutter, and it was much more over powered than the Plasma Cutter. The Plasma Cutter is obviously the best weapon, but with the Line Cutter, you just blindly shoot and obliterate everything in your path.

I'm excited although I don't know what this means.

Is it different from the one from the demo, or…?

I'd like to see more game save continuity in video games, though — as a side note. I think it's a neat thing to do, like when Psycho Mantis started rambling on about Castlevania in MGS.

Why stop it at the OG Plasma Cutter? Why not, if you finished the game for instance, you get to start out in the military suit from the first one? I loved that suit. Or maybe even all the upgrades from the first one, but somehow make them meaningless, or work the loss of those weapons into the fiction, like God of War did. I dunno.

I thought about getting an Xbox 360 once for Mass Effect 1 & 2 'cause I'm curious about the series and I like that crossover/legacy appeal of it, but I can't bring myself to do it. But I think it's something a lot of developers are skipping over that can add to the experience of a game as no two gamers really finish a single game the same way, y'know?
