Massive Entertainment Cranking On Assassin’s Creed Title?

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was yet another stellar entry in Ubisoft's franchise, and we all know yet another title is on the way.

The publisher wants it to release towards the end of 2011 – thereby turning AC into an annual phenomenon like Call of Duty and Madden – although it hasn't been confirmed. However, we're fairly certain that's in development with Ubisoft's premier internal staff, which is why Massive Entertainment's project has to be something quite new. Joystiq spotted a recent Tweet from Massive, which states that the Swedish studio is "teaming up on a project for Assassin's Creed." They might be referring to the new 3DS installment, Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy , and recent job listings at Ubisoft suggest Massive is currently toiling away on an MMORPG of some kind. Could we be talking about an AC MMO…? Or are they looking to branch out and try something new in the AC universe? Well, regardless of what it is, we're interested; this is one series that will always have our interest.

We expect to hear an official announcement some time soon, so stay tuned for the info.

I really do not like the direction of this; and especially the yearly release.

It CAN be dangerous for a franchise to grow too quickly.

Ruh roh, the last portable entry didn't go over too well. In any case I hope they use that money to make something special out of Beyond Good and Evil 2.

I thought that BG&E2 had been cancelled, or put on hold or something…

It was on hold but last I heard it was "moving forward" or some such.

AC has MMO potential. It can be pulled off. Question is… will it actually take off. But that its just wishful thinking. I am about 70% confident they will. The other 30 goes to the milkman!

It'd be a good idea to keep your hopes low, a yearly release and the departure of the creative director(forgot his name).

And I wanna ask how is Madden count as an annual phenomenon like CoD when it's a sport game.

Lawless SXE
Lawless SXE

It releases annually, and although it isn't as big as once it was, it still has decent sales. Just because it's a sports game doesn't disqualify it from being a phenomenon.

Assassin's Creed MMO? It could work. At the same time, I don't really see how they could expand on what was offered in Brotherhood, and keep it core AC. It just doesn't seem like the right kind of game to take into that market.

Perhaps another portable game, or another spin-off title would fit, but an MMO… No. WoW still has that niche firmly wrapped up.
Peace.

… except that WoW is not avaiable on PS3. We want a ps3 mmorpg!

… Preferably with a sci-fi theme. 🙂

C'mon, give us time to relish our games. I haven't even picked up yet AC2, so for continuity's sake I can't jump onto the AC bandwagon yet. And I've so many new games now (I've barely grazed the surface of GT5 coz honestly CoD:BO Zombies got me the previous weeks, and I see myself getting addicted to MAG in the coming weeks.)

And as I mentioned, sandbox games aren't really top of my priorities..

The most popular franchises all have yearly releases so why wouldn't AC?

Hopefully they're not going the MMO route though. That's just nonsense.

Multiplayer seems to be melting into every genre. No one is safe. Its a sign of the times.

this series is the tragedy of the industry!
just goes to show why gaming should of stayed in the not so popular department.
AC came out with years of hard work put into it, was ok, kinda repetitive but sold like hotcakes.
so ubisoft puts even more work into AC2 and it sells even better!
so they say ok, everyone likes this so lets see what happens when we do bugger all, release a crap game.
o, lookey here it sold like hotcakes and we did not even have to lift a finger!
so, surprise, surprise guess what there doing for the next one?
R.I.P assassins creed!
what was my favorite series, has now turned into sh*t!
thank you ubisoft, thank you for turning my favorite new IP to heartbroken memories!
how it hurts to see something you enjoyed so much, desecrated and so quickly!
and they call Stephen Spielberg a murderer!

…when you see clouds in the sky, do you hide in a bunker, horde food, and call up random people to scream about the apocalypse?

Switch to decaf or something.

So Ubisoft is trying to maximise their profit margin by offering more titles from their best-selling franchise. Is that really so wrong? At least the quality is still high, and it is still a fairly unique series. I think, provided they can keep the story compelling and the gameplay improvements continuing, that it still has plenty of legs. I would like to see the releases more spread out, but to call it 'the tragedy of the industry' is a bit of an overstatement.
Peace.

I gotta say, I felt that way about the new Star Wars movies. But Assassin's Creed? Good gaming is passing you by buddy.

actually no, because i never see clouds here.
hows a man suppose to react when he sees his favorite series turn to sh*t?
AC2 was so much fun, had production values through the roof, was polished so well it had less bugs than uncharted 2! had varied gameplay, had the best story ive ever seen in a game, balanced difficulty, really made you care about the characters.

ACB did neither of those.
ACB was boring as bat sh*t simply because 1 it was repetitive, the first mission is the same as the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th ect ect and 2 everything was a stealth mission, since when was assassins creed splinter cell?
ACB was so buggy as i have said many times almost every single mission glitched on me so it either inhibited me from progressing, or it just plain froze my ps3.
the story was sooooooooooooooo plain!
the whole game was about regaining the apple which you stupidly lost, and why do i have to regain my dual blades and everything i spent hours gaining in AC2?
i really could not care less about the characters in ACB, when ezios family got executed it really effected me, i felt like i had to get revenge, especially on the traitor that betrayed you.
but did i care about anyone who died in ACB?
nope!
im sorry, but ACB is one of the biggest disappointments of the generation!
had such massivley high hopes for it, i thought it would of been as much a leap forward as AC2 but it was not even close!
AC2 was 10 steps forward 0 steps back, ACB was 1 step forward 100 steps back!
ACB improved more or less nothing, but than made almost everything worse!

all ubisoft had to do was add a decent compelling story to follow on AC2s.
i mean AC2 ends with minerva appearing to desmond and explaining about the end of the world, those temples.
so why dont you see them in ACB till the end, then when you finally do its only gibberish!
the whole point of a sequel is to improve on a series, if your not going to add anything new than you need to at least improve things.
thats all ubisoft needed to do, if they just took AC2 added a new story and added new missions it would of been GOTY contender.
but no thats too hard, there much happier not lifting a finger and it being DOTC contender!

ubisoft are worse than antivision this gen, there laziness and greediness first showed off in there PC games and now its poisoning there console games too.
one things for sure, ACB will certainly be the last ubisoft game i ever purchase!

Umm……..yeah. Anyway, Brotherhood improved everything that made AC2 great. Bring on AC3 or ACMMORPG or whatever you got. Its gonna suck to leave Italy though….

May be interesting since Massive was strictly a PC developer. As much as I loved World in Conflict, I'll keep an eye on whatever they're developing for now. Though they are currently making a war game of some sort right now as well.

What is Ubisoft's problem? why can't they conclude the story normally instead of running it into the ground…!? if they want to turn AC into ACA (annual), I'm not even going to bother playing 'Brotherhood.' What's the point playing a game with no end…?

AugustoDeItalia

they should focus on the main story first, after this im sure AC could be the subject of various ways to modify the gameplay. the idea of an MMO is great but, not now. I want to see the end of the story !!!

Do you really believe that massive would be making an mmo Ben? hardly and if it's anything it's a spinoff to the famous world in conflict rts that massive is working on, you know the game that ubisoft cancelled when they purchased massive ent.
