Mega Ran Rap Pays Tribute To One Of Gaming’s Best

Aeris (or Aerith) is one of the most beloved characters in video game history, so any homage to her is well worth our attention.

Game Informer was recently turned onto a new rap by Mega Ran, who just released his song and a corresponding video, which you can see below. It outlines how Cloud came to meet Aeris and why the fans love her so much. I'm really not a rap fan at all but this is so cool and makes me want to play FFVII again…

Well, I don't have time to play FFVII right now but I can certainly watch Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children , can't I? Every time something like this happens, I'm convinced that Square-Enix turns a blind eye to the FFVII fan gushing, and keeps telling themselves, "a remake would never work, a remake would never work, a remake would never work…"

Yeah, well if you want to pull your company out of its current tailspin (92% drop in profits in the last fiscal year), maybe you should move past the freakin' denial stage.

Thanks to BikerSaint!

I love AMVs, this is solid. The shadow of Aeris death falls on Square Enix as they abandon the true path and yet they still won't budge.

That was awesome – and I really hate rap. Still….

Thing is, it's kind of how I feel. Everythings going great in FFVII and then Aeris is gone. Kind of fitting that the rap finishes at that point too, and then we are left with poignant music and a montage of Aeris.

I'd play the game again, except I know I won't play past that point, and I'll hate the game again at that point too. So, I think I'll skip. Perhaps Xenosaga needs a play-through…Another pretty, vulnerable, girl with green eyes and long brown hair in a braid…

Dude you surmised exactly how I feel about FFVII.

Great game, objectively it's amongst the best games ever.

Yet after Aeris dies it's just not the same. For some of us Aeris was the light……she was what made the game fun and interesting.

Tifa could never replace her imo. It's such a sad moment in the game, Cloud goes into a deep depression and it's just weird past that point. Still solid and all but man I know how you feel.

This really makes me want to play FFVII again but I know I'll feel that way too.

The song/vid was great, brought back great memories of playing FFVII, specially when Aeris was around.

By the way, I never played Crisis Core, is it true that Zack was Aeris' true love interest? I mean even if true Cloud kinda became her new love interest either way, no? Pardon me, I'm a sucker for romance lol.

Highlander: Yeah but with the ending being what it is, there is much reason to press on.

Scarecrow: Zack was her first love. Crisis Core really hit me hard because it was a lot like my own life you get so close and then pow, near miss. We all know what happened to Zack.

@World,
Ah, interesting. Man her life was rough…

Anyway as far as "there is reason to press on" goes; well you see that's the part I THINK Highlander and I disagree on lol. The journey is just as, if not, more important than the goal. The journey without Aeris is a bit sad, and just doesn't feel right at times.

This is mostly subjective though, some attach themselves to other characters like Caith Cith, Cid, etc. and are able to enjoy the rest of the journey. But for some of us Aeris was the defining factor in the story/feel of the game.

I actually agree, the game becomes very sad after that and you wonder many times why you should go on. Then you get into all the wild psychological problems Cloud has but then I'd think of Sephiroth and how my need for vengeance burned.

@Worlds

The game becomes too sad for me. Aeris death is such a sudden, shocking thing, with no way to avoid it. I don't really like playing sad games. I don't mind deep and meaningful story, but Aeris…her death was unnecessary – IMHO. It was one of those things that just happens out of the blue, and leaves you feeling empty. For me, it ripped the heart from the game. I hadn't anticipated (when firs playing FFVII on the PS1) a main character being lost, and certainly not that one.

The best part about FFVII was how incredible and relieved I felt to kill Sephiroth.

As for me, I think with all the sequel/prequels to FFVII, I became attached to most of the characters. But the ones I became most attached to were Vincent and Tifa. (Of course, this was after Aerith's death)

@World
Crisis Core tore me up, man. Knowing what happens to Zack makes every incident in that game 10x more poignant.

It was very sad but for my part, I became more pissed than sad. Because of what Sephiroth did to Aeris, I've never wanted someone to die more…

I think that's one of the biggest reasons Sephiroth is considered the greatest villain in gaming: because he wanted to destroy the world and you get to watch him destroy one of the best parts of the world…he just had to go down after that. 🙂

I understand the feeling, I really do, and killing Sephiroth would definitely sate a certain desire for revenge. But, the problem is that FFVII was my first real taste of JRPGs and the first one where a main character was lost. It left an indelible mark.

I totally get what you're saying, by the end of Xenosaga 3 apart from wanting to slap some sense into Shion, I was more than ready to tear Kevin limb from limb.

I think her death tho was the one big reason that game stood out so much, why FF7 is one of the greatest games of all time. Someone we all loved and cared for died and it gave us all a very real emotional response.

It was sad, but without her death, a lot of the game would have lost meaning and I think many people would remember it as just another good rpg.

The only thing you are off about Highlander is that in fact her death was very necessary. I dunno if you ever did see the end, but that shows why.

@Worlds, I'm aware of the reasons that come out in the story after her passing, but at the time I first played it,m I didn't know any of that and it just seemed plain wrong.

Hello psxe fam. I hope all is well with all of you. The video and music was great and could be appreciated by all fans of this title. In the world of rpg's today, the genre almost seems oversaturated and unoriginal in a sense. The replay value and deep story that you could connect with genuinely, just isn't there anymore. Everything seems to be about shock value nowadays(hence, call of duty)**prepares for backlash**. But yea, some remakes would not only rejuvenate the genre, but also show gamers the full potential in which the genre could reach. I agree with b-dut, (bdutka), getting pass the stage of denial is always the first step.

i honestly dont want any FF remakes, i dont want any FF games at all!
simply because i know whats going to happen.
the same thing that happened with GTAIV and FFXIII.
i get so excited for them, than they disappoint me so much it feels like ive been smashed in the balls!

They could put Aerith's face on a napkin, and I would call it the greatest thing ever. And I wouldn't be alone.

Just sayin'. ^.^

that dude done a great job on this! makes me wanna play the game all over again. the music bought back bulk memories of being a younger lad.

It's a shame that there will never be another final fantasy (or any other RPG for that matter) that will be as much an emotional ride as this game….

Who played the ME2 demo? The graphics are ugly to me.

Gameplay still meh, but I expected that ME1 was just good for the history gameplay was boring.

NICE!! There's a reason why the back of the CD case had the words: "Quite possible the greatest game ever made." written on it. People making rap songs about it; this only further proves how badly everyone wants this game to be come back.

Most people who hate "rap" hate it because they've never heard the real thing. They think Hip-Hop sounds like what's playing on the radio.

Far from it.

I dare anyone to listen to Atmosphere's 'When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That S*it Gold!' and not dig it.

seriously, a game that spawns so much love and passion and SE still does not hear us? forget a remake in HD, I want a continuance and I want aerith back. I don't really care enough about lightning to get a sequel where she gets a happy ending, aerith and cloud deserve that honor! bring back the entire cast in a new adventure and an update on materia, that I deserve!!!
