Atari Delivering Venetica To US Shores

We always say we don't get enough RPGs here in North America. Well, at least Atari is going to help us out.

The publisher has announced that they will bring Venetica to US shores. Featuring "a cryptic storyline and mix of action and adventure," this "visually stunning role-playing game" will hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in January 2011. The time period is 16th-century Venice and you must rid the city of various dangers. Players will take control of the beautiful Scarlett as they explore the streets and canals of the gorgeous city; Scarlett will have a bunch of available weapons, and she's the only one who can stop the threatening necromancer. You will encounter the baddies in the "Twilight World" and in addition to "dynamic day and night cycles," they say we'll also have the benefit of "easy pick-up and play controls." Said Bob Spellerberg, VP of Sales and Distribution at Atari, Inc.:

"Following the successful German launch, we look forward to introducing North American gamers to the world of Venetica. With breathtaking graphics and a rich and unique narrative, Venetica offers RPG fans an action-packed adventure into a dark and evil world."

Here's hoping it turns out well; we'll be sure to check it out in a few months and give you our thoughts on the game. These days, anything even remotely resembling an RPG gets our attention.

To US Shores? Is it on other shores so we can get a peek at the gameplay?

RPGs always get my attention, but since it's from Atari and the developer wasn't mentioned I'll try to keep my expectations low.

A quick internet search finds that it is developed by a German developer known as Deck13, who also did the Ankh games (which I've never even heard of). As for Atari, they haven't been relevant since 1984.
Peace.

"… they haven't been relevant since 1984" – Lawless

…!!!

What about "The Chronicles of Riddick", "The Witcher" and the current "Star Trek Online"?

I admit now, that may been rash. It's just that the Atari name, to me, no longer holds the same prestige that it did before they went out of the console making business and were bought by Hasbro.

The main character (that woman in the image) looks like a mad mom on a rampage lol.

I think this came out for PC too.

The game looks ok, if you do some google you'll see. It kinda looks like those average PC rpgs that come out from time to time.

no, i was serious.
when a shooter gets announced everyone b*tches and moans another shooter.
when another RPG gets announced, there all fine and dandy about it.
cant have rules for one thing, than ignore them for the other.

Venetica is sexy and sadly but true, if a game features a female in the main role gamers will buy it. Had it been some dude people would have looked the other way unless it was critically acclaimed and a best seller.

More games the better. People love their RPGs and the states should be given the chance to show how much they CAN support the genre.
