The precision of PlayStation Move is impressive and it's even more impressive when those outside the industry take notice.
As revealed at the PlayStation Blog , Sony's new motion-sensing technology has earned Popular Science's 2010 Best of What's New Award in the home entertainment category. The editors of the esteemed publication selected Move as the only video game tech worthy of mention this year, calling it "the most immersive gaming controller on the market" and "the first motion-capture game system accurate enough to attract the hardcore gamers who consider the Wii and Microsoft Kinect to be kids' stuff." The comparison to the Wii and Kinect is bound to incite a few arguments but, well…there it is.
And that's not where the accolades end, either. Move was named a CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering award winner in the electronic gaming hardware category, and it has also received the National Parenting Center Seal of Approval in the video game category. Obviously, this helps Sony's cause when they say Move isn't designed for one particular group; it can appeal to both the hardcore and the casual; the young and the old. And with compatible games ranging from SingStar Dance to The Fight: Lights Out to Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition to LittleBigPlanet 2 to Killzone 3 , that variety is definitely assured.
If you haven't given Move a try yet, we urge you to pick up a wand somewhere and get "moving."
and the blue ball doesn't taste like blueberry =/
Just avoid blue balls altogether.
I think move will shine come next year.Kinect is not appealing to me and many of my gamer friends at all,but who knows what the future holds.
Now that M$'s Kinect was hacked on only it's 3rd day out, a lot of those Kinect's aren't even being bought for gaming.
A bunch of them are only being bought to interface with computers, robots & some Roomba vacuum cleaners.
And it's funny how M$ has suddenly spin-doctored it….at first they were complaining about it, but now that they can't do anything about all those Kinect's being hacked, they're saying that they open-sourced the Kinect that way on purpose now.
Yeah right!
lol, new plasmid by Ryan Industries, control your Roomba and Scooba vacuums with your feet!
Yeah, but kind of pointless when there are better ways to make interfaces in those robots in such, but w/e.
"the most immersive gaming controller on the market"
Well… yeah… all of us here called it…
I can't say I'm surprised at all, but I am happy to hear this news. I haven't invested in Move yet, but I'm glad Sony's finding this kind of success.
I just need some of my games to support it.
its possible you'll have to buy new ones.
I'm telling ya, the hardware is beyond impressive.. From moving forward/backward, up/down, left/right and twisting your wrist… While initially gaming on it, you don't realize how much control you really have! Then, all of a sudden, you start realizing movements you performed without knowing you can move like that!
This hardware deserves some serious and compelling software asap!
I'm glad Move works properly, but like so many others have said, we need games worth playing with it now. So far its been patched up old games and casual tech demos.
I have been playin Mag with move, and it's notr casual at all, very immersive and hard to master.
Indeed. Harder than I thought.
oh yeah, it's very challenging. It gets fun as you get used to it though. I'm curious as to how it's ganna work with KZ3. I have to perfect it.
"Wii and Microsoft Kinect to be kids' stuff."
LOL! Truth. Though Nintendo has been able to make almost perfect games. Almost every one of their first party titles score 9's and above(Kirby's Epic Yarn, Mario Galaxy 1&2, Donky Kong etc.) Even the new Golden Eye is getting high marks while MS has…Kinectimals. Hahaha!
Euthanasia comes to mind for Kinectimals.
Move is really an amazing piece of hardware, and I'm happy to say that all my skepticism was misplaced! I bought one right when it launched, and it has won me over.
That said, there are some changes that would make it even better:
1. PlayStation Eye is an obvious area of improvement. Give us a full HD camera with better light sensors to boot.
2. Make that dull navigation wand motion sensitive, and add an analouge stick to the move wand. This would essentially mean that the combination would work for motion sensing as well as regular controls that require dual analouge sticks.
That would negate any advantage a DualShock holder would have over a Move holder, especially in FPS multiplayers.
3. Not so much with the Move itself, but the software – the calibration process needs to be standardized across the board. Maybe have the PS3 calibrate Move as soon as it is turned on, which means I don't have to re-calibrate everytime I switch from one game to the other.
I'm not sure 1 or 2 could be done at this point. Number 3 however, is a great idea that would fix one of the only things people complain about with the Move.
Gotta say, I played with the Move set up at Worst Buy last weekend it was alright. I just played ping pong but after a few minutes I was able to volley back and forth a few times. Don't know that I'll be buying it anytime soon but it was fun.
I'm glad it's getting its just credit, especially for being the better tech. (Yeah some people still think Kinect is more sophisticated). I'll still be waiting for bigger move-specific titles and probably a price drop till I invest though.
Very good news. I really can't believe that the inferior Kinect is outselling the Move 3-to-1. All I know is that if I were a black man, I'd still be able to play the Move (unlike the Kinect, apparently).
I'd like to point out that the Kinect did win that award last year. Not sure why though . They were very vague when talking about it and the thing was not even out yet.
That's easy to answer. You see, bill gates is one of the richest men, ever. Surely, no one would award hardware without a good reason! Even if that reason isn't the hardware at all..
Oh yeah, we all know how uberly-fantabulous the Kinect went over at the 2010 E3 by stealing the whole show…..er…….."NOT"…..

I'm surprised Kinect didn't win anything.
Kinect is the better technology no matter how you look at it, it's what future looks like only Kinect isn't the future and it ain't for gaming.
huh?
Dude, motion sensor and no controller, that's cool to use.
But it's not really suited for gaming, the bots can't play their FPS with it and they look like retard playing some other games.
Report: Kinect's Struggling In Japan, Selling 1/4 of Move
http://www.industrygamers.com/news/kinect-is-struggling-in-japan-selling-one-fourth-of-move—report/
shame theres no decent games to back it up!
really wish sony would revise the XMB integration and PSN store, its such a pain in the a$$ to use!
i thought it would be like the wii, point at what you want.
not this hold down the trigger than move in the direction you want to go.
surf trophies with it and your constantly having to hold down the trigger, swing down, release, raise the controller, rinse and repeat.
It's nice to see the technology get recognition it deserves like this.
