We did expect the result but we didn't realize it would be such a blowout. Eh, maybe we should've known: no racing game, even if it's as entertaining as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit , can survive in the expansive shadow of Gran Turismo 5 .
In our recent poll, we asked you if you'd prefer to have either the new NFS or GT5 (or both/neither) and although we gave you that attractive "both" option, it seems PSXE – along with a great many other PlayStation 3 owners around the world – is just crazy about Polyphony's impending title. Scheduled to release this week on the 24th, GT5 is the game many have been waiting on since the system arrived; it launched in North America almost exactly 4 years ago. The press and gamers everywhere are just chomping at the bit; a couple weeks ago, it was all about Call of Duty: Black Ops and now, most headlines include the words "Gran Turismo." In some ways, it's a little surprising. It's as if the entire planet suddenly wants to become a professional racer; GT is always about hardcore simulation so it'll undoubtedly scare many away with its realism and authenticity. But hey, maybe we shouldn't complain about the rampant popularity.
This week, given the latest response, we just gotta know: what percentage of PSXE readers will own GT5? Perhaps it'll give us an admittedly vague indication of the overall sales potential of the game… Despite what might be a steep learning curve for many, it seems a lot of people really, really want it. So, do you?
Related Game(s): Gran Turismo 5
Hot Pursuit looks great, theres no denying that. But anyone who gives a crap about cars will be playing Gt5 for the next few months. I really wish NFS would have been out this summer….
Anywho, Gt5 is a day one purchase for me. I have Wednesday off so i'm going to pick up my collector's edition after i get some stuff done around the house. While i'm out i need to pick up wiper blades so i'll replace those and eat lunch while it installs. Then all afternoon is just me in my sweat pants in front of my tv.
Unfortunately, my claim of getting the game on day one looks really unlikely now, but I still plan on getting it before the year is out. Maybe I'll get it shortly after it releases. I guess this is why they invented credit cards, right?
Me GT5 1st day.
I'm no good at these, and fantastic graphics and physics or not they are all pretty much the same to me so I'll pass. However, after all this development time combined with years of hype and both perceived and real delays I hope it is a rip roaring success for fans and the PS3. I admit I'd still like to read the reviews.
And it should probably get some sort of entry into those horribly picked Spike TV VGA's.
Yhea, my feelings exactly… I want to read the reviews, as well as Highlanders' one.
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
GT5 – D1P for me.
Not spending any money on it however. JB Hifi in Australia has it free if you trade in three (half decent) games.
So Vanquish, Resident Evil 5 and Infamous will have to go to make room for this racing classic.
Your sacrifice will not go in vain…
Vanquish and Resi5 I can understand at least.
Don't get rid of inFamous. That's blasphemy!
Methinks talking about trading in games gets you thumbs down…
At $100 a pop in Australia you tend to try and "ease the pain" anyway you can.
Yip, I regret trading in Infamous but I've only got a few tradable games left and it's between Heavy Rain, MGS4 and Infamous.
EB Games in Australia selling GT5 for $118… They have to be effin joking. Who would ever go there to buy a game?
Meh, you shouldn't be thumbed down for trading games. I understand now why you do it. Blows my mind why games cost so much in Aussie.
Would it be cheaper just to import? (If you don't mind the wait)
I feel your pain… But, $118? That's the kind of price that I'd expect to pay at the store here in town… But they love to price gouge.
Sad to see that you're getting rid of inFamous, but needs must whent the devil drives.
Peace.
O my god 118 AUS dollar = 85 Euro… Damn that's expensive. In Europe 60 Euro is common price for new games.
Can't you buy the UK version on the internet for 54 Euro? Or interferes that with on-line gaming?
JB HiFi is down to AU$79 for GT5 on day one.
Far more reasonable than the robbers at EB Games. Ripping off the uninformed is their forte…
Day 1, no doubt.
After the 24th there will be no racing game that can compare to GT5.
This brings me back to the days when GT3 was going to be released (that was a BIG release for Sony)
Let's see if American/UK gamers truly appreciate quality.

D1P for me for sure, though it'll be a while before I go online, I'm not a trained GT player.
I've always said it and it's damn true, online is only an option.
In fact I think the experience is much more fulfilling when you can master the game offline. Then go out online if you want after you have finished the whole game.
Though I'm sure there will be beginner events/rooms online so that's another option.
Thing is Scarecrow, wonder how long will it take for me to master the game?
No wait, scratch that, how long will it take for me to FINISH the game?
Like getting all the license and winning all the competition?
It'll be awhile before I go online, and I know what I am doing.
GT has always been about the singleplayer experience.
I preordered GT5 CE from Amazon with release day delivery. I may buy another copy if my daughter asks for one.
If Need For Speed had released earlier in the year I would have considered buying it.
i dunno. i may be one of the few who doesn't care for gran turismo.
Probably because there aren't guns and commies to shoot at.
Indeed you are.
I'm with you on that, Booze. I'll try to get it from someone for Xmas only because Polyphony deserves the sale but, as a gamer, I like my racing games fast from start to finish. Actually GT5 is the only racer released this year that I'm not buying personally. F1 2010, Blur, Modnation, Split Second, and NFS HP are satisfying my racing needs quite well.
*facepalm*
Why date the chess club captain when the most coveted cheerleader is all over you?
Well said Underdog. Made me laugh.
Ordered the collectors edition with release day shipping. Can't wait!
Really enjoying NFS right now. I'll be passing on GT and picking up Splatterhouse on Tuesday instead.
::facepalm::
"I'll be passing on GT and picking up Splatterhouse on Tuesday instead"
You can make grown men weep with that statement!
Haha, I'll back you Geobaldi, if I could pick a free game from the two I'd pick Splatterhouse as well.
Oh my… sacrilege.
*Faints*
Me no racey racey. Simple as that.
Can't possibly go wrong with Splatterhouse. Halfway through and loving it.
I don't know. To me there is room in my schedule for GT5 AND NFS. I've been enjoying NFS since it came out and I think it'll be a good break from the "seriousness" of GT5. Laying that spike strip to take out a racer or blocking the EMP blast of cop in pursuit is a nice break from hitting the apex of EVERY turn in order to get a license.
With that said, GT5 will be at my door step after work on Wednesday (hopefully an early closing is in store for us) and I will play the heck out of it this coming weekend for sure. Maybe pop in NFS when I struggle or want a break from THE racing sim.

I really hope after Shift 2, NFS will release a Underground game or something very similar to it. I been thinking about, for a long time, if GT5 had a city map. You know a open world map you can just cruse around in. It doesn't have to be as huge as most open world maps in racing games today, but just a few allies, a free way and some city streets. Imagine Dude I'll pay $40-$60 bucks for that for a good size map.
The tracks in GT5 will eat up so much of my time already, but just saying that's on my Wish list DLC, most wants, for any game.
GT5 ONLY 2 DAYS AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stangman,
I've said it before, and that is a brilliant idea. Imagine if Polyphony were to license the GT5 physics engine to R* for the next Midnight Club. That would result in a rather epic nerdgasm from me. The idea of a full-fledged racing simulator in an open-world environment is awesome. Of course, it would be harder than Demon's Souls, but that's just necessary.
Peace.
PD doing a Midnight Club style game sounds interesting to me!!
more like frustrating!
just noticed the GT5 faceplate released today, looks so cool that shame sony did not release any of those titanium blue ps3s here.
oh well, i might be able to import one.
that, plus the black faceplate would look so sweet!
I preorederd my Collector's Edition back on July 24th. I would of preordered it long before that of I had the money. I'm so excited for Gran Turismo 5 to be here. It's 2 days away now, so close but so far. I will play GT5 for years. Right up to GT6. GT5 can do that to you. I still enjoy GT3:Aspec when I go to my sousins house and I have trouble quiting. GT is the best "racing" game "ever" not only the best Simulator.
GT5(GOTY) countdown: 2 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I plan to send my car in for repairs on the very same day that I get GT5… A suitable enough trade I think. And that is Day 2. BUT! I'm getting my sister to pick it up day 1. Signature Edition!
Oh, and NFS never really stood a chance, did it?
Peace.
ahhhh i've been trying to look for a black friday deal for Gt5! Nothing! I'm buying Vanquish Gt5 Black ops and Assasins creed on black friday! The only deal i found so far were Assasins Creed for 40 bucks on kmart. $52 for black ops in costco! Too bad gamestop isn't giving the buy2get1free deal this year
=( i bought killzone infamous Resistance 2 USED last year for 30 bucks. What a steal. If anyone knows any sale for GT please reply! lol
Man I am so pissed off… I did pre-order GT5 on-line. And now the Dutch postal services are going on a strike the 24the and 25th. I cannot believe it.. How is this possible? This must be a test from god to test my patience.
"How is this possible?"
Entitlements made that possible.
Cancel that pre-order and pick it up from a store.
The whole "entitlement" vibe that runs rampant has nearly ruined GTPlanet.
I have gran turismo 5 since friday and ive noticed that there is no option to go online .. Im hoping this will be enabled come release day on wednsday..I have all but the s licence passed.. and 19 percent of a spec completed.. Hav my honda civic type r race converted and a few other cars i won in the garage..
I've had it pre-ordered for quite some time now. I've even been playing GT5 Prologue a bit to get ready for it. Turns out that playing F1 2010 wasn't the best practice for GT5 – now I have to get used to cars that don't turn on a dime and corner at 5 G's all over again.
I'm checking my email numerous times each day waiting for the shipping confirmation from Amazon. Which still hasn't come yet – c'mon, it's 7:30 Monday morning, get to work already!!!
Day one purchase, if I can get my hands on it.
