The announcement made a lot of gamers happy and now, after Team ICO boss Fumito Ueda sat down with Famitsu , we have even more details on the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection .
Firstly, Ueda confirmed he's "overlooking" both remakes and acting as a "supervisor;" he'll receive updates each week and go over them. The reason why this is significant is because the original team is not handling the upgrades we will see in the final product; such work is being handled by "an extremely excellent company," according to Ueda. However, it's good to know the main dude still has to approve what they do, regardless of how "excellent" they may be. Secondly, he clarified that both remakes will be the same as the PS2 versions, but reminded us once again that we'll get the European ending for ICO . Thirdly, the frame rate: "ICO will remain at 30 frames per second," Ueda commented. "Even if we were able to do 60 frames, we wouldn't change it." If you're wondering, The Last Guardian is also designed to run at 30FPS. But he did say that areas where the frame rate dropped in the PS2 version will be spruced up to stay at 30FPS in the remake.
Ueda then talked a bit about the addition of the 3D option- he said he was surprised at how much control one has in adjusting the 3D effects. "ICO 's 3D is good, but when Shadow of the Colossus becomes 3D, its true power really emerges," he said. Now that, we definitely believe. Lastly, one final interesting tidbit- while both remakes will be on the same Blu-Ray disc here in the US, they'll be released separately in Japan. That's about all we need to know…we just can't wait.
I'm definitely going to invest in this collection release. The TGS is certainly helping sell this title too!
Speaking of TGS, when is SE going to produce that title that will supposedly get everyone excited that they talked about last month?
I'd buy it, but i have a ps2 copy of both so i dont really feel like reinvesting in both again. If i had a 3d tv i'd be standing in line to get SotC, but i'm not buying a new tv any time soon.
I have both, too, but I'll be one of the first to get this Collection.
I have SotC on PS2 and I'll be in line right behind Ben.
Screw the line, I'll just order off Amazon with Release Day delivery. They can't screw it up again like they did with HR, right!?
Seriously though I take extreme pride in knowing I bought both games on Day1 for the PS2 and know very few with ICO in their collection.
In line day 1 as well and I have both for the PS2. Ico was just a chance pick-up. One of the best blind buys ever.
Sweet, probably going to get this collection.
Now, how 'bout FFVII remake….
This isn't a remake nor does it have anything to do with FFVII, how about you stop whining about a damn remake.
I'm sure that they'll release a FFVIII remake just to bug LV.
Ba! We both know that's NEVER going to happen before a VII remake. Can you imagine though if it happened, talk about rioting.
People would light picket signs on fire that read, "Kill Wada, Kill LV!!"
It wouldn't be a pretty sight. Armageddon!
I know it doesnt have anything to do with an FFVII remake….
Then why do you feel the need to harp on the subject when it's not even related to the conversation at hand.
Dog, they would not be chanting for my death they would be chanting for my sex, duh.
As long as SOTC maintains a constant 30fps, I'll be happy. The ps2 version use to suffer from serious slow-down/stutter, but still managed to give the most impressive experience i've ever had in gaming. They're probably keeping it 30fps either to maintain the cartoon quality, (since 60fps gives a live video look) or for performance consistency (especially if they'll be going 3D at 720p).
mo-cap could be a reason for 30fps.
If anyone ever played Halo PC you could get the frame-rate up to 60fps+ but the characters still moved choppy, like 30fps. It created a disjunct feel between elements.
Makes sense, Sensei Temjin.
Good point Tem. It's like when you emulate an older game on a newer computer, sometimes you see things you weren't meant to see. When games aren't designed for 60fps+ it's not suggested to exceed that for reasons you described.
I was kinda hoping for a westernized update to these two classic titles =p
guns and deathmatch would've been a good place to start…
Ssssshhhhh…….
Someone in Japan might hear you.

What´s the noticeable difference between 30FPS and 60FPS?? Cause I keep hearing of it but I can´t really tell the difference. Can someone give examples of games that run at these 2 different FPS??

You can tell the difference on really fast paced games – 60fps is smoother than 30fps. But in most games as long as the frame rate is completely stable, you won't see much, if any difference.
60fps and up is the preferred frame rate for FPS, helps with with the aiming and such. Everything else can be 30fps for all I care.
@LV,
Dude, everyone knows you're just a frame-rate whore…
😉
GOW3 runs at 30fps (with intermittent spurts of 60fps usually in closed areas) where as Dante's Inferno (as well as DMC, and the Ninja Gaidens) runs at 60fps.
Uncharted 1 & 2 run at 30fps where as Ratchet & Clanks run at 60fps.
MotorStorms run at 30fps, where as Wipeout HD/Fury (and the Gran Turismos) run at 60fps.
Killzone 2 and both Resistances run at 30fps where as both COD:MW's run at 60fps.
Cinema movies are displayed 24fps, TV shows at 30fps, and live-video/news broadcasts at 60fps.
Play MW2 then play Killzone 2 and you can tell the difference. 60fps is awesome for shooters. That's the one thing I did like about MW2.
Play the God of War Collection then play the PS2 versions. You can also see the difference. While I myself would like all games to run at 60fps it's not a necessity.
When it comes to PC gaming, you know it! When it comes to consoles all I care about is stability. I'd rather a game have a constant 25fps than 60 here and 20 there. One of the minor complaints I had with SOTC though in all honesty I blame the hardware for not keeping up with Fumito's vision.
ANd GoW3's better than 30fps frame-rate was optimized just days prior to the game going gold. The team learned new ways to optimize performance right up to that point. I'm sure GoW4 will look even more incredible.
It is quite incredible how much stuff they were able to push off onto the Cell.
Likewise, I'm willing to bet that very dynamic rain effect for GT5 is being handled by SPU;s.

I wonder if it'll have trophy support.
God of War collection did, if I'm not mistaken. I think that Sony requires all PS3 releases to have trophies now, so it's probably a safe bet that it will.
Wait did you not play the GOW collection!? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Yeah it will have trophy support,

I believe that it's also been reported that The Last Guardian will be 3D enabled as well.
All very cool.
SotC in HD is all I needed to hear this week. I can hardly wait for the sand snake in HD. It's got me all giddy on the inside.
I have SotC, but I never played ICO – even though people told me to play it. So this might actually be a good purchase.
Looking forward to both of these. They sound like very interesting experiences.
Bummer. I really like 60fps. Won't stop me from buying the game though. These are just to good to pass up. Even if you already own them on PS2.
Okay… WHEN can we expect this to come out 'cause right now I'm jumping of my seat
Especially awesome since I haven't played ICO… hope it comes with trophies lol but I doubt it

Why would you doubt it? The first PS2 collection came with trophies and it's pretty easy to implement them. You have no reason to think there wont be.
Yea trophies are a cinch to implement. Remember Uncharted Drakes Fortune didn't come with trophies. They patched it after the fact. There is no reason to believe this will not come with trophies right out of the box. It's madantory all PS3 games come with trophies.
Now, where are our MGS4 trophies Kojima!?
Jawknee that's what I want.
I've already played MGS4 3 times…but I'm holding out on #4 until trophies come for it!! It's toooo good to not have them.
@Jawknee
Thanks for the info
Trophy Unlocked: Successful trampoline bounce
I have both original launch copies, just like GoW and Sly but will definitely be getting the collection D1P baby! Loved those games and the HD will greatly enhance it. I have a fat and even BC with upconverting still looks no where near as good. With the old GoW vs the collection even my fiancé saw the difference.

That's awesome. I wonder what company is doing the upgrades though. I'd like to see their pedigree before passing judgement on them, even though I know both games kick all sorts of booty. I mean, Sly Cooper Collection is being done by the same guys as did Secret Agent Clank, so I think they're right for adding anything.
Peace before I go off on too much of a tangent.
Nonsense, they should make it 60FPS.
GTFO!

If it can be done, it's always cleaner and smoother. If it can be improved, why not do it? Make sense man.
Ya it does, just wanted to reply and had absolutely nothing to contribute.
glad i don't live in japan. they are getting taken to the cleaners by their own peeps. two on a disc is always better than one. can we get a syphon filter or twisted metal collection??
