Gain Experience In FFXIV For Only 8 Hours Per Week

First of all, please bear in mind that the source in question is quite NSFW, so don't clicky if you're at work or there are kids (or the wife) in the room.

Well, this is one way to keep the MMORPG lovers from overclocking on time and forgetting what sunlight looks like, but it isn't going over well. According to Sankaku Complex , Square-Enix has outlined their "Fatigue System" for Final Fantasy XIV ; it's designed to limit player advancement. You may have heard that players would be limited to only 1 hour per day but in fact, it's better…but only slightly: you can only play for 8 hours per week. Actually, you can keep playing if you wish, but you won't earn experience after those 8 hours are up. Evidently, game director Nobuaki Komoto made the announcement and the details are as follows:

Okay, so you can still earn money and pick up treasure but the EXP earned will…what, diminish until it's down to nothing? After the 8 hours are up? Gamers have a lot of questions for Square-Enix and we'll be interested to see how they answer. If this were any other type of game, 8 hours might not be so bad, but an MMO…? Can't MMOers put 8 hours in per day ?

i thought it was just the guildleve quests that you can only do so many times a day? also, there are plenty of other things to do besides gaining exp, crafting is much more important in this game, it can also be your main class if you like. just because it's labeled an mmo, doesn't mean it's going to be like all the rest that share that tag. who knows though…when i start playing in march and i'm standing around with nothing to do because of the fatigue, i'll be pissed too. but that would obviously be stupid, even for SE.

also, WoW does something similar, but a bit backwards. I'm sure they are just taking a page out of their book, but putting a spin on it. Instead of waiting for a day to go back to WoW to get a bonus, you play FFXIV too long and you'll get the opposite effect. Maybe I'll be thanking SE in the future for this addition lol

Open beta is about to begin, so we'll see what works and what doesn't before it releases on PC in late September.

Well 8 hours per week… i give the game less than a month before its dead, some MMoers can put 12+ hours in a day. Very Very bad idea. But what do you expect Squeenix have been going down hill for a long time now. I think theyare tryiong to avoid making a End Game for the first dewcade of the games existance. They are getting realy too lazy and it will hurt them bad.

So if I play for 1.5 hours a day, 7 days a week, that's 10.5 hours. If I exp the entire time, I don't get full credit for those extra 2.5 hours.

LAME

Seriously people, don't trust SE to make a good MMORPG… unless you really loved FFXI.

FFXI was definitely my MMO of choice. I tried WOW on a friends 30 day friend trial… It was waaaayyyy too easy. I love a challenge and community aspects… then again… I'm also a glutton for punishment.

The only real "challenge" that I found in FFXI, was the "challenge" of testing my patience for things like 16 hour HNM spawns that then had an 8 hour window.

But then again, maybe I was just annoyed that for an extended period of time the Ninja/Bard reigned supreme as the ultimate tank.

Definitely.

Plus it will prevent some players shooting up in level and overpowering less obsessive players. So you could also look at it as a game balance issue.

For people who have jobs or school I think this is an awesome idea. I am personally excited that I am going to be able to keep up with my "hardcore" friend.

while they are clearly (and, perhaps, understandably) concerned about potential addiction issues with the game, from a gameplay balance standpoint, I love this move. If I'm going to give this game a shot, it would drive me absolutely nuts knowing how quickly the obsessives were flying past me. I'm still on the fence for this one but this is an intriguing development.

Its not a totally bad idea, like the guy above said, he can keep up with his hardcore freind 😛

In a way, its good because that should mean there will be more space between expansions since it will take longer to finish/ get bored of it.. unlike WoW where they need to keep expanding to keep it fresh..

And there is a difference between 8 hours pw and 1 hour per day, if u can only play on weekends at least u still get your 8 hours in, instead of 2. Assuming the source got it right..

For me this isn't so bad because I won't be able to sit on it more than 3 hours straight probably but this would suck for the others who really want to spend a lot of time playing this.

This could hurt the game though cause when people pay a monthly fee to play it they are not going to want somebody telling them how long they can play the game.

It'll be interesting to see how much weight this holds, though. How many other things are there to do, and can you still score great items and skills, etc if you aren't leveling.

I know in FFXI I spent one week of play (was a student, likely played close to 8 hours a week) just collecting the different summons around the world of VanaD. Didn't level or gain a single merit point! (Merit points were used to beef up your stats once you reach max level)

So for me, I just see more budgeting of time, really.

After 8 hours hours of play in a week, no soup for you!

How much are they gonna charge the FF zealots for 32 hours of meaningful gaming a month?

I was interested in this. The key word in that sentence being "was." Are they TRYING to run their company into bankruptcy? Cause if they keep doing stuff like this, they'll succeed.

I don't get it. Are they doing this for casuals, so everyone can rank up at about the same speed? That makes no sense.

Does square know the type of people who play MMO's? Because doing something like this is like putting a sticker on it that says "DO NOT BUY ME"

That's right they've pulled out a Nintendo there, they're trying to bring in casual gamers, there's just a "little hiccup" in their ecuation, most casual gamer wouldn't get into an MMORPG.

Ah, there's the story I was looking for. Sankaku cites an interview at Famitsu, but alas the Google translator turned the whole thing it garbage so I couldn't be absolutely certain when I found this info but it is fairly accurate nonetheless.

And wow, what a ripoff. Like I said before I could see this if the game had no monthly subscription, but if I'm paying for it, then I should be able to gain God-like powers on my own schedule.

Thankfully, I won't be paying for it. However, I reserve the right to call this another strike against SquareEnix.

I haven't even had the desire to get this game & I'm already "fatigued", just by all the stupid stuff SE is doing this year.

I'll make bet that SE is only doing this timed-play cause they're thinking their server's MIGHT get butt-hurt or wallet raped, especially since MS hasn't sugar-daddy'ed them on this game.

But…..SE IS still in constant negotiations with MS to resolve some of their XBL restrictions.

TheHighlander

Yeah, it's down to memory, the forgot their commitment to Sony and they forgot how to program the PS3 properly, they forgot that FFXIII was to be a PS3 exclusive, they forgot that FFXIV was announced as a PS3 console exclusive and they forgot that Sony, and not Microsoft owns 5% of SE. And of course the biggest memory issue of all is forgetting their loyal customer base in favor of quick bucks from another company. Yep, definitely memory issues at the heart of this one.

Because they earn money from games sold on Microsoft's platform through them? That's the only reason I'd keep shares in Squeenix. Besides, S-E isn't going to go out of business anytime soon. Too many people keep mistaking their games for quality. 😛
Peace.

So let me get this straight…Square Enix wants us to pay for the game and then pay a monthly subscription fee…and then say

"OH OH OH – you get a limited time to actually enjoy the game!!! 8 hours a week! Wada sensei knows what's best!"

GET A LIFE WADA KUN – because that is some f***ed up ****.

Keep on going downhill Square Enix – I don't give a damn but give me Versus XIII first since it looks promising since it's by Nomura sama.

i was going to be a day one ps3 purchaser. Now the idea of paying £40 for the game then a £10 subscription a month to then be told i can only play 8hrs a week. Dont think so. Switching to DC universe as day one purchase MMO.

TheIllusiveMan
TheIllusiveMan

Well this went from a might try (announcement, next gen MMO FF? hell yeah) to a probably won't play unless it's amazing and worth it (subscription announcement, wtf, it might be good but I doubt it) to absolutely no (now)!

So, not only do I have to buy this game, and continue paying if I want to get the full experience, but now I can't even enjoy playing it in the free time I have (too much lol). On average I have at least 3 hours of free time every day where I'm sitting at home doing nothing, even though sometimes it's spread out. When I get a new game, that takes all my free time. So, by this idea, I can enjoy this game for about 3 days a week before my experience starts to drop and by day 5, no more experience?

I understand possibly wanting to limit people, but by that much? In my opinion (and I'm sure most people would agree), the best parts of MMO's are leveling up. Getting better, and being better than other people is fun. Not to be annoying and call lower level people noobs or anything, but just knowing your better than some people.

I'm sorry, but this is by far the stupidest thing I've heard SE do. The FF series has been going downhill, and this could be where it hits rock bottom. They've already stripped everything people like about the game and changed it to appeal to an audience that doesn't exist. Now they make you need a subscription to enjoy the game, but they make it unplayable if you actually have time to play it.

Well, so long FF series. The only thing now that could possibly be done is the overly demanded FF7 remake, but at this rate I wouldn't even want them to do it. I am confident that they would butcher it, and change the story, the gameplay, the world, the dialog, and mess with the characters.

Sorry for the long post.

EDIT: To clarify, I meant FF14 was the dumbest thing they've done, not just this. This game is far from being in my interests now.

EDIT: Also, as for your last question Ben, MMO players can clock 8 hours of gameplay before the sun goes down, then put much more in afterwards. I say screw this, I'm going to play Runescape. What? At least it's free and still enjoyable.

I have a feeling this game wont go over well, after release. Most MMO's or even RPG's are built upon leveling. I mean thats part of the fun anyways.

But lets look at the other side3 of the coin, this stops those people who just sit there and play all day from possibly doing so. Its a decent move for humanity, but a horrible one for gamers lol. Point is There will always be someone levels and levels ahead of you, this keeps everyone on a more even field. Kinda like the idea, just raisy it from 8 to say 15. Thats about fair! That will be a little over 2 hours a day!

The other problem with this is people are paying to play. If they are only able to get the full experience for a little over an hour a day well, I certainly wouldn't wanna be paying for it. If im goin to pay to play, gimme all you got, otherwise the price of the game alone is enough! Dont push it SE!

So first they alienate all the fans of rpgs with a "westernized" rpg that didn't play like any western rpg I have ever had my hands on and now they wish to alienate all the MMO fans by putting restrictions on the game they are paying for. It is like SE is trying to kill their japanese division for good.

and on a side note I bet this won't go over very well in korea

This is ridiculous. So I only get 8hrs worth of 100% leveling than gradually it gets reduced after 8hrs and at 15hrs I recieve zero experience.

WTF!?

The whole point of an MMO/RPG is to explore and level up and enjoy the experience at your own pace. This is just forcing those that choose to invest more time in a game to limit their gameplay. If I want to buy your game and play it 40hrs a week than so be it, don't gimp my style just so Joeblo can say we're comparable with his 9to5 schedule.

If this stays true then I'm no longer getting this game.

bigrailer19
bigrailer19

Exactly what you said! To the T.

Don't forget that you have to pay to play this game also. That hinders this 8 hours of experience a lot. I'm not going to pay to play a game that I cant get a full experience out of, on top of the price I paid for it.

I understand the idea behind, keep everything on a level field. But Its an MMORPG,we will be paying to play, I mean come on think about what your doing here!

spiderboi
spiderboi

The cap makes the money for the subscription to play less worth it. MMORPG's are played not for side quests but mostly for leveling up.
