Considering the number of role-playing fans we've got at PSXE, the result isn't much of a shock. 😉

It was only #5 on our list of Top 5 Titles PS3 Fans Wish They Had , but it was #1 from the reader standpoint. BioWare's Mass Effect 2 was often rumored to eventually arrive on Sony's machine, and although it never happened, we're all assuming the EA-published third installment will be truly multiplatform. BioWare gave us Dragon Age: Origins (and next year's Dragon Age II ), right? But in the meantime, one of the generation's best RPG franchises is not currently available on the PS3, and most of you miss it. However, most games on the list got plenty of attention, and the runner-up – Gears of War 2 – was a close second. Nipping at its heels was The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess , and so many others were very, very close. In fact, it was one of the closest polls we've ever seen right across the board; only Forza Motorsport 3 lagged far behind, although perhaps that's because Gran Turismo 5 is right around the corner for PS3 owners.

Next up, we'll try to gauge interest for the impending Call of Duty titles. There are three (assuming Infinity Ward really is working on Modern Warfare 3 ), and we're wondering which of these three tops your priority list. Do you like the idea of an "adventure/FPS" in Call of Duty 8 ? Or would you rather try the highly anticipated Black Ops from Treyarch? Let us know.

I picked L4D. Never played it but seen my nephew play it, and the co op is pretty cool. I don't know much about Mass Effect but it seems boring. I'm no twitch gamer, but from what I've seen it doesn't look very exciting.

I'm interested in COD8, only because the idea of "Adventure/FPS" sounds intriguing. Other than that, I'm saying no to Black Ops (I'm leaving that to my brothers if they want it, idc if they do) and MW3, because MW2 is the last COD I'll ever get.

I may have contradicted myself there, but bottom line, no COD from me. In the next 6 months, I'll have KillZone 3, Dragon Age II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Persona 3: FES and Persona 4.

If I look 2-3 months even further, heck there's even more…

Sorry for being nitpicky Ben, but the picture for the article is from the first Mass Effect ^_^

Not surprising, even I tried to play ME2. However, my PC just can't run it without a new graphics card and spending money on PC gaming is like flushing it down the toilet.

I have to vote none on this poll, I'm so sick of COD this and COD that I could barf. I wish there was a new RPG every four seconds instead of an FPS.

Well, if it ever happens World, let's hope 90% of those RPGs every 4 seconds don`t have cliche characters and cliche storylines, because it takes time and effort to make a fantastic story and characters that we would care about =)

The length of time it takes me to finish or play an RPG completely I would not want that.

I'm still playing Dragon Age lol. I purchased all the DLC and awakening. But I've still yet to play any of the DLC or awakening, cus I've yet to finish the main story.

Point is COD, well the only replay value FPS have to me, is the online. Bring me one a year, I'm ok with that. The RPG I'd miss too many good ones. Its the main reason I missed out on Demons souls. Too many games.

Loving the Squall avatar. I wish more people would realize how good FF VIII is, and I agree I miss the way there used to be a plethora of quality RPG's coming out and now it seems to be slept on. What's going on with a new Suidoken, Breath of Fire, Grandia, Dragon Quest (for a next gen system not DS), Chrono anything, Wild Arms, and others, it needs to come back. RPG's will always be amongst the best genres because most feature deep gameplay, great stories, and hours of game, more bang for your 60 bucks.

World-
I got a good cushion even now lol! When I finish Dragon Age, I got White Knight Chronicles, and even though its a western RPG, I still have Fallout 3 GOTY edition to finish lol. See how far behind I am! Not to mention when I play an RPG I try and do every little tid bit. I played through Oblivion twice, cus the first time through I didnt join the thieves guild. Then same with the shivering isles expansion!

Its mainly because I like games, whatever genre, and it ultimately sets me up for failure cus then I miss out on alot! But I play a very wide variety of games.

That's good railer, I'm about to finish the Fallout 3 DLC, and I need to finish the Oblivion DLC and Valkyria Chronicles, I tried Trinity Universe but it was horrible, and I may not do every tiny little bit in my rpgs but so far I've got Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean TLHI, Nier, FFXIII, Dragon Age, White Knight Chronicles, 3DDotGameHeroes and Folklore under my belt.

Fallout New Vegas and Dragon Age II are a lock, but God knows when the next decent JRPG is coming.

O yea, I dont have 3-d dot game heroes but every time i see or hear its name, I instantly get excited. I need that one too!

As for Oblivion the expansion is awesome. Lots of new stuff, very cool weapons, and enemies, fun story!

I wish I was close to finishing the Fallout DLC, I think I did Operation Anchorage and that was it. The framerate kept dropping so bad I gave it a rest, cus it kept freezing. But I started Point lookout and it seems to be better for one reason or another.

I'm glad to see ME2 took the #1 slot. I hope Bioware has taken the PS3-users' anticipation over the last few years and has at least considered bringing the franchise over to PS3; ME made it to iPhone, after all.
I also wouldn't be satisfied with the series starting with the third entry. Standard BD storage could hold both ME and ME2 with room to spare. See to it Bioware: It's not un-reasonable. God of War: Collection released just a few months prior to GoW3.

I'm deep in the game. The plot is beginning to come to a point. **SPOILER ALERT** and man that stand-off between Wrex and Shepard was awesome. I re-loaded the scenario 3x just to see how my decisions would impact the outcome. Very awesome, I could really sense the great conflicting turmoil of emotions. Impressively done, Bioware. **END SPOILER**

Though Bioware, please fix the bugs. I don't usually encounter or complain of bugs much these days, but two side-missions thus far have been rendered un-finishable because of known bugs. They were tougher missions, too.

BTW, I'm deep in the original Mass Effect. I haven't played anything but the demo for ME2.

Victor321

Temjin, you're gonna be in one hell of a ride once you fully start #2, it's a very good game. I've also had that exact same idea as you for a long while, but it may actually be unreasonable because they're working on DAII, ME3 (mostly refining the tech, and of course, getting all those choices and consequences from #2 and #1 to #3, as there were choices in #1 that we made that didn't make an appearance in #2 [if they did, it was small, but I'm not going to spoil]).

In short, ME1 and ME2 (and of course ME3) are legitimately awesome, deep games on the 360 that aren't yet, on the PS3 =)

Also, did you know that the amount of plot links between ME1 and ME2 are around 700, and that there will be around 1000 now in #2 that will be carried on to #3? That's a lot of work for the writers…but it's thanks to them that the world of the ME games is so deep and rich.

Thank you for taking time to respond Victor. It would seem that Bioware's resources would be exhausted. I can remain hopeful that EA would fund a respectable dev team to port the code while Bioware keeps a watchful eye on the proceedings.
I'm quite stoked for ME2. I just know it'll be good. It is one of the highest critically acclaimed games this gen, and it'll probably be a strong candidate for GotY by many media outlets.

Victor321
Victor321

Of course, no problem at all =D!

The amount of hours I've spent on ME2 so far, including the DLC I chose to buy (several are merely little weapon or armour packs, and they don't mean much to me personally, I bought the story-related ones) is around 115 hours (and counting!) lol =P

In regards to EA funding a seperate team, that sounds like a great idea, and Bioware could easily be in the supervising role, because they're not one to give up on quality.

And you're also right on ME2 being a strong candidate for GOTY; the only thing I have against this is other games not getting the limelight =(

By the way, you mentioned bugs in the first Mass Effect having to do with sidemissions, and tough, lengthy ones too? Which sidemissions are you talking about, because in the 90 hours I've spend on ME1 (two separate playthroughs), the only bugs I've ever encountered are minor ones, and they were gameplay-related (not story).

I suggest you install the game to your 360, if you haven't already =)

I also suggest that once you get ME2, if possible, install both the discs to your 360. Sure, you're losing 14GB on your HDD, but if you do, it'll be worth it in the long term, as it will save you a lot of loading time! If you do decide to install the game, it should be both the discs, because depending on how you play the game, you may need to switch discs more than twice (they'll prompt you when to do so).

Additionally, if you plan on borrowing ME2 from a friend, that's perfectly fine, it's just that you won't get access to most (if not all, I'm not very sure) of the DLC. Some are pretty big, like story-related ones (that bridge the gap between ME2 and ME3) and character-related ones (as in recruiting them, not personal quests). Then, there are really minor ones (like gamer pics or 4$ skins! lol) I actually recommend that you buy the game because you'll end up getting a good amount of free (and best of all, worthwhile) DLC, like the ones I just mentioned.

There are some really good DLC that's premium (i.e. paid) but they're worth it if you decide to pay up (they're around 7$/560 MS Points). The length for those DLCs are between 1 1/2 hours and 2 hours, maybe longer (or shorter, depending on the difficulty).

If you're wondering why they're expensive for having such a short length for the play time, it's because Bioware to has to make DLC fit in with everyone's different playthroughs. For example, with one DLC, I had different dialogue exposed to me compared to my brother, who also had different dialogue, in the exact same situation (and also because different characters were present too!).

Sorry for being really wordy, but I'm merely helping out a fellow ME fan =D (which I hope I am!).

If you need any sort of help that's game-related (not tech-related, like bugs lol), the ME Wiki is a great source. The reason is self-explanatory lol

Thanks again for the info. I would install the ME games to a HDD, but I bought the arcade 360. I needed to keep it cheap.I do use a spare 4GB Flashdrive to download game demos and vids etc. It's pretty cool like that.

The two buggy missions are UNC: Cerberus and UNC: Geth Incursions.

I wasted about an hour trying to figure the Cerberus one out. Apparently, if you lower the shields on a containment unit before destroying the surrounding guards it'll trigger the glitch. Turning to Google helped me realize I wasn't missing anything.

Geth Incursions had me going to 4 different Geth outposts in different systems. I destroyed all but one (i can't remember which outpost) won't trigger the completion icon. The map still shows the exclamation point. It's on a hilltop of sorts with 4 out door terminals arranged in a small circle. It would appear I need to access them, but there's no context to do so.
Turning to Google, once again, I find others have had similar glitches.

Victor321
Victor321

Sorry that I can't help you in this situation Temjin =(

Playing ME1, I never experienced these kinds of glitches before…especially for the UNC: Cerberus sidequest…I always turned the containment field off, regardless if there are guards or not..

As for the UNC: Geth sidequest, I'm not of much help either, but what I did in terms of reaching that specific outpost (thanks for explaining it in detail) was, with the Mako, trying to find indirect paths that would lead me to that hilltop, as it's perched very very high, on a mountain, yes? If not, completely disregard this paragraph =D

I suggest searching up "UNC: Geth" on youtube; a user called "goodyatheart" uploaded 5 parts to the mission (there are only 5, one for each outpost). I've checked them out a bit for some of them, so I hope they're helpful to you.

Other than that, this requires out-of-the-box thinking (or plain trial-and-error lol). Because, and I assure you, when you complete this quest, it will be completed.

EDIT: Just a heads up, although you mention 4 outposts, there is a 5th one. You'll know of this when you complete the 4th outpost. The co-ordinates of the 5th are in the Grissom system, last I checked. ^.^

Mass Effect 2 only won because you didn't put Dragon Quest on the poll. Next time you should include great games that have been lobotomized into DS games.

As for CoD, it's a wait and see for me. If Activision starts charging a monthly fee for their online I'll certainly be the first to ditch that series.

Not interested in the Xbox really, but when I get a decent PC, the Mass Effect games will be first on my list. I watched my roommate play plenty of them on his computer and it looks really fun.

As for CoD: I'll pass on them. IW was the only thing keeping me somewhat interested in the series, but since half of them left, my faith is shaken in a solid product. I could be wrong though. I am looking forward to whatever Respawn has in store for us.

I voted a tie for ME2 & Gears.

As for the 3 COD's, I voted for COD 8, cause I'm interested to see if Sledgehammer Games will bring something new & bright to the COD table, or if they'll just continue more of anti-vision's constant same ole, same ole.

(But I will still wind up bargain binning them all cheap & used for my collection, & 1 play-through each).

I'm somewhat surprised that Forza made the list over Fable.

Only impatient PS3 users have a reason to want Forza, because GT5 will crush it soon enough.

While I can't say I've been much of a Fable guy, Fable 2 netted well over 3 million (impressive for a non-shooter Xbox exclusive) in sales and has a solid aggregate rating of 89 from Metacritic. Seems like a solid enough exclusive.

Personally, the art-style is something of a turn off for me.

Victor321
Victor321

Are you talking about the art style of Forza or Fable Temjin, I'm lost lol

Although I don't deny that Forza is a great simulator (played the demo, it's good), when compared to GT5, the graphics don't even look like a simulator; when not compared, they look great.

Temjin001
Temjin001

Fable's art style has this dumpy folkish look about it. I won't claim that I'll never give it a good try because of it. It just hasn't earned any points from me for that particular aspect of it. I'm sensitive to visual aesthetics when it comes to fantasy games of this sort.
I think Fable is a good pick because, unlike GT5, it is somewhat unique and individualized from what you can get on PS3. Forza is a GT simulation game that is fighting for the same slot as GT5.

I agree with both of you. To me [email protected] had a better campaign than both MW and MW2. But online MW and MW2 were more appealing.

That is why Black Ops has my vote. Treyarch did a great job making the WW2 era awesome to play, after it was on the down slide, especially after the popularity of MW!
