First of all, the demo for Valkyria Chronicles 2 is available now on the PSN. Secondly, if enough fans keep asking, it might just come to the PlayStation 3.
Many fans of the original were disappointed to learn that the sequel would only be made for the PSP, but there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. After announcing the aforementioned demo over at the PlayStation Blog , Sega of America Assistant Community Manager Aaron Webber answered a few questions in the Comments below the update. Now, at first, Webber makes it clear that VC was a PS3 exclusive and VCII is a PSP exclusive, and there are currently no plans to change that. But after multiple requests to make it happen, he added the following:
"I’ve passed on for a long time now that fans would love to see it, as shown by the many comments asking for it. It isn’t a decision I can make personally, but I’ve pushed as many people as possible to let them know of the support out there for it."
Well, that's something, at least. Oh, and Webber also passed along the request for a new VC Trophy patch, which isn't on the horizon but with the power of the fans…who knows? Valkyria Chronicles 2 will hit store shelves in the US on August 31 but will we eventually see it grace the PS3 (via the PSN) at some point? We know many ardent followers of the original who don't own PSPs want it to happen, so we'll keep you updated.

Bring it back where it belongs!
Knowing SEGA though they'll probably make it multiplatform next time
Anyway, the first one was great, might get the psp version
They have kept the yakuza series ps exclusive and that's worked out well for them. I'm pretty sure they will do the same with this series as well. 🙂 yay for positive thinking haha
I don't mind if they go multiplatform, particularly if it's the difference between a series and gameplay like this surviving or not :).
If making it multiplatform means I can play it on a home console instead of on a portable, then I'm all for it…
…but seeing as my daughter hogs up the TV, VC2 being on the PSP may be just what the doctor ordered so I can play while she has the TV!
I won't get a PSP so this would be totally cool. I'm ashamed to say I got sidetracked during my play of VC1 and have to find the time to get back to it some day, but between now and the possible time this happens I should be able to make it so.
I was really disappointed when I heard the sequel was on psp. I have a psp, but this game belongs on ps3. The first one was great and I really hope they make this happen and I'll wait to get it until it does, or I find out for sure that they won't.
its pretty stupid to put such a long game like this on the PSP.
not only that, the original was on PS3 only and now they switching to PSP?
lol, SEGA, you keep f*cking up
ill be missing out on this title unless it comes to PS3, i dont own a PSP and i wont own one because its outdated as hell right now
Sega seems to like messing up
It's so weird
Sega, stuffing up?
Okay, I can understand things like the 3D Sonic games and Alpha Protocol, but Bayonetta was supposed to be a supergood game (on the 360, shameful port job), Sonic and Sega All-Stars is also supposed to have been quite good. And honestly, I think that there is a larger market for this type of game on the PSP. Not only that, but it makes sense in terms of profitability.
I think the fact that they are doing PS exclusives and not 360 exclusives is proof enough that they aren't as stupid as a little company whose name rhymes with Bear-Pheonix.
Peace.
On the PSP, in Japan, this should sell like hotcakes.
You said it Mamills. Unfortunately for SEGA and as good as VC2 probably is, when I go portable, it's DQIX all the way.
I'm just starting the first one and it's awesome. I would definitely love to see a sequel even though I only just began this great game. So hopefully it does eventually come to the PS3 or I will be very disappointed.
adding trophies to valkyria chronicles may be the best move then can make to get more support for the game. i cant even count how much times i hear trophy whores whine and say that they wont play the game because theres no trophy support. i mean, when did we start playing games for trophies and achievements that arent real…..BUT IS!
Concerning the first game . I played the demo and hated it. Everyone and their mom says the game is awesome . Is the actual game a better experience?
I was gonna ask that question. Same, played the demo and hated it. But i dont know if the actual game is good.
Well it's been a long time since I played the demo for the first game, but if I remember correctly it was only 1 level and it was the easiest level in the game.
It's a strategy game with multiple classes that you can use to achieve your goal. Has some rpg elements. If you like strategy games with great stories I highly suggest it.
It's also only like $30 new now, totally worth it.
how about this, i played the demo and hated it. for some reason i bought the game and loved it. everything from gameplay and story is amazing. visuals are great too. they shouldve put more on the demo because what they had there wasnt a good representation of the whole game.
Valkyria Chronicles… if that game was a woman, I'd marry her.
It's totally understandable why VC fans want the 3rd installment to be on PS3, because a lot of them probably don't have a PSP. Of course majority of them would open up their wallet and buy a PSP just for that game, but it's a bittersweet thing to do.
I hope they make a PSP bundle with VC2, though. A blue PSP with a Gallian Army motif design… I'd soo buy that.
I've always thought it was dumb to have one game on one platform, and the next on another platform. People aren't going to drop $170 for a PSP just to play one game, so it just makes people mad and doesn't accomplish anything else. And playing one game on an HDTV and the next on a tiny PSP screen is just ridiculous.
Bash the PSP all you want; but the PSP is very popular in Japan, where portable gaming has surpassed home gaming to an extent.
So, by putting this on the PSP, Sega is catering to a much larger audience in Japan with the PSP rather than the PS3.
That stated, I will pick this up for the PSP; but I would also like this to come to the PS3.
One more thing, for those of you who won't spend $170 for the PSP, Kmart has some ridiculously low prices on old bundles like the GOW bundle, etc…
Inventory will vary by location
PSP Assassin's Creed Pack $129.99 (1682 units)
PSP Daxter Pack $129.99 (124 units)
PSP Gran Turismo Pack $129.99 (1095 units)
PSP Hannah Montana Pack $129.99 (2622 units)
PSP Rockband Pack $129.99 (Inventory 394 units)
PSP God of War Pack $129.99 (72 units)
PSP Ratchet and Clank Pack $129.99 (1134 units)
For the record, the AC and GT packs have the lastest PSP model.
High five Orvisman. Everyone, if you don't have a PSP it's time to pinch those pennies and take the plunge, you're really missing out. And as mentioned above, there are some great deals to be had. Although I might still be tempted to hold out for a VC bundle, that would be slick.
As a PSP owner, I'm entirely okay with it. In fact, I'm really excited to be able to take my VC with me and play at work on my lunch break.
I think this is a part of their revamped PSP promoting. If they release a VC bundle, with a themed PSP then even I'll be regretful that I already have one. I would expect that might push at least a handful of PSP-less PS3 owners into making the jump. And then they could finally enjoy great titles like FF Crisis Core, GOW Chains of Olympus and the upcoming Ghost of Sparta, and a slew of other great games. Not to mention the ability to take all your PS1 classics on the go with you. Get the 3000 though, I still think the PSPGo is a joke (sorry Go fans)
If they do decide to make a PS3 version they should flat out deny it and keep it tight under wraps, otherwise it will just defeat the whole purpose of having announced it as a PSP exclusive in the first place.
I'll be getting this day one for my PSP. AND if they do put out a PS3 version at some point, I'll wager I'd get that too. Uncharacteristic of me as I'm pretty tight with my pennies, but I support the games I love, and I really loved Valkyria Chronicles.
I'm with the crowd that wants this game on the PS3. However, at least I DO have a PSP, so I can say that I'll be getting VC2 at some point for sure. It just won't be nearly as good as the original, I can tell you that.
I remember when VC1 came out, I was one of about 5 people on this site that BEGGED everyone to try the game and ignore the demo. All of us VC fans were so vocal that people slowly began renting the game. And once you've started playing it, YOU WILL NOT STOP. This led to VC1's sales staying strong over a long period of time, and most people attribute it's success to the emphatic promotion of it's small, determined fanbase. I felt happy to be a part of it!
And then (miracle of miracles!) they announced they'd make sequel! …..on the PSP. *sigh*
It's true, no good deed goes unpunished.

Now we have to be a vocal fanbase again and promote the PSP game…
I'm torn, because I loathe handheld gaming. However, I do recognize that many games that I love would, without a handheld market, simply not exist due to budgeting and cost. Games like the Tactics remake or even Dissidia.
Part of me wants to hold out to see if they port the game to PS3. But another part of me wants to support this game as part of a franchise I adore.
It's an annoying position to be placed in, for sure.

To those of you saying that nobody is going to buy a PSP for one game, you might be right about that, but I'm sure there are many people who wanted to get a PSP anyways, and this will just be more incentive.I got my PSP 2 months ago, almost soley for Peace Walker, then I discovered the many other great offerings on PSP, such as Resistance:Retribution, so I might pick this up if I have the extra cash when it comes out.
Side Note: Peace Walker is an epic game, if you don't have it, I would definitely recommend it, I've got 47 hours into it, and I still haven't finished all of the side missions.
Give… me… the… trophies…
I just don't understand the move, here. You created a huge following with VC, which was exclusive to the PS3. So you take it OFF that platform completely and move it somewhere else…?
I'm sorry, but as much as I like to see the PSP getting some love, there was no good reason to do this. You already had the engine in place; you could've very easily made both a PS3 and PSP version, thereby catering to the many fans of the first title and adding the possibility of catering to new fans.
I've said it with Peace Walker, and many other games. Buy a PSP ya cheapskates.
The reasoning is… Why not? The PSP is a great system, especially for Strat RPGS among other genres, Valkryia is an awesome fit for the system, as Hideo has proved changing up the platform can often lead to originality aswell.
The developers said it was a design choice, to start the next instalment on the psp and make it alittle unique from 1, I believe them.
I hear all the cries for the PS3 version, and I'd love to get one, no doubt, but this move does actually make sense to me.
They never said there won't be another VC on PS3, in fact I'd bet top dollar there will be. This iteration, however, is exclusive to the PSP and I'm sure Sony had a hand in that decision. Given the strong and loyal fanbase this game was able to build up I think this game could be a real hardware seller for the PSP, and Sony told us at E3 that they're ramping up their PSP campaigning.
Lets face it. XBOX owners are unlikely to get a PSP, those without a console are unlikely to start with a PSP, and yet a lot of PS3 owners don't have PSP's. A lot of those PS3 owners also fell in love with Valkyria Chronicles… Sony wants to sell more PSP's … the chips add up to me.
Don't worry, we'll get another VC on PS3. I'm sure of it. It's not like this is the first franchise to make an exclusive title on a portable platform. Instead of complaining that it's not on PS3, lets rejoice in that we can now play VC anywhere! That's just plain awesome.
Embrace it, support it, buy it, play it, love it, and tell your friends about it. Lets keep this franchise going strong.
