When your first effort flops, it's always difficult to convince consumers with good memories to play the second effort.

But while the original Two Worlds really wasn't very good, TopWare Interactive is confident in the upcoming sequel and asks that you not dismiss it based on the first game's failures. According to a recent PCGZine interview with TopWare community director Jake DiGennaro, we're reminded that the team has "made no effort to make excuses" about the shortcomings in Two Worlds . No, they've been well aware for a while; with a Metacritic average of only 65, it wasn't considered a must-play game. But developer Reality Pump has been toiling away to insure a much higher average review score this time around:

"We took special care in identifying the things we did well that players enjoyed, as well as the areas we needed to improve that caused the game to suffer, and are excited to bring players back into the totally revamped world of Antaloor. Two Worlds II is really the franchise's opportunity for redemption, and one we have not taken lightly."

Well, good. Two Worlds II is set to arrive for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on September 17 and those looking for an RPG with similarities to other popular franchises like Fable and Oblivion should definitely consider a purchase. Everyone deserves a second chance, right?

I played the first one on the 360 and it was dreadful. I'll wait for some reviews and such a bit longer before I try the sequel. It's good to see they've at least acknowledged the problems so hopefully that will help improve the game. The first one looked promising (until I played it) so hopefully this one will deliver where the first failed.

I was hoping someone around here had played it. I'm only going by reviews and hearsay; what exactly was wrong with it? I heard it was a gameplay issue.

A minor issue was the real lack of character customization. They promised more than they offered. Not a big deal, but still an annoyance.

Other issues was really goofy camera angles and control issues. At times it was really difficult to see where you were on the screen. When you could see yourself, the controls weren't all that friendly to you. Throw in a number of glitches (I can't remember them all sadly) and you get a game that, while broken, is playable if you have patience.

The PC version received a fair amount of patches if I remember but I don't believe the 360 got many, if any.

Agreed and from what I remember of my playtime, along with what SirLoin said, the colors seemed washed out. The frame rate (again, if I remember correctly) was awful as well.

I think I'll give them a second chance and see if they can live up to their word. They do admit their first game was a pile, after all.

Omfg… I tried the demo on 360 and it was so freaking awful. Character animation was choppy, game play was weak, and graphics looked amateurish at best.

I really wanted the game to be fun and really tried to give it a chance, but I just could not get past how awful the experience was.

I have to admit that I didn't hate the first one as much as everyone else. There were elements that drove me nuts (like "accidentally" wearing a helmet that wouldn't allow me to swim, you literally had to change equipment just to go in the water). But for the most part I enjoyed the good parts. There were a ton of poor design choices that made it obvious why it was universally disliked. At the time I was just finished oblivion and was looking for another game in that genre. This was the closest I found. So I am actually excited for part 2.
Now if someone could just make a new Champions or Baulders Gate game….

I never played the first one but I have high hopes for this one simply because I absolutely love rpgs. However I have a backlog of games and will have to wait a little while for this.

Doesn't really bother me tho, because after all I've heard from the first one I would have been waiting for reviews on this anyway.

Hopefully the reviews are good. Ben any idea if you guys will be able to review this one?

It was better on the PC than the 360.

Some great ideas bogged down by performance and technical issues, like dumb AI and skills not working.

I think the sequel with be a lot better.

Didn't know the first one existed but I can always go for some Oblivion style action. Still have to finish that game too.

The first definitely came across as an Oblivion wannabe but it had a very good concept. If they implement it properly in the second one I'll definitely pick it up.

Reviews are important to me when it comes to sequels of games that were not up to snuff. If the reviews say what I want them to, then it's easier to decide whether or not it's a buy.
