During our interview with PlayStation Home director Jack Buser, we told you an announcement was on the way, but we couldn't talk about it at the time.
Well, it's here- today, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced a series of new games from Codename, an independent video game label. These titles will be exclusive to Home; the SCEA/Codename agreement will bring indie developers from all over the world together in a joint effort to create more exclusive, never-before-seen titles for Sony's ever-expanding social gaming hub. Described as "a mix of fan-favorite, die-hard experimental and undiscovered first-time developers," each game from those teams will be a "unique experience." Here are the first four games on the slate:
Dueling Gentlemen: Created by Odd Gentleman, players strategize the right moves on a giant stage in Home’s Plaza, to outsmart opponents and win this old-time battle for honor and prestige.
Minor Battle: Created by Peanut Gallery, winner of the IndieCade 2010 Audience Award, a team-based game where two teams run around a cube of four screens to beat each other in a capture-the-flag style platformer.
Super Awesome Mountain RPG: Created by Codename, a blend of tabletop board games and fantasy RPGs, where players ascend a fantastical mountain in Home’s Central Plaza using a custom animated figurine.
Cogs in 3D Multiplayer: A multiplayer version of Lazy8’s diabolically clever Steampunk-style game, this gear-based puzzler will also be a dynamic public spectacle in Home’s Central Plaza.
Said Founding Codename Partner Jesse Vigil:
"We’re thrilled to be partnering with PlayStation Home to create and develop games that step outside the parameters of traditional game development and we’re really looking forward to the creative opportunities that lie ahead. Our model of pulling together teams of developers and allowing them to make their creative dreams a reality has only one main tenet — any game created for PlayStation Home is graphically and visually entertaining to both play and watch, at the same time."
Home already boasts over 100 different games and with 14 million worldwide users sampling on a daily basis (with an average visit duration of 70 minutes), Home has become a definite "place to be." Buser spoke a bit about the aforementioned games during our interview last week but we were asked to stay quiet until today…gee, it was so hard to keep it secret for a whole five days. After all, we're just terrible at keeping secrets…
These sound great. Being that I am one that likes to have many video game experiences, am I the only one that feels a bit overwhelmed by all of the great choices we have today? Anyone else feeling like "How am I going to find the time to put in to a game and get a true experience in each of these games AND live a normal life, outside of the video game realm?" I'm not complaining. I think it's awesome but still overwhelming. Sensory overload is a good thing.
You are not alone.
Not alone bro.
This is awesome! Give me a zombie game of this sort and I'm set.
What is your avatar?
It's Planet Terror. Read the bottom of it. :p
In case anyone is wondering, Grindhouse is coming out later this year. Rumor has it all of the fake trailers will be included.

You almost had me at RPG.
I will be going to the plaza tonight to check out these new games. Home is certainly a good platform for testing anything in the entertainment industry.
I'll be there too.
Excellent news. I hope that these games and experiences lead to more. Home can be quite an innovative space, and deserves more support and credibility than it gets.
I would give Home another shot, but every time I try to, it seems to get stuck in a loop while reserving hard drive space. I guess I'm exiled. 🙁
Oh, nevermind. I just had to delete it and download it again, and it seems to be working fine.
I like how it is being used to display the talent of the studios of tomorrow. Why should the big giant people-eating companies get all the glory?
Home is reproving so much and pretty quick. I spent a couple of hours on it last night. It's so sweet. I am going to try this games out.
I will hopefully try this if Europe gets this! be really cool
Nice! These games will definitely make me go to HOME a lot more.
Free fun games!
Dueling Gentleman sounds like my Fight Club idea! Or maybe I'm reading it wrong? Can't wait to try it out.
Awesome, I look forward to trying these. I also look forward to hearing about other companies starting to do this.
amzing must try
Are there any costs associated with these games? I a presume so.
Q!
