Attention Writers: Enter Blizzard’s 2010 Global Writing Contest

It's not necessarily related to the PlayStation brand but we figure we've got some creative, intelligent readers here at PSXE who just might be interested.

If you visit Blizzard Entertainment , you'll see they've announced their Global Writing Contest, which will test your imagination and prose capability to the max. You don't need to be an accomplished or published writer to enter; you merely need to have the motivation: to enter, submit a story that carries a word range between 2,500 and 7,500 words in English, set in the Warcraft , Starcraft or Diablo settings. Your submission must be in by August 23, 2010 and if your literary creation is chosen as top dog, you will get to visit Blizzard's headquarters and meet their writers in person. You'll also get your pick of a Diablo III "OVERTHROWN" barbarian diorama or a Frostmourne sword. But if you miss out on the Grand Prize, you always have a shot at being one of the seven runners-up, all of whom will receive the Diablo Archive, Warcraft Archive, Starcraft archive and the Warcraft: War of the Ancients Archive, all of which will be signed by Chris Metzen, the cover artists, and Blizzard's writing staff.

Think you've got what it takes? Then make sure to click the link above and read up on the rules and peruse the FAQ. Good luck!

I've yet to play this Warcraft game thingy I hear so much ranting a raving about. What kinda stuff is it? Goblins and Skeletons and stuff like that? Seriously I've no idea. Off to YouTube I go to find out. I'm aware that its an MMORPG (am I missing any letters there?)

Ok so I checked and like the idea of everyone RPG'n together, even if it's for a fee. Is this what that FF game everyones waiting on is supposed to be like? I feel really clueless tonight!

Well that kind of blows, I know absolutely nothing about Warcraft, Starcraft, or Diablo. Anybody think I could fake it?

You can't fake it dude. Those games are epic PC games of yesteryear.

I did play the first Warcraft like six years before the asteroid killed the dinosaurs, and Diablo shortly thereafter. But yeah I don't know squat about them except that it shocks me how outdated World of Warcraft is and yet remains popular. Maybe my story could feature Mr. T 🙂

I can write, but I don't play any of those games, a friend of mine does and I don't think he can write.

Oh. I was interested, but then I remembered that I have only the most basic knowledge of Diablo and Starcraft and none whatsoever of Warcraft. Also, Blizzvision. The only reason I would go is if they could arrange a meeting with Kotick in order to punch him in his self-absorbed, oversized nose.

Peace.

speaking of diablo where the hell is diablo 3?
it was suppose to release last year, and we have heard nothing about it since!
jesus christ blizzard like to take their time!
by the time diablo 3 is out the game will be so outdated, that wont stop it from selling like women underwear though!

There's still no official date for the release but it's currently on track for next year. Blizzard likes to focus on one title at a time, and right now it's Starcraft 2 that comes out in 3 weeks. Everything Blizzard makes is top notch and highly successful, so all the time they take to make it is worth it in the end. Other companies would do well to follow their example in that regard.

The only problem with contests like this, is that Blizzard would become the owner to all the stories entered. They can do whatever they want with it and give you no credit or reimbursement of any kind.

These contests are just designed so companies can get tons of story ideas and plot lines with little to no cost to them.

Send in your story and you're just giving away your creative genius for a pat on the head.

You know, I hadn't even thought of that, but it's a very good point. Loss of IP for the individual. And realistically there's no way that you can prove that you are the original concept worker. Just gives me less incentive to do it.
Peace.

I don't have much knowledge of any of these… But I think I'll do some research. I already write fanfictions for fun so might as well contribute my writing toward something useful. Thanks so much for the info Ben! You're making PSXE the best website ever 😉

Blizzard would take the idea and turn it into some stupid MMORPG nonsense in order to get a few more mindless pc gamers hooked on an online fantasy land simulator.

Blizzard should just go home.

I've written a few story ideas in the past that I would like to see happen in the Diablo universe. Perhaps it's time I sit and explore those ide
