Although it was a huge announcement and actually quite shocking for anybody who knows about Valve's well-documented thoughts concerning the PlayStation brand, how many of you actually played the original Portal ?

We're guessing the answer is "not enough," which is why we've nabbed this E3 gameplay video for you, along with a few important details. Here's a brief history: the first title began as a FPS designed by students at the DigiPen Institute of Technology, who were then hired by Valve to produce a full product. It featured standard first-person movement but it didn't really play like any other FPS; there was an emphasis on unique mechanics and puzzle-solving via "portals." The portals, which you could place with your handy tool, would allow you to leap all over the place and strategically bypass certain areas, and you would often be assisted by the computer AI known as GLaDOS. Portal 2 is a direct sequel; although it takes place some time after the original quest, you still play as the same main character.

Fans of the first game will quickly praise its originality and engaging style, and we're all hoping for an even more fulfilling experience the second time 'round. Valve even said the PlayStation 3 version would be the "best version available," which is great news for PS3 owners. So when Portal 2 launches later this year, you should definitely consider a purchase.

I don't like the creator very much…I think you can take your game and shove it!! "my opinion"

I have a feeling many ps3 owners have opinions like ganwars. For those people… Give it a chance. The first was very rewarding and unique. It's something to keep an eye on. If they DO make it good on the PS3 anyone who hasn't played the first should give it a shot.

Gabe is a complete tool, but Portal is fun as balls. I can only assume Portal 2 will be the same.

I'm pretty sure he said it would be the "best version available on console" (maybe 'any console' don't completely remember.)

But yeah, I've been playing portal one in segments, got it for free when steam had the deal for it, definitely been fun so far and hopefully I'll finish it before the second (which is probably far off I'm guessing so I shouldn't have a prob)

I didn't care much for the first Portal, most likely going to feel the same way about the second one.

I'm happy for the PS3 owners that wanted it, but I'll be passing as well. Not because of personal feelings about GN or Valve, but because I don't care. It could be interesting to follow how Steam works on PS3 (through the news here) though.

Hmmmmm…i gave away my copy of the Orange Box before i played Portal. I was under the impression it was only online so i never gave it a try.

Probably should have tried it at least. >_<

Looks interesting. I'll keep my eye on this one leading up to it's release. With all the other AAA title on my hit list though this one might not make it through the purchasing portal.
*pun intended*

Portal was AMAZING. It gave me enjoyable puzzles that left me feeling oh so smart and satisfied once I figured them out, many of them required quick thinking and timing. I thought the boss battle (and only battle) could use some work and indeed the first one was much too short. I'm not excited that it will go to the PS3, Ill probably play it on PC unless PS3 version gets extras and DLC.

As long as it's not a premium price tag, I'll grab it. No way in hell will I consider it if the forecast is showing more than 30 bucks!

WTF is Portal?…lol, but seriously this game caught me off guard and not in a good way. I will be passing on this. Never knew they hated teh PS brand and why should PS3 owners care if Valve hates PS?…you don't own Playstation so why do you feel it's a reason to not buy the game unless you a honestly just uninterested like myself. Only talking to those with animosity towards Valve.

You guys are missing out, Portal 2 is going to be a really fun game, especially on the PS3. The first was intuitive, creative, ORIGINAL. If it isn't your cup of tea thats fine, but you are missing out if you don't give it a chance.

Portal 2 will make the PS3 the most open console, why? Because of Steam integration.

MS wouldn't let him bring Steam to the Xbox.

More open then MS it seems.

If you haven't played it, Portal was absolutely hilarious.

"The cake is a lie" lmao.

I didn't play if for more than a few minutes, my friend showed it to me on his 360. I never saw the PS3 version.

I'm wondering what online play this game has.

I would love to play cross platform games with my 360 friends, too bad there aren't any of those.

It would be nice if MS would allow others to play cross-platform.

Portal rocked, and rolled, and threw you 100 feet through the air if you were good enough. I liked zapping portals under the turrets and dropping them out of walls, or putting them into a permanent jumping state. Good times. I probably won't get this one though unless it too is in a compilation of some form, or it has the original bundled with it.
Peace.

Portal was a great game. It was short because it was a student endorsed product from students at Digipen. It's worth a try for anyone who didn't play it. I imagine the second one is going to much longer and more involved.

Yes, I love it, got the first Portal for free with the steam thing, I finished it the same day(ok, in less than 24 hours, with that I mean, I started at like 22:00 and was finished at around 3-4 AM, but hey I enjoyed the heck out of it).
It has a very awesome sense of humor and the puzzles are great, both challenging and innovative.
I'm already enjoying Portal 2 from the things I've seen.

I didn't even realize it was a shooter, I thought it was a puzzle game of some sort. I never played the original because the Orange Box was full of technical problems, and after watching a few videos of whatever game it was that everybody was raving about, it didn't look interesting to me.

I guess the first one was 2-3 hours long? They better increase that DRAMATICALLY if they want $60 for it. I'll definitely be reading the reviews for this before deciding if I'll get it. Looks pretty interesting from what little I've seen.

Portal was great…granted it came with the orange box so it was really only about $10 per game, but I loved it.

Great puzzles, great secret areas, and a good little story. And definitely one of the most creative and original games.

One of the things that makes this game so special though is the 2nd greatest inanimate object ever in a video game – the WEIGHTED COMPANION CUBE! If you didn't struggle (and maybe shed a little tear) with the difficult situation GLaDOS puts you in at the end of this game….well then, you probably won't buy Portal 2.

BTW – the #1 Greatest inanimate object in a video game belongs to the cardboard box from the Metal Gear series…hahah.

I wonder if people will have a different opinion of Portal 2 when they actually have to pay $60 for it. The first was great, but it was short. Thankfully it came with a ton of other games that made it worthwhile to buy. As a standalone I fear we're in for a rip off.

I thought it will be a long game, but maybe it wont be. we'll see. i reckon it will be long enough but if it isn't, i'll wait till the price drops. i didn't think Mirror's Edge deserved £40 so i didn't pay that. i paid £18. nice.
