Pandemic may be through, but that doesn't mean their Mercenaries series won't carry on.
EA vice president of corporate communications, Jeff Brown, had stressed that the "Pandemic brand would live on" within the publisher, which is why we'll soon see The Saboteur , Pandemic's latest – and last – project. And now, according to GameSpot , EA has let the name "Mercs, Inc." slip, along with a leaked trailer that is no longer viewable by the public. EA senior VP and group manager Nick Earl said, "a core creative team is forging new ground and conceptualizing new ideas" for the franchise in question. The video you can't see now, as found early by Superannuation, featured both competitive and cooperative multiplayer action, a bunch of never-before-seen characters, and a whole lot of crazy action (as one might expect). Oddly enough, the end of the video says the project had been canceled but evidently, that's not the case and we expect to hear something official on "Mercs, Inc." some time soon. This is a series that was always entertaining if not extremely well polished, and we all know it has a boatload of potential.
As for The Saboteur , that's just one big question mark for us. It's one of those titles that could take everyone by surprise with its quality and playability but on the other hand… Eh, why be negative?
Enjoyed the first mercinaries game on ps2 but the second game just got really boring after a while. Co-op would probably fix that.
Mercs 2 did have online multiplayer but to be perfectly honest it sucked. I agree though, I liked the first much more for some reason. Maybe it was because of the "Deck of Cards" targets.
The multiplayer for Mercs 2 rarely even worked at all. It would usually not connect to other people's games. It looks like Just Cause 2 is going to be what Mercs 2 should have been.
Huh? My Mercs2 co-op worked just fine. Not sure what you're going on about.
what I mean is some split screen action. Online campain co-op is not very fun no matter what the game
Well, when I tried to connect to others it would rarely go through and when it did, it was laggy as hell. I've never ever had a problem with any other game's multiplayer so I can't blame my own connection.
never worked for me.
except this one time i was doing the wench training mission trying to get the 1 billion dollar baby trophy.
than this wanker joined my game, hopped into the other chopper and kept running into me.
than this other time i was trying to capture HVTs for the trophy so this wanker joins my game and kills my targets.
another reason why i dont play online.
99.9999999999% of players are 10 year old brats there just to piss the sh*t out of you.
Wow ok. I didn't experience anything like what you guys are describing so I had no idea. I only ever found it annoying when people would join my game and not have a headset to communicate. Having the option to boot them from your game was a nice feature though 😉 Other than that I helped a number of people get their online trophies with this game and never experienced any connection problems. Although being buggy as hell, I guess I'm not surprised.
If they're going to keep making all the Pandemic games….why did they even close Pandemic…sigh. All they need to do, is get all the Pandemic members together, make Star Wars Battlefront 3, and they'll sell millions.
this man speaks the truth, SW:BF3 would be good, very good
Who cares. The Mercs games are buggy, incomplete messes. Star Wars: Battlefront is all I care about from them.
Mercs, inc? Sounds like an RTS or something. Why no Mercs 3?
Mercs2 was a great old time. The lines were funny and the action was silly. Really liked how the home base reflected my stock and cash. Was pretty upset to hear there won't be a Mercs3 although maybe Mercs Inc will be just as good. I guess it'll be a wait and see for me.
i loved Mercs two. thought it was everything that GTA4 lacked… colour, humour and gameplay. The helicopters were way better too.
Only thing i didnt like was that after i finished the game..i found out that to get platinum trophy you had to save all the vips. Dont have time to replay with college and the world of new games piling up to be played.
Saving all the HVTs was an exercise in frustration but I found it quite satisfying when done. Just turn off auto-save or you're bound to get screwed. Grenades, rocket launchers and oil tanks are the biggest enemies in these missions.
take mercenaries 2, polish it too a tee and you have one kick a$$ action open world game.
nothing is more satisfying than sprinting away from a nuclear bomb dropped onto your mansion.
i think i threw up in yet, o wait im not in jet im on couch.
M2 was another game I liked.
But I didn't get much playtime with it due to one of my used game shopping sprees at that time.
I think I bought about 15/20 games & there was a couple in that bundle that I wanted to play even more than M2, so I only sampled the beginning of it.
I do need to finish this one too, but so many games….so little time.*sigh*
Anything Mercs as long as Mattias is back! Ya gotta love the guys "shoot now, and don't ask questions later" attitude!
p.s.
"Happy Thanksgiving World!"*
*(translation): "Sleep thee well child, for there will be bountiful sales the morning after…"
mercenaries 2 was fun for about 5 days. I'll definitely be renting "Mercs, Inc." before i buy. wont get burned twice.
